- Reed Sheppard made a runner from just inside the foul line with less than a second left a nd finished with a career-high 32 points, giving No. 16 Kentucky a wild 91-89 victory over Mississippi State on Tuesday night.
Mississippi State’s Josh Hubbard tied it at 89 with 11 seconds remaining by hitting his seventh 3-pointer of the game. Hubbard finished with career bests of seven 3s and 34 points.
Kentucky led 85-78 with 49 seconds to play before Hubbard drained a 3. After Sheppard hit two free throws, Mississippi State’s Cameron Matthews converted a three-point play that cut it to 87-84. The Bulldogs closed within a point after Tolu Smith sank two free throws, before two more by Sheppard with 17 seconds left set up the frantic finish.
Antonio Reeves scored 21 points for Kentucky (20-8, 10-5 SEC). Adou Thiero added 11 points and D.J. Wagner had 10. Kentucky has won 19 straight regular-season meetings with Mississippi State, including four overtime victories.
“He plays to win,” Kentucky coach John Calipari said of Sheppard. “He’s not playing not to lose. And we had to make some 3s to stay in the game. So we were running stuff to make some 3s in the first half to stay in the game. They went zone (in the second half), but we still ran stuff to get off some looks on 3s.”
Kentucky shot 55% from the floor and made 10 of 30 tries from 3-point distance. The Wildcats shot 15 for 17 at the line and committed 10 turnovers.
Mississippi State shot 52% from the field and made 11 of 25 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs were 12 for 17 at the free-throw line and had 15 turnovers. They also outrebounded Kentucky 34-27.
Smith had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (19-9, 8-7). Shakeel Moore added 10 points.
“Once we hit a couple of shots to open the second half and got the lead to 13, they subbed pretty quick with those two freshmen (Sheppard and Rob Dillingham),” Mississippi State coach Chris Jans said. “They are two of the most dynamic guards in the nation and they got their pace up. They played with more pace, offensively, and were more determined.
“They got good looks out front, and on ball screens we were not as aggressive for whatever reason. But got to give them a lot of credit. They made a heck of a play and (Sheppard) is like another coach out there. We had the game where we wanted and they flipped the script on us.”
Mississippi State raced to a 14-3 advantage and led the entire first half. Kentucky trimmed the deficit to 32-30 on a layup by Wagner with 4:28 remaining. The Bulldogs closed the half on an 11-5 surge and led 43-35 at the break.
Mississippi State shot 53% in the opening half and went 5 of 9 from behind the arc. The Bulldogs outrebounded Kentucky 20-13, including six offensive boards.
Kentucky shot 48% from the floor in the first half and made 7 of 18 from long distance. - Спорт
Played one of the best all-around games you'll see as a guard and came through in the clutch. Sheppard is a dawg!
He's my dawg!
Pace, angles, fundamentals, a play maker. Kid is def nice
two-way nightmare guard to go head up against, plus the court vision and the lethal shot. can't wait to see it in March crazy madness month.
so about that
@@TsukiRaiki😂😭
Woj has him going to Htown with the 3rd pick
If he was 6’5, he’d be the number one pick or number 2 pick after Sarr.. that’s why Topic is rated higher than him, when Reed is better defensively, is that Topic is 6’6..
I wouldn’t take sarr over him
Ball knower @@Justfranktbh
He fits the rockets like a glove
Facts I want him to go the Spurs so I’ll be shocked if The rockets don’t take him if he’s available
One of the best performances I’ve ever seen
Brother Reed is a rocket!!!
The high IQ player never be lied
First impression. I like this guy! Quick, great shooter.
Great all around player. He has NBA all star potential. He has no problem getting to the rim in college where the lane is tighter. With NBA spacing and his shooting ability, he will get to the bucket all day at the next level.
Naa...he could thrive in Europe. Defensively not quick or big enough to be a top player in the NBA right now...maybe in the 70's.
Mark Price II
I was looking for this comment. I usually don’t like comparisons but this one’s good.
too athletic to be mark price. Looks a lot like steph curry when he was in college...not NBA steph but college steph. Looks like he as a serious vertical
My comp for him is klay Thompson
A great talent, wish you the best Reed.
His release in spot ups is lightning quick
He'll definitely make a very good NBA player
That jumper is insane
Looks like a smaller Klay
Better passer and point guard type than Klay.
I was thinking same thing.
You have to give Kudos to Josh Hubbard. He is just a freshman.
REED SHEPPARD is a freshman. Sheppard was named the national freshman of the year by United States Basketball Writers Association. Assists, blocked shots, high percentage shooter. Hubbard is good, but Sheppard is better. Sheppard is shooting 52 percent from three for the year, Hubbard is shooting 35 percent. And Hubbard doesn't get steals, blocks, assists or rebounds like Sheppard does.
As is often the case, we're still in the midst of this whole experience, not really appreciating that it too will come to an end. I'm telling y'all, enjoy, appreciate it. Because soon enough we'll be saying, "remember when" or "remember how good, how fun it was"... Go CATS!
He would be nice in SAS
At which pick 4 or 8
@@jermainelinen9453 @ pick 8.... pick 4 could be castle.
Lottery pick for sure especially in this weak draft
Bro is easy a top 7 pick
Everybody talking about Rob but this is who I want on the raptors
Reed and Gradey would be too OP. I’m not even a Raps fan but I definitely wanna see that
Spurs might get y’all pick bro
@@rickeymickeyii4166 the way we suck rn looks like it’s coming our way. Well hopefully…
How can people watch this and say his athleticism is concerning. If anything, his athleticism is a selling point. He may not be wiggly but he has elite burst
When you're 6'1-6'2 you need to be quick because you're too small to guard wings, he's slow for a p.g in the nba is the issue. Jimmer Fredette had this same issue.
@@4evahodlingdoge226jimmer was much slower. I think people aren’t correctly processing what they’re seeing with reed and are just stereotyping him because he’s white. His handle isn’t advanced but I think he’s just as quick as a Lowry or a Mike Conley. He’s more bursty than a FVV type player. He doesn’t have the strength yet. He doesn’t get to the rim all that much because of his role and because his handle is meh. But his speed won’t hold him back. Look at the blocks he’s getting. The lift he gets off the ground on those is some elite athleticism.
@@natbearsonKyrie is also a 6'2 guard without elite athleticism but he has elite shooting and ball handling, this guy needs to be a point guard but he plays like s.g is the issue, i don't see him being an nba player.
@@4evahodlingdoge226 well your comment aged like spoiled milk after his combine performance. 42” vertical….highest at the combine and timed great in all the other drills.

@@arizjones damn bruh we get it but I was telling em to show some love for Hubbard too
Impressive kid, he looks like a better perimeter shooting John Stockton, a slightly smaller Steve Nash or a half step quicker Mark Jackson. Maybe a combo of the 3 which would be a great thing to be. He's projected a middle first round but I wouldn't be surprised if he's one of those guys that should have gone in the lottery.
He going to end up either book or fredette well its up to him
Spurs go get em.
Welcome to Charlotte
Guy has a 42 inch vertical. Didnt bang on anybody in this video lol. About 4-5 times in this video, I'm thinking "dunk that sh*t". Guy does an acrobatic underhanded layup. Seems like he reserves the hops for defense lol
Rockets need him at PG, this mofo is nice... or Clingan at C, then Sengun can move to PF
wait you saying rockets dont have a starting PG?!
@@asianangler ain't nobody worried about Fred Van Fleet. His best days are behind him

No to Clingan, please. Sheppard will be an asset for the Rockets, if they select him.
This is the best point guard in the draft
He’s a PG? No a 2?

This is a great pick for the Charlotte Hornets. 4th overall.
Welcome to the Spurs!!!
At which pick 8 or 4
Welcome to the San Antonio Spurs and Wemby..Team Pop is watching and waiting.
TOO BAD, SO SAD!!! The ROCKETS pick before the sorry Sperms.😂😂😂😂😂
If he falls to the Spurs and they don't draft him they're dumb as hell. He and Wemby both have so much gravity, playmaking, and complementary defensive skills that building around them should be easy mode.
Why dj play like he ion wanna fuck up or sum shi getting me tight
I said the same thing. I believe it's his confidence. He's no longer THE top dog but on a team with other top dogs and having trouble finding his place.
Add to that the fact that he's not super bursty and speedy like Dillingham or has a textbook sweet jumper like Reed, it make you look at yourself differently as a player. Like "Damn, I thought I was good..."
I believe his best asset is his handles and ability to use it to get to the rim. However, when he gets there he's not strong, lack burst and craft.
@@QUAN81880he’s the 3rd best gird on the team it’s an adjustment from being the best player in the team you whole life
@@shaulyehudah29he’s the 4th best guard on the team… Dillingham and Sheppard are lottery picks and Reeves is average just about 20 ppg
Man DJ gonna be alright. This team is made of scorers. Everyone forgetting DJ dropped 28 earlier in the season too. Everyone forgets what DJ did to UNC. He saved them in that game. Him and Dillinghmam. Then he got injured. Been trying to get back from that. Reed is not the only player that has had his big night. Edwards, Dillingham and Reeves have also had their big game this yr. Maybe next game is Wagners again since hes been in a slump. I said the same thing right before Edwards dropped 28. Its coming for Wagner.
English?
Spurs selects him and another top ten pick please!

The Rockets have already met him at the NBA Combine.
Giving me Mitchell and Klay vibes
Good college player for sure. League will shut most this down. Not many teams lacking a guard. Kid plays soo fundamental. He get some athleticism it’s soo over with
I’ll come back to this comment in a couple years
This comment won’t age well
Him
He knew if he passed it to rob he wasn’t getting the ball back so he gave it to DJ hoping he got it back
Reddick 2.0
Suns need him
Jason Kidd like
Rockets 👀
Mcbuckets cousin 😂
that block was Zion-esque. Lol
He has a Steve Alford, Mark Price jump shot with more explosiveness and overall athleticism
Hopefully Rockets draft Sheppard. He is Austin Reeves 2.o but a way better shooter and scorer.
Reeves is 6'5.
Only thing he has in common with Reaves is their barber
Miami Heat
My comp for him is klay Thompson.
Smaller and younger Version of Klay Thompson
John Stockton clone
More like Jimmer reborn
Jimmer that you!?😢
he better than Rob Dill?
Baller him with rob dillingham
He looks like a modern day Jerry West.

Undersized 2 guard without p.g handle and playmaking and elite quickness, he's not an nba player imo.
I hope he falls to the 2nd round and the Mavs get him. We could use a guard like this to replace THJ who’s been awful. Sadly he’ll probably go first round. I haven’t looked a mock drafts but he seems like a mid 1st talent to me.
He’s going top 5
@@scottv5587 fr?? Mavs don’t have a 1st so I haven’t looked at this draft at all. No disrespect bc this kid looks solid but top 5?? The draft must be very underwhelming then right?
@@Spacewalk11 it’s one of the most underwhelming drafts I’ve ever seen
@@scottv5587 That makes sense. Again no disrespect to Sheppard but he looks like a maybe pick 14-20 type talent. Top 5 is absurd. I guess the law of averages is real. Last years draft was amazing between lively, Wemby, the twins Brandon miller, Pods, Jaime, and many more so this year had to be underwhelming. I need to look some stuff up I don’t even know who’s supposed to be first overall. I know Ron Holland is supposed to go high, I’ve heard the name Alex Sarr, topic, and Jalen Williams of the thunders younger brother but that’s it & im usually keeping up with the draft really well
