      Audio quality no ..
I know the solo is compatible with this dock. I’ve used it.
What I am unsure of is how this dock functions with TB2 adapter.
I would reach out to OWC for confirmation.

Hi Steve - slightly off topic … but … I see the SSL UF8 on your desk … are you doing automation with the UF8 faders? If yes, how is the experience with it? … able to accurately (comfortably) automate more than one fader at a time? what are you using as a transport now that the ICON Platform Nano is off your desk? Thanks!

      Hey mate!
Good eye, yeah - I’ve been hard on the UF8 - and my gripes still stand.
However, I’ve been LOVING the workflow with Luna.
I still have my icon nano - but it’s kind of just sitting off to the side.
For transport / I use the space bar to play stop and the UF8 job wheel to shuttle around the project. The left right buttons will jump to different markers.
The thing that I love about the UF8 is the custom soft keys - and how I’ve implemented them. I’ve considered making it a template for free on my website.
However, some of the functionality is still being developed. So I’ll wait until then for sure.
      However:
Quick keys in the top left.
      1. New track
      2. New instrument track
      3. New bus
Then I have a few pages of quick keys across the top.
A lot of it is logical workflow.
      Timeline toggle
      Arm
      Input monitor
      Record enable project
      New version
      Version up / down
It really is the best controller for Luna IMO. Still not a perfect controller in general.
But DEFINITELY makes me miss it when I don’t have it. Makes Luna way nicer.
Happy to answer any other specific questions.
      Cheers!

Last winter I bought from OWC a Thunderbolt Hub ( Thunder Bolt 3). The front has a single Thunderbolt 3 input from computer and a USB 3.2 10Gb's and the back has 3 Thunderbolt outs. The caveat that I didn't realize at the time was that for my 2018 Mac mini I7 processor needed the Big Sur update. I never did the Update because of Superior Drummer 3 at that time wasn't compatible. You appear to be running Catalina, like me. I know Luna is compatible now with Big Sur. Apple has moved on to yet another OS... Monterey??? Though I think I can get Big Sur still from the Apple site, I wonder what your thoughts are, on why specifically you are on Catalina. A year after Big Sur? I still can't seem to find out whether Superior Drummer 3 ever got compatible with Big Sur. A year later😞

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney  2 года назад +1

Truthfully, moving to Catalina was a mistake, I just haven't had the time to downgrade.... my thoughts:
      1. I don't get why everyone chokes on apples dick over software updates, there typically isn't much more you get from it... it's usually a slightly refreshed GUI, and a few new consumer based features like emoji's, maps & email integrations, etc...
      2. 99% of the time, the software becomes less stable and more sluggish on the devices,.. no matter what anyone tells you... this is apples dirty secret, forced obsolesce. Essentially, the code is written so that your computer doesn't perform as good and eventually you just say screw it and get a new device... usually after they drop some new clever "think different ad campaign."
      3. I'd personally stay far away from anymore software updates. never again.
      4. Whatever comes on my device, will be the system I stay with until I get a new device, thank me later. lol
Now, I'm not sure why your hardware would need an update to run the hub, that one is leaving me puzzled... does it have something to do with OWC software to control the hub or something? is it needed?
Anyways, Cheers mate! Thanks for watching!

The output/input speeds are the same with TB3 & 4 - with a few minor differences. Bandwidth isn’t one of them.

Looks like a good piece of kit. Just bought the Anker compact Thunderbolt 4, it’s not got everything but does a good job, too, for my needs. And while I’m here - would love to see a full UF8 Luna setup. I copied a bunch of Drew’s settings from the UAD event and programmed those in - but he only showed page one before Ben shut him up, lol - maybe we should ask him for screen grabs if the other 4 softley pages..?! :) Maybe your next Luna basics video..? Also - in depth tempo mapping would be great - as would something on using Reason Rack within Luna, versus syncing Reason with midi best clock, pros and cons, plus writing midi from reason rack instruments to Luna tracks (haven’t retried this recently, but struggled when Reason first came out) - if you have a copy, haven’t found anything useful on this anywhere! Oh and and I just won a bet with my son who endures me watching all these tutorials in the background most evenings, lol. I said a few days ago during your control surface vid that “I bet we see a UF8 like mine turning up on his desk soon”, lol. I bought one straight after Luna added controller support, along with a Faderport 2 (isn’t quite working like UAD’s Drew and Connor’s though; I’m probably doing something wrong, but can’t get the F1 button on it to switch views (yes, i’m using shift) - seems odd, as there doesn’t seem to be much configuring you can do

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney  2 года назад +1

dude, YES... since I've got this thing, I've been sitting with it a minute to see how I like the integration.. I've been wanting to make a UF8 & Luna video for a while now, just gotta get through the other videos I have to do..
I also planned on giving away my luna UF8 mapping template for free. I haven't seen drew's so no idea if it's better or not, but I can tell you, it's been great so far.
I kind of mapped it out by pages, Page 1 of soft keys is for tracking, page two is editing & midi,... haven't found a need yet for page 3... quick keys 1-3 mirror the "create new track, bus, etc" commands in the top left of Luna, felt it was only right...
with respect to the f1 key thing... that was my massive gripe with my icon platform nano, the custom mapping just never worked right, and always broke functionality. I'm assuming that's the case with the fader point too...
I'll have to look into tempo mapping, it's a great topic for the channel for sure. You're welcome for the big Vegas win! LOL... cheers Goldmund!
