    When you consider the minimum wage, the price gap actually becomes even more ridiculous. For that BMW for example, a Turkish person has to save for over 100 months of minimum wage salary without spending anything. In UK it would be about 10 months. So the price isn't 4 times more in Turkey, actually its 10 times more.

    I like these price comparisons. I used to live in Thailand and cars there are similar price to Turkey, but insurance is very cheap and the cost of repairs and servicing is literally a tenth of the UK price. Also depreciation is much less in Thailand. So simple comparisons on just the purchase price do not accurately reflect the actual cost of ownership very well. Having said that, UK and US are the cheapest places in the world for cars.

      I dont think any country beats car prices when it comes to car prices, there is 200-225%+ tax on cars which is unheard of in any decent country , especially in comparison to wages... the cheapest cars ( tofas sahin, and tofas dogan) from 1990s ( its miracle that those are still in one piece ) can cost like 20-30 months of basic wage. As far as brand new cars dont think there is anything less than 150k in liras, which is 5-6 years worth of basic wage.

    • @superioritymelee
      @superioritymelee 3 года назад +2

      Even the cheapest costs more than $2000 if it is still working. Hell, 25 year old cars are sold for like $5000 or so, lemme remind you that I'm talking about cars that you could get for free in Europe or US or no more than $500.

      I am an American living in CA and will retire in Turkiye. Married a Turk. Yes, you can bring your car over with no tax. You get a blue license plate indicating a foreign registered car. However, only non-Turks can drive it and you can only sell to non-turkish citizens. However, you can eventually register it and pay the large tax bill and this opens the car to all.

    Its a mix of new car tax and luxury tax, Failing Turkish lira against USD and Euro, rampant inflation and the fact that against the UK, they sell more new cars in one month than turkey does in a whole year.
    A 2015 golf bought new for 88,000tl but now 6 years old and100,000km is now worth 200,000tl now! However that may sound great, but to replace it with a new 2021 model of the same spec, it will cost 480,000tl.

I think cars in the UK, especially second hand, are cheap than most of the rest of Europe! One thing though, that BMW Z3 was actually a 2000 model. The ‘W’ in the registration being the year of registration signifier, W was from 1/3/2000 to 31/8/2000. The (7)59 is just part of the number plate, an easy mistake to make if you’re not used to the registration system. It was only on 1/9/2001 that the signifier became numbers, starting with ‘51’

      Is that based on the retail price from abroad or the price Turkey asks? In other words, if you would import a car from the UK like you showed and you have a 1.6 liter engine or smaller you pay 80% based on what? The price you paid in the UK? I am wondering. Thanks for the great video! Subbed as well!

    • @omercicekk
      @omercicekk 3 года назад +5

      Import or domestic manufactured. All cars have 80-200% "special taxation" before the VAT(18%). Lets say honda civic, ford focus or C class. They all have 1.6 engine, lets say cost of the car is (X+(0.8*X))* 1.18= 2.15X . In other words taxation is more than the car's price. This was just the generic car, if you happen to buy 2liter its 110%~. Real deal starts after 2liter which is usually 220% special tax and it cost around 280% of the car. So you are paying 380K$ for 100K $ car. If you convert 380.000 USD to turkish lira, result is impossible to buy.

    Cars are already expensive, they put 2-3 times tax on it. The government earns more than it produces. Although the average salary in Turkey is 5000 TL, everyone has more than 200.000 TL vehicles because it has become normal now. Average search on roads. The price is around 400.000TL, that is 35.000 Pounds.

      @@akhilpadamata1438 The minimum wage is 2850 TL, that is, 320 dollars. 40% of the population receives this salary. Generally unskilled work. Waitress, cleaner, security person, store sales assistant and many such jobs. If it is a top office in a workplace, that is, people such as marketing manager, sales manager can get an average of 7000TL, while a quality brand can cost more than 15000TL. The salaries of those working in the state are also generally low, but the pension can be almost as much as the salary they receive. Doing your own business is both the most profitable and the most harmful. Getting started is important because it is very difficult. No support. But if you get the job done, you can be considered rich. There are actually a lot of rich people in Turkey, but there are also a lot of poor people. Have to say public transport in Turkey is far better than UK thankfully and cheaper. Haven't missed driving since moving here 13 months ago. Some really bad points though here about driving no offence to the turkish but most shouldn't be behind the wheel. You have to laugh when you see a family of 4 on a scooter or 10 people in a car. The Liberal use of the horn can be looked at 3 ways aggressive or just informing and warning other drivers. Very true about cars holding their prices or even going up. The other point about cars if buying pick the right colour I've noticed a lot of cars losing paint due to the intence heat.

    We share some aspects of your life. We live not far from where you are from, and we had houses in Calis, Uzumlu and Kadikoy, on the way to Sakklikent. We bought a brand new Toyota Yaris from the main dealer on the main road near Ciftlik. Can't remember what we paid but I know it wasn't cheap. I only drove a few miles in it, and took it back. I was convinced we had picked up the wrong one. Talk about basic, there were no extras in it at all, and the CVT gearbox was diabolical. Anyway we had to sell up everything and return to the UK in 2017, when my wife developed cancer. Loved our time in Turkey, and really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

      If you don’t have residence you can keep it up to 2 years, but if you leave the country, you must leave it at the customs or take it with you, there’s a lot of red tape and it’s not really cost-effective either. It costs about £1500 to bring a car to Turkey in fuel and tolls. and eventually you’ve got to take it back.
