- Alejandro Escovedo will be inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame on October 28, 2021.
Called a “rock and punk godfather” by Rolling Stone, Alejandro Escovedo first debuted on Austin City Limits in 1983 with his seminal band Rank and File, and has made five indelible appearances. The San Antonio-born, California-raised trailblazer has been a punk of the rebel kind in early band The Nuns, a cowpunk of the non-Western variety in Rank and File, commander of a guitar army in The True Believers, an orchestral conductor in his solo work, and a sensitive boy who has outrun death, demons, lust, and lost love in his songs. Crossing borders, jumping barriers, taking risks, betting it all: that’s the path Alejandro Escovedo has taken in his lifelong search for the heart of rock ‘n’ roll. No Depression magazine declared him the Artist of the Decade at the onset of the millennium. His 12th studio album, 2018’s The Crossing, is a testament to his enduring power as a uniquely talented artist and collaborator. Escovedo has appeared on ACL five times - in 1983 (as part of Rank and File), 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2017.
About Austin City Limits
Austin City Limits (ACL) offers viewers unparalleled access to featured acts in an intimate setting that provides a platform for artists to deliver inspired, memorable, full-length performances. Now in its 47th Season, the program is taped live before a concert audience from The Moody Theater in downtown Austin. Austin City Limits is the longest-running music series in television history and remains the only TV series to ever be awarded the National Medal of Arts. Since its inception, the groundbreaking music series has become an institution that’s helped secure Austin’s reputation as the Live Music Capital of the World. The historic KLRU Studio 6A, home to 36 years of ACL concerts, has been designated an official Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Landmark. In 2011, ACL moved to the new venue ACL Live at The Moody Theater in downtown Austin. ACL received a rare institutional Peabody Award for excellence and outstanding achievement in 2012.

I can NOT state just how wonderful he is... Amazing catalog of music... I have tryed to turn people on to his greatness but I've learned that one either gets him or they don't... Too bad for the ones who don't
Pretty much. He's fantastic as a songwriter, musician, performer and more. But those who don't get him probably really like some act/musician I wouldn't get into, either.
Genre-bending, and it's all world-class art. He's also one of the nicest people you're ever likely to run across. Al is a goddamn jewel.
Went to see Joe Ely a couple of years ago and this Alejandro guy was with him. I'd never heard of him. By the time it was over I was like, Joe who? AE totally stole the show! What an amazing talent!
Townes, David Rodriguez, Calvin Russell, Jimmy La Fave...and many great Austin singer-songwriters gone, and so missed. Feels so good to see Alejandro breathing and thriving. Little Charlie, look who's talkin. Wow!
I was so fortunate to see by the Hand of the Father at the Getty in LA and the Gammage at ASU. That album changed my life. Quite possibly the best American songwriter in my lifetime.
Really awesome! Love everything he’s ever done!
He will always go down as one of my all time favorites. He’s a Mexican-Lou Reed
I always got Tom Petty vibes from Alejandro but I suppose he would rather be known as himself. Particularly from the show in season 36 that include always a friend to you.
@@lethiapage4767Definitely a Petty-ish tune, but a bit Springsteen-ish too.
@@patrickhawkinson8399 Springsteeny! Hahah Alejandro and Springsteen are friends,

Such purity of artistic intent being realized - no pretense.
He’s genius.
