    Wow, I have to agree with everyone who is impressed with your van layout. I am just starting mine next week and for sure I want the dinette in the back with the lowered bed. I honestly could not figure out how to have the following: dinette, full size bed, shower/toilet along with all the rest of the necessary stuff. I will combine the toilet/shower but other than that, you helped me solve my dinette/full bed problem. Thanks, you guys are awesome. Stay happy, stay safe.

    Hi from the UK. Lovely van. Great idea the separate shower. How you use it works well. I think some people forget the whole point of living vans is to enjoy life not to have the most fancy set up. Nit -picking about having to spend a few seconds removing stored gear totally misses the genius in this solution . Nicely done guys. Happy travels. John

    Loved the van. The only thing I would change is to have the toilet and shower in one which would free up the other area for a permanent storage. I couldn't be taking stuff in and out of the shower every time I needed to use it.

    • @nomadicmillennials4577
      @nomadicmillennials4577  5 лет назад +24

      Yeah we thought about that but it literally only takes us 1 minute to take stuff out and 1 minute to put stuff back in and we have more room to shower since we don't have a toilet in there. Also we don't like the idea of having our toilet in the shower.

      @@nomadicmillennials4577 I have a Promaster 2500 that's not built out yet and I get 22 mpg - how are you getting 20 mpg with all that weight and that size vehicle? Have you weighed the van since it's been built out?
      In regard to the shower, I would think that moving all that stuff would get old quick. You have a bed platform so you don't have to convert the bed... but yet you have to pull everything in and out of the shower on a regular basis? Glad that works for you - I'm too lazy and that wouldn't work for me. :) Great build though - happy trails.

      @nomadicmillennials4577  5 лет назад +5

      @@chasincloud957 The best we can get is 20 mpg but that's not the average. When we took a trip to California we averaged at about 12 mpg when driving on lots of hills. We aren't sure what mpg we have been getting on average recently but we have been driving on pretty flat roads in Arizona so we're guessing it's probably better than 12. No we haven't weighed our van after the build.
      Thanks, good luck on your build!

      Mary Poppins I lived with a wet bath for a year and it’s HORRIBLE! you have to dry down the walls after every shower just so you can use the toilet and not get your shirt soaked by touching the walls. And you have to dry down the shower curtain and the floors. Takes way longer than moving their storage in and out. And then you have to put a rug on the floor to cover the drain so if someone goes in there with shoes on, they don’t mess up the drain connection. I guess you still have to dry down the area to put the storage back in there to prevent mold on your stuff. I plan to have a separate shower but I’m such a minimalist that I won’t need all that extra stuff. But yea, a wet bath is a real pain in the arse. Lol

      today agree you have the time to do this. BTW one of the top five van builds I have watched. My only question I have is>>>>>How do you run the AC unit during the day when the bed is in the up position. By the way love that bed how it gives you the use of that table during the day.@@nomadicmillennials4577

      Seriously, you guys totally nailed the layout of your van. Everything is fluid and geared at making van life doable. The bed design fixes the issue of always having to tear down seating areas to make less-than-comfortable sleeping arrangements. The whole wet shower thing isn’t for me, but your design took care of that too. Really well done

    The idea of the bed lift is great, gives you a huge space to open up the area to work at without getting rid of too much storage. @@laur-unstagenameactuallyca1587 people are totally free to do as they please, but cluttered and over designed RV's have been around forever. I'd say this van is claustrophobic and over designed as well. Comfy because of the convenience and familiarity with "normal" houses that it brings
      The major benefit of van dwelling is the minimalist simplicity. Getting AWAY from the rat race and "thingisms". If you still need all that to be comfy, then I'd argue you're passing on the biggest advantage of van life
      Once again, you're free to do as you please. Nothing I say is meant to be taken as anything but my own opinion on the matter. But those are my thoughts. I'll always respect a build that does a lot with a little more than I will with a build that looks like a money pit designed to heavily emulate the very thing van dwelling is supposed to leave behind

    This is the best use of space I've seen in a van conversion. If I had to change anything in your van it would be the countertop because as you said it is too heavy and I would switch how you have the T.V mounted. You currently have the T.V mounted to the interior right of your closet,I would mount it to the interior left and flip the T.V around bringing it closer to the couch area and it would be in a better viewing position for the kitchen. Those are just nitpicky things,brilliant build.

    I like the bed lift system. Curious how much that bad boy weighs and can you sit fully upright.🤔 I like that you have a full bath set up but agree with another. I would rather the combo of the shower/toilet leaving that whole other space for storage. I would be to lazy/dread moving all that stuff out. Maybe that wouldn't be to crazy of a conversion for you to put the toilet on a slider in shower when moving all that stuff "gets old". I'm not a huge cook but of all the hundreds of conversions I have watched in the last year I find myself thinking 🤔 do people really use all those spices... Nice build thanks for the tour.

    Best van lay out I've come across. This is similar to how I would like to do it. I like the fact that you can move from the cab to the back and didn't box it in. It looks like you also have visibility from the cab to the rear windows, another plus. The outdoor shower seems to be overlooked by some commentators. The bed design is a first, you could do a video on it alone, showing the build. specs and product info on it. Some of the comments raise the issue of weight. I didn't see near the weight here I have thought to address watching many other van builds. Your use of lumber is not extreme from what I see. To the contrary it is lighter than most I see on here. The design is very well thought out and quite functional, many will follow your lead for sure. You guys are just so cool!

    Holy shit ... your van is epic. You have really designed such a practical, liveable space that looks fabulous too. You have coordinated your interior colours and surfaces thoughtfully with the marble-look quartz being a standout. Did you counter balance the vehicle by putting the water tank on the opposite side ? ... and please excuse the truly awful pun !
    I have trawled You Tube for years watching the vanlife movement grow in momentum ( and what a different mindset and level of sophistication in a typical vanlifer conversion like yours compared to the archetypical "RV" types and their pre-brought generic and usually really fugly vans. They usually can't get their heads around basic sustainable solutions like naturesheads composting toilets. The horror ! BTW Have you noticed the women also tend to infantilise toilet usage, describing the activity as "going potty ". FFS. It's so irritating ). You guys are light years ahead in innovative ideas and design execution. The layout is brilliant and including a separate indoor shower option as well as a private and proper toilet is truly incredible. Well done ... you should be really proud of your van conversion.

    This is beautifully done and you seem like a great pair. I subscribed to your channel to watch you guys in action.
    A couple things I have noticed here is 1 how much kitchen gadgetry you have. That coffeemaker thing looks like a real pain. You can do almost anything you want with a cookpot, skillet, saucepan and that burner...get a French press or Keurig for your coffee and free up that whole surface. The mic/conv oven is a great time to option though. 2 everyone is weighing in on your bathroom and I say if it's working for you then it's working. I have seen the all in one bathroom with a smaller toilet to stay in there mostly but can be removed for showers. Then you could make that room a little bigger for all bathroom needs (your whole shower plus about half the toilet space) and use the rest of that square footage for built in drawers or shelves not related to the bathroom.

    Wow, this is an incredible build, definitely ranks up there with some of the best self conversions I've ever seen and I've seen a lot! The build quality is top notch and clean. I like the modern and white interior. So many things to like, Love the bed over living room with happi-jacks. A lot of times the use of this system doesn't look planned out enough, not here. Dry bath, what!? Didn't think there was enough room for this in this sized van! So few van conversions have AC or bathrooms, I couldn't live without these two things. I love the idea of the 24 volt system, I hope I get to watch a video on this soon. I think the only things I can say I'm not that crazy about is the amount of stuff you have to move to take a shower, that would get old for me quick. Also the water fill on the exterior, move that inside for safety. Windows are great for light but bad for heating/cooling. Windows also allow thieves to enter your beautiful home with as much as a brick. Where do you keep tools and spare parts for repairs on the road? This is a unique build! Curious how long it took to convert? Thanks for sharing!

    • @nomadicmillennials4577
      @nomadicmillennials4577  5 лет назад +7

      Thank you for your thoughtful feedback! We only move things in and out of the shower every other day and it only takes 1 minute, that's why we decided to do that plus we can have a big area to shower. So it's not a big deal for us but we can understand why some people wouldn't want to do that.
      The water fill up is locked with a key on the outside, so it is secure. And it wouldn't be easy for us to fill up our tank on the inside.
      As for the windows, you're right it's bad for heating and cooling, but most of our windows have a metal divider where they open, so if someone wanted to brake a window to get in they would have a really small gap to do so. And we can always leave the top bed half way down to act as a barrier.
      The van took a year to build from concept to finish, but there was a lot of setbacks where the van was just sitting there with no work being done. So we estimate the actual build time was around 5-6 months. Thanks again for your comment!

    Super awesome!! Seriously kick-ass!! If I Can make one small suggestion it's to use an external microphone (with wind muff) when filming and to level out the volume so it's consistent throughout the video. I still really REALLY enjoyed watching and I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining but it was pretty challenging to hear you because the volume kept dropping out then randomly going up so it was super quiet or too loud. No one expects perfection here of course haha just sharing a friendly tip as you grow your channel. Again your van is amazing, enjoy it! :)

      @nomadicmillennials4577  5 лет назад

      You are right it does seem like a lot, thinking about it more we think It's more like 1000 to 2000 pounds that we added since the heavier things are: 40 gallon tank(full is 320lb), two 24v batteries(242lb), quartz counter top(about 200lb). Plus everything else obviously adds up. The best MPG we had is 20 but obviously it's a lot lower with hills. Thanks for your support!

      We decided to do our shower separate so that we can use it for storage. And you are right, since our toilet is a composting toilet it needs to be dry. Also, since the toilet has a fan to suck up surrounding air for venting and to keep the solid waste dry, we didn't want to risk having humidity problems. Thanks for your comment!

      I really like your permanent bed-lift and couch layout!
      After you use the shower, do you dry out the shower room before you put things back in storage in the shower room?
      Would it be possible to dry out the shower room quickly with a sponge and a small ventilating fan?
      Would it eventually be possible to simply move the "Nature's Head" composting toilet out of a "Wet-shower" room, or is it too heavy or complicated to choose that as an option?
      I imagine you have to dry out the shower room in any case, whether you choose to have a separate shower for storage, or if you had a typical "Wet-bath" shower-toilet combination...

    • @nomadicmillennials4577
      @nomadicmillennials4577  5 лет назад

      @@Michou007 Thank you! Yes we do quickly dry the shower pan before putting things back in the shower. It is possible to take the nature's head out to take a shower, we have seen some other people that do this. But we decided on having the toilet separate since we thought it was the least complicated and best option for what we wanted. But of course other options might work better for some people.

    • @nomadicmillennials4577
      @nomadicmillennials4577  5 лет назад +7

      That’s not the reason we chose our name. We felt like a majority of people living a nomadic lifestyle are an older generation (except for some of the people you see on RUclips). And we wanted to encourage our generation to try out the nomadic lifestyle instead of thinking it’s only for retired people.
      We feel like nomadic is a word commonly used in people’s names that are living this lifestyle so does that mean they all copied the name? And Millennials is the name of our generation so does that mean we are copying someone by using that in our name? Also, minimal millennials changed their name so that seems irrelevant.
