Ooo me likey this video. Rock on Yoshiki. He had been playing for hours before this. I am suprised he had the stamina to do any of this. Go Yoshiki Go. Thanks for uping it.
most talented drumer and piano player of all time, period. poeple should do some research on him frist before you start talking crap about him, you dont even know how Xjapan, especially Yoshiki changed the whole view of Japanese music, they were the ones who bought " Visual Rock " to Japan.
Yoshiki may not be the best drummer , i agree; but hes certainly stylish, original and passionate when hitting drums, and what makes him so great is to be a piano virtuoso and also one of the best composers that have ever existed.
he always does his best in all his shows, i saw him at AX the other day and he was just insane, at the end of the set he took the bass players guitar and smashed his drum set with it, haha it was badass
I'm a huge fan of X, but you really make a lot of sense and know how to respect other people's taste, way more better than mass out there who can only throw out some shitty curse, rock community really needs more guys like you.
I may not know music or drummers butI know what I like, he puts on one hell of an exciting show, amazing & wonderful. Racial slurs, totally inapporpriate, show low class thinking. Even some of Yoshikis fans R over the top. Every 1 has the right 2 their own opinion, unfortunatley no matter how low class their vocabulary. It is a sign of low intelligence, so low class to resort to racial slurs, insults & profanity. The world won't end because Yoshiki is not perfect.
let me just say his neck is broken.. he has a neck brace on.. and he's still playing.. that shows dedication, talent and hardwork..if you can't appreciate him then you're just a hater who hates on everyone... which is gay.. this isn't the MOST IMPRESSIVE SOLO IN THE WORLD..but his neck is BROKEN! imagine the things he can do without a broken neck.. i also heard that's not the only part of his body that was broken..
What he's ACTUALLY doing is mimicing the orchestral parts for the song, which he WROTE himself. 80% of the parts of all X Japan songs were written BY Yoshiki.
In my opinion, His technique is simple, its only double bass and single stroke most of the time, but he is awesome!! because he puts some of his emotion and put all of his strength into it.
i beleive that every person who plays drums or knows about drums doesnt agree that this guy is good. and people who does like him dont say any kind of argument proving them wrong...they just get pissed and tell them to die :)
i think the main reason people think this is boring is because they're looking at it in the context of drumming today. i'm sure this was very impressive when it debuted in the mid 90s. but the fact is drummers now a days can out-shred the pants off this guy. interesting video tho
I just watched this video again to see if I was missing something and just based on this video, I am not impressed and not convinced that this guy is remotely close to being the greatest drummer in history.
well 2 types of people dont understand yoshiki's music 1) Shallow people who keep criticising his drumming when they cant even play drums or do much better than yoshiki 2) People who dont like the fact that he is one of the greatest drummer just because they think other drummers like Buddy Rich is better. Styles cant be compared =)
They are back together and yoshiki has a new website up but he only mentioned the eastern US and a lot of Asia. Shame really, but that doesn't mean those plans won't change. Keep hoping.
I would have to agree with bubblegum8 on this one. While his tempo wasn't always exactly on the numbers, he's a damn sight better than some other drummers I've heard.
hey what's his kit, I have saved 1500 dollars to buy a new kit (made the mistake of buying my first drum kit a grescht) and I like the sound of this drum set, also if any of you know can you tell me the drum set iron maiden's drummer uses
i know soloing isnt yoshiki's thing, but listen to this you haters. type top 10 best drummers- on google and then tell me who's the guy on number one. thats right- yoshiki hayashi. and then dont listen to his solo's but search some X japan. you will understand why.
yo guys, I'm talking about THIS video, and THIS solo... don't tell me that this solo is incredible. don't you know something about irony cause I know yoshiki and respect him that's why I've put a ;) after my comment. Humor that's what it was.... anyway
personnaly I dont have anything bad to say about this solo, it just wasnt fantastic. But of course its well done if he really have a broken neck and wrists. aKnot said:"4. If you don't like it, shut up. Plain and simple. Don't tell it to us but tell it to him in person if you want." Ppl can say whatever they want about it, this site is made for commenting/discussing about vids, and we lives in free countries.
Lame entrance and ending? I'm not a fan of classical music and I dont know about classical music nowadays much, but Yoshiki is a friggin new Beethoven. Hi's classical songs are absolutley brilliant and I love them even more than his drumming skills. He is and will be a legend.
ok if any of you that downed this drum solo, you all should get ur own drum kit, record your solo, and if its better than this, then you can talk. i guarentee none of you can match to him. its a good solo. now if youre better prove it. if youre not shut the fuck up
omg just enjoy the music geez lmao all these people are trying to be philosophers about music, just fucking enjoy it, when you look way to much into it you are ruining for yourself, music is here for us to enjoy and to share. hes a drummer hemakes music, people love it people hate it, so what just enjoy it or move on
Whats with the dramatic death in the end ? I know double bass takes endurance, but the length and speed he went should only send inexperienced beginners into an angonzing death in a semi-fetal position on top of the snare drum.
i thtink the neckbrace was their to make sure he didnt hurt himself anymore, he was wearing it at the last live, nd i thinkthis is Dahlia tour? yoshiki is amazing, altho the Last Live performance was better b/c of sound quality improvements along with better camera's.
Hey! If memory serves me correct, it was composed by Yoshiki himself and it features in their song "Say anything". Hope that this is useful 17 years in the future :)
Look t how hard he's playing that'ed be pretty hard... and he's said before to get those crystal drums to make sound you have to play hard so that's double hard.
THE SOLO WAS LIKE 2 MINUTES!!! I heard so much about this guy on RUclips I was expecting the solo of the century, but all this is, is a 2 minute solo that doesnt even compare to someone like Lee from Motley, Mackintosh from Dragonforce or Larkin from Godsmack...hell, Sully Erna's solo is better.
He just went *dugga dugga dugga dugga* on the bass drum the whole time and did some tom fills doing the same thing, all while looking like a caged animal that's about to cry. He needs to concentrate on the music and less on the cheesy theatrics. Check out Akira Jimbo if you want a good asian drummer.
He looks like he broke his neck head banging...but I enjoyed the emotion in his playing...even though it wasn't that talented...he showed what he plays drums for...
come on guys. keep all the racism shit out of this place. im no asian but its a very beautiful orchestra piece which he was playing to. and plus, he was FEELING it. not many of us drummers can have that.
I'm sure if I gave you all your life, you couldn't piece together a proper sentence. But regardless.. If you'd like to hear him banging 'randomly' on a piano, listen to his solo in Art of Life.
Well, his drumming has no creativity. His solo starts and ends with the same 32th note(slow 32th note). But I have to say that the presentation and the acting part was the best that I saw.He is not much of a drummer but his show has something artistic.
wow. weirdly awesome, must track somemore of from this drummer Yoshiki. You should check out Derek Roddy on here, who has varying styles from groove to metal. Cool Video...
i agree that he's not a good at solo drum but hell sho give the f*ck about drum solo it doesn't prove anything, i think he's the best musician and drummer ever i never seen anyone put and give so much power into it performance like he does.
exactly. I don't see him biting the stick and swinging his head to his the cymbals and toms. Yoshiki may be a good drummer, he could just be bad at soloing. Besides, Virgil Donati shits on all drummers, especially in soloing.
@FearsBecomePhobias yes ill agree to that but assuming that just cause he sucks at improv doesnt make him a worse drummer than others but alot of his songs have really good drumming and i think that to say that since he sucks at improve makes him less of a drummer is not true like the vanishing vision album has some really good drum parts
@maluse227 by commenting back, i don't mean to start a useless internet fight with you, but i do disagree. honestly, i do crazier drumming than in this video for my warm-up. obviously he's good, but compare him to guys like Marco Minneman, Benny Greb, Jojo Mayer, Tim Alexander, and Nick Pierce. this solo is (for the majority of the video) theatrics put to moody classical music. the rest is basically simplistic double bass with single strokes over it. definitely not the craziest thing i've seen
Maybe he didnt have his green tea and riceball that day? lol ive been played for about a monthand i can randomly hit shit and double bass like that for 20 mins and not be that tired, tired yes but not die over the drums
hehe ill never play shit like that but i can affirm you that i can play things like that, because this timing is not as hard as it seems to be... its just every 16th in the tact not more... this video is just planless drumming on a doubelbass kit
Well, he has good double kick stamina, but this clip can't be representative of his total skills - this is just a good old thrash out on the drumkit. Aside from the double kickness (which I can't do, no double kick pedal... yet), he did nothing I can't do, and I'm not an amaaaaaazing drummer (though I am good, not boasting or anything, I have been playing for 8 years!) Not digging the shiny trousers though, urgh.
This page is meant for ppl to comment and discuss about videos. And slrchs07 comes up with lots of reasons why he didnt like it here, so Nuit, shut up yourself, you have to accept that ppl have different meanings than yourself
This drum solo is about a memory and emotional connection. The classical music played was a favorite of his late father and it is in his dream of being a drummer like his son, that's part of why his mother supported him!He is a great drummer Art of Life is masterpiece!Sorry your too dumb to see it!
1)First off, I have heard of this Yoshiki person before, but I've never heard that he was the greatest drummer ever. Not that I'm trying to strip him of the title or anything, I just haven't heard enough about him to warrant his "big deal" status according to some of the people here.2)Second, this solo is nothing special. The man may be a truly fantastic drummer, and he might have a broken neck and broken wrists and a head cold, but that doesn't change the fact that this solo is nothing special.
Yoshiki of X Japan is more than just a drummer he was the creator of an entire genre of unique rock that is particular to Japan. He created a social movement of people who are different! His courage has others through difficulties! The solo is art and expression, it's not about perfection, it's about emotions and connections!
He has severe asthma, they keep oxygen around in case he collapses,he has had herniated disks in his spine, vertebrae broken and fused in his neck, shoulder, and arm nerve damage, chronic tendonitis and arthritis in his hands, fingers and wrists.Even with this and multiple opinions of medical specialists that going back on stage would be suicide,he still continues to create and play!He was small, frail and blue due to extreme lack of oxygen at birth. He wasn't supposed to survive his birth or after birth! His mother revealed this in We Are X!You tell me he isn't phenomenal! He might not be the best but he is kind in a world of snobbish fake celebrities who are not really talented or have real meaning!I would watch a TV show about him over the Kardashians any day!
whats up with the tight pants, that wasnt a very good solo, alot better than a bunch of other crap on here. Kool kit i like the sound, he isnt very fast at all, but hes solid !
I fully agree with slrchs07 here.I dont think this was impressive at all either. And aying his rolls is 50 times faster that the second fastest drummer's, is just completely stupid.
how's that relevant in this line of questioning?...:S he said "name me another drummer who can play piano, violin, guitar among many other instruments "...not a a famous one...
hahaha I have been playing for 3 years only and I play better than him, also I don't know about the neck problem but I have played better solos once with my right hand bleeding through a cut on a finger because of excessive drumming for one day which is harder cause the pain is strong and when you see a bit blood spourting on the snare it really can disconcentrate you.
It's a pretty simple drum solo, but his energy is what makes it beautiful.
Ooo me likey this video. Rock on Yoshiki. He had been playing for hours before this. I am suprised he had the stamina to do any of this. Go Yoshiki Go. Thanks for uping it.

that's some emotional drum solo
Yoshiki may not be the best drummer , i agree; but hes certainly stylish, original and passionate when hitting drums, and what makes him so great is to be a piano virtuoso and also one of the best composers that have ever existed.
Just banging around on the drums and keeping a boring bass drum pattern in a so called live performance thats so hyped up, just kills everything.

Poor guy, had to end his carrier at such a young age! Give him credits for just do this! With a neck problem!, thats strong!
In 2022 Yoshiki is still touring and doing projects, Corona has slowed his progress some!
who said yoshiki is the best drummer?well he's not even close 2 some great drummers...maybe he's the 7. best drummer
as long as Yoshiki does in this solo? Do you really mean that is a problem??

Playing drums with a broken neck isn't too difficult. It's one thing for a broken arm or leg, but another for a broken neck.
To all of you who think that this solo sucks..
I would like to see YOU play a solo with your neck injured!!!

search for peter criss drum solo, cobo hall 76.
thats the best drum solo ever.
