Reed Sheppard's HISTORIC Start | First Look

- Reed Sheppard has been the biggest surprise of the college basketball season not only becoming Kentucky's best player but a legit NBA prospect all while putting up historic numbers off the bench. Sheppard's unbelievable hands and defensive activity, matched with knock down shooting and high feel give him a great base to be a complimentary NBA guard; but questions about his athleticism and creation upside remain.

Keandre remains goated for NBA draft content
💯
It uses to be Coach Spinella but he got a scouting job for the 76ers so now its Keandre…both are high level content creators tho
Jaxson Hayes*
Yes, Keandre is the GOAT of NBA draft scouting content
Your spot on. Reed Sheppard is the real deal. An all around great player. Smart & humble, and a good heart.
As a Spurs fan, he seems like a perfect fit for a Spurs team that needs a solid playmaker that can shoot/defend at a high level
we both scouting as spurs fans as well??? I love this guy. He is a potential pick for our toronto pick this year.
Spurs fan here. We need this kid badly lol. Or Dillingham. Just give us a play-making PG who can shoot the ball please. We're desperate lmao.
Sadly we rarely get these White American guys early in their career. Like I would have loved a JJ Reddick or Grayson Allen early in their career. Hopefully we get this kid cause he seems like the type we need next to Wemby but we might go for the no-defense Topic or something sadly@@BombSwanson
He's gotta defend, otherwise Sochan is stuck defend the PG and we need him to defend wings. We need a high level defensive PG who can shoot. Playmaking is less critical cause Wemby will playmake a lot from the post for this team based on the last few games. But if we get a killer on defense, then have Sochan on the best Wing, and Wemby inside, that's a killer team next to two guys who can create offense (Devin/Keldon/Malakai)@@bballer191
Spurs fan too.
He's a great college player. Not NBA caliber at all. He's no Stockton or Nash. But, he fits well with college level competition.
I think something that makes him very intriguing is his ability to pass and shoot; off the bounce and in catch and shoot situations. His passing is the skill that will unlock his shooting if paired up with a big that can set good screens and roll well to the basket. There’s definitely a world where he plays on a team with a big man like such and absolutely torches defences on a nightly basis. He will need more craft but there’s definitely an avenue to him finding success in the cat and mouse game that we call the pick and roll
Spurs is a nice fit for him for sure would love to see him at the nba level
NBA GM DEFINITELY NEED TO GRAB THIS KID IN THE TOP5….. IF DROP FUTHER WILL BE INSANE. HE WILL BE 50/40/90 IN NBA!!
My favorite player in the draft cuz of shooting and feel for the game plays the right way
You go and watch john Stockton back in the 90s, Reed Shepard is eerily similar in almost every single aspect. Its crazy
Their is some Stockton their but imo he's nowhere near the defender Stockton was
Great comparison
It's insane how similar he is, like a modern, reboot version of him
He can jump 3 times as high
@@CPB-y9poh come on... Reed's vert is higher than 6" 😂😂😂
Reed to Orlando❗️❗️We need this
I’d love to see him on the Spurs, they can use the Toronto pick to get him. Then use their own to draft Sarr.
Sheppard
Vassell
Sochan
Sarr
Wemby
He would definitely fit as Dillingham could. Not a Spurs fan but would like to see Wenby not get wasted.
Reed has been amazing all season, so fun to watch as he steals the ball or blocks shots, makes perfect passes, or sinks threes. We have a really good team when they play both ends of the floor, we could go all- the- way. But Reed has made it a fun watch for me, I selfishly want him to stay 3 more years, but he is so good, I think he will go in a early pick.
Great back up off the bench for OKC⚡️
Great video, love watching this kid play!
I’ll watch any and all UK content, RUclips should have recommended you sooner……BBN
He’s got Miami written all over him man. that team literally is the perfect fit for hin.
I played him in highschool, u can just tell he was so much smarter then everyone. He was making plays before they were even there. He will be a problem.
Great Video Man!
6’3/6’3 is good enough measurements with decent foot speed he could be passable enough on defense to get on the floor, versus someone like Jimmer Fredette
Have you watched him play? Based on your comment you didn't even watch the damn youtube clip...I'm sorry you had to settle for D3, take that energy into March...oh wait...
This is a disrespectful comment.
@@scottdamon1641 Have you? He's not exactly Matisse or GPII. He's not a plus athlete and he doesn't have plus size and length. That's 70% of being a good defender in the NBA.
So he IS 6'3" and he's NOT an elite athlete and while he is strong for his size, he's not Kyle Lowry/Marcus Smart strong...
He will get picked on in the NBA playing against guys who are 6'8" 230 but he is also good enough that, to OP's point, he won't be a liability like Jimmer. And a lot like Steph and post LA CP he will still be awesome off ball and a slight positive on defense overall because of it. But you WILL have to protect him against giant wings because physics are undefeated.
Unless/until we see high level shot creation he's basically TJ McConnell with shooting or Immanuel Quickley (speaking of on/off analytics darlings). Which is a pretty damn good bench player, fringe starter
Reed is the same height as Steph Curry and Reed is shooting over 50% from 3. If he keeps this up, Reed may be a lottery pick.
He's basically John Stockton with maybe a better jumper.
Could you look into Ercan Osmani?
On the national team with Alperen Sengun, and played youth and professional basketball with him too spanning Banvit, Bandirma Kirmizi and Besiktas teams.
He's only played 12 games and already has this many highlights.
So glad Houston got Reed Sheppard at #3!
As a Spurs fan, I'd like them to pick this guy the first chance they get. All around PG who can set the tone for Wemby and the rest of the team.
I still love Topic, but this guy is IMPRESSIVE. I bet we can walk out with both, considering Topic and him could play together with Topic's size.
@@BombSwanson Topic can't shoot and defend, plus he's recently got injured that would hurt his stock a bit.
This Sheppard is easily the best shooter in this class. He could be a poor man's Steph Curry but a better playmaker and defender.
@@borisabilana6836 this is true. I hope the spurs are able to walk out with two top 10 guys. Dillingham and Sheppard would be hilariousz
@@BombSwanson I prefer Ricachier and Sheppard. Both solid shooters and defender which Spurs desperately need. I hope they retain the Toronto pick. Not sold on Dillingham though.
He may be the pound for pound best player in the league, as a freshman. Being from Kentucky and watching him in live action, I knew he was good. I never knew he was this good though. I thought he was just a great basketball player, not a superstar.
He’ll be good on a roster with established stars already in place.
Future Bull 🐂
Small wingspan but can poke at you, means his timing is impeccable 👌
Future Hornet legend
Better believe Pat Reilly gonna bet the farm to get Reed. If not him, then Tre Mitchell in the second round. Mark it down
He might. But i could see him getting Justin Edwards as well. If Justin doesnt get it going in college he might go down to 2nd round. That would be a steal for anyone who grabbed him. I think Edwards will be better in the NBA. Pat bether grab him if not Reed. Dillingham and Wagner are already drafted in my opinion. No one is talking about Edwards. Reeves will be somewhere. I see the Pacers are starting to do like Heat too. Draft UK players.
Ya ooof ya
He will end up being the best player in this draft
JJ Reddick was 6'4 an made good career out same style as Reed so hopefully Reed will find his role n nba
But quicker.
Hope he likes okc
Dalton Knecht next?
He’s a spur
Solid College Player. Won't translate to the NBA though.
And please learn to speak clearer and slower. Sounded like an entire run-on sentence everything running together with a monotone. Had to mute.
If he projects in the 11-14 range as a shooting guard he’ll turn out to be an all star lmao for some reason shooting guard’s drafted in the range turn out to be ballers😂
No way man
Not the guy.
He doesn't get credit for his acting skills in all those American Pie movies.
Keandre, did you speed up the vocal tack or did you drink way too much Starbucks?
To test where he is in the NBA, measure him against Mac Mcclung. NBA don’t want Mac.
Reed should stay at UK 4 years and go in the rafters. He would be a god in Ky. Then try NBA because he’s got 4years max in the NBA.
Nah this dude is a college player he won’t even go first round nor will he get drafted
White Ball
His IQ poised and toughness is amazing. His work ethic will take him a long way. Doesn’t have measurable but has the mental game which I love. I saw his team carved up bronny and dillingham team in aau. His fundamentals is amazing
He more athletic then ppl think to too his dad could ump out the gym tho
Similar to Derrick White. Can play on or off ball as a playmaker/connector, elite shooting, high iq, elite defensively. This is an extremely rare archetype. White has always been one of the best impact players in the entire league and I see the same with Reed. He should be in #1 pick discussions
insane take hahahaha
He is similar to white but not a no 1 overall
@@Michael-tj5bk look at whites impact numbers… he’s as impactful as many number 1 picks. Look past the counting stats
I was right there with you until the last sentence. You wouldn't take White #1 overall.... and Sheppard won't go #1 overall either. He's good, but the #1 pick will have higher upside. If it was me, I'd take Sarr #1. I'm Australian, so I've watched him a lot and he's being REALLY under-utilised by Perth's shitty coach.
Excellent except White developed after he was in the league. Given that there are no certain stars in this draft he should go top 7 along with Rob.
I get the concerns but they're concerns about every prospect. The numbers are ridiculous and in a draft where there's this much uncertainty and he's dominating at this level, why not top 5? Like being good at basketball matters. Yes the self creation could be a concern but he's also smart and can figure that out. He does way too much stuff that you can't teach.
Good fit in Spurs
yep.
We need a damn PG. and fire coach pop he gotten soft and the culture has been down. Tired of the losing seasons. Need some vets too
The NBA is forming at the mouth. I'm not sure who has the first pick?. Do they need a point guard?. He should probably he'll go top 10. He's going to get paid. He's a great player. There's b******* and there's everything else. Even if you pick him at number three or four. Whatever I don't see how you really lose. So you're telling me he's going to get worse?. Highly doubtful. If anything you can get way better and way better and better and better you know. Obviously I think if you can do it to an organization or he can be a fostered. Into the NBA game. Let me tell you something. He is an NBA player. He will be in the NBA. He will play for somebody and he will f****** put up numbers. He's a walking double double. For example. Let's say Phoenix. Let's see. Miami. Those places where he can learn grow be better but also he's going to f*** them up. He's going to come in to the NBA and piss a lot of people off.
He’s the best guard ky has
Dont do that. Hes good but hes not the best. They all three are good. Reed is great but hes not a tough bucket getter. Which thats the beauty of it. He doesnt have to be, bc he has Wagner and Dillingham to do that. But they wouldve lost against UNC if it wasnt for Wagner and Dillingham down the strecth. They got the gritty buckets that Reed has yet to show he can. They all bring something to the team that the other does not. Yall gotta stop with the Reed stuff. I get it. Hometown kid. Parents UK legends. But they have other guards that are just as higly rated.
That’s ur opinion, I have mine along with
With a lot of others he’s definitely the most skilled point guard we have noticed how the offense runs when he’s playing if he was taking as many shots the other guards he scores 30 pts game u can tell who puts the team first it’s shepherd he’s already on record as the most talented guard I like all of kys players but it’s shepherd time in the spot lite now he plays like a pro , and if he’s doesn’t play 35 min against Florida will be on the losing end the other guards will catch up by march im sure . It’s Shepard that everyone is talking about if u think it’s just because he’s a ky boy that’s the reason where all excited. Grow up .
Future ROCKET
Orlando Magic?!
This guys giving me podziemski vibes
some stockton vibes
He actually reminds me of Stockton. Their so similar
Except Stockton smaller and not a great long shooter or as athletic as him. But fundaments are similar
@@Antbeast23 idk, stockton shot around 40% on l wanna say 2-3 attempts, so it prob would be at least 6 shots today with similar %. athletically i dont see much difference, mostly cause how reed moves really reminds me of stockton. and size...6.1 barefoot...6.3 in shoes..its all the same
Future Silver and Black
Keandre still making the best draft scouting vids on the site man wow
hes special
Literally a perfect fit for the Pacers.
austin reaves 2.0
Reed gonna play himself into lottery
I see him as a spur paired with wemby? Deym
Future raptor
Just a small detail; in 5:38, he pointed to his teammate under the rim after the loose ball. His teammate who got the ball didn't see it so he passed it ahead when he got the ball. That quick decision shows his BB IQ.
Please make a similar video about Matas buzelis
when’s the next big board dropping????👀 love the vids
Editing games leveled up even from just a few months ago.
hopefully he comes to the spurs
#7
Mark Price
Sheppard’s game is definitely closer to Mark Price than any other former NBA player
austin reaves clone
Meh... Reaves was a bit bigger and better at creating for himself
great college player but he's likely going to be just a bench piece in the NBA due to him being only 6'2" with poor length and below average athleticism. No chance he's a lottery pick. Most of his stats are because Kentucky is loaded and facing mostly terrible opposition.
We shall see
That's the vibe I get watching the video a smart hard worker who was able to overcome a lot of his physical limitations due to that but now that teams have solid tape on him a lot of his shortcomings will be exploited having to play bigger an better athletes as for NBA I think the afformentioned hard work and smarts will help him carve a role in the league but I just can't see him being a true star at the next level especially if he can't consistently get his own shot I think in the league he ends up somewhere between jj Reddick and Steve Kerr
he has a 40 inch vertical but cool just cause hes white he has "below average athleticism" smfh
Bro played Kansas Miami North Carolina etc. watch u mean bad competition?! And it takes more than just having measurables. His IQ poised work ethic and toughness as a player will help him keep improving. His potential is crazy. If he keeps improving on defense which is good already watch out.
@@johndavis9321not a bad career. But he has more potential than those guys. Can’t really judge till he gets to the nba
