Jonathan Winters: A Wild Winters Night | George Schlatter's Collection (1964)

This full-length special features an exclusive introduction by producer George Schlatter (LAUGH-IN), who thought so highly of his friend Jonathan Winters and his skills as an entertainer that he set out to produce a show around the comedian on NBC. Schlatter tells the behind-the-scenes story of the production, also, starring Art Carney (THE HONEYMOONERS). It was in the aftermath of the asassination of President John F. Kennedy that the special took a turn. With not much of a locked in script or rehearsal time, Schlatter had to pivot and told WInters and Carney to "just play while I make up the show." A WILD WINTERS NIGHT is a testament to the talents of Winters and Carney and their ability to bring joy and laughter, even during the grief America felt after JFK's death. Amazing stuff! Jonathan Winters was an incredible talent. Robin Williams talked about Jonathan's improvisational abilities and how it helped him in his career.
Glad this survived showcasing Winters fantastic comedy.
