- About Austin City Limits
Austin City Limits (ACL) offers viewers unparalleled access to featured acts in an intimate setting that provides a platform for artists to deliver inspired, memorable, full-length performances. Now in its 47th Season, the program is taped live before a concert audience from The Moody Theater in downtown Austin. Austin City Limits is the longest-running music series in television history and remains the only TV series to ever be awarded the National Medal of Arts. Since its inception, the groundbreaking music series has become an institution that’s helped secure Austin’s reputation as the Live Music Capital of the World. The historic KLRU Studio 6A, home to 36 years of ACL concerts, has been designated an official Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Landmark. In 2011, ACL moved to the new venue ACL Live at The Moody Theater in downtown Austin. ACL received a rare institutional Peabody Award for excellence and outstanding achievement in 2012.
Austin City Limits is produced by Austin PBS, KLRU-TV and funding is provided in part by Dell Technologies, Workrise, the Austin Convention Center Department and Cirrus Logic. Additional funding is provided by the Friends of Austin City Limits. Learn more about Austin City Limits, programming and history at acltv.com.
Alejandro, John Doe, Lenny Kaye and Shiela E. - tremendous
And Lloyd Maines on slide guitar.
Wonderful, nothing lost here.
who's got the gold guitar?
@@redrover3259 David Grissom! Another Austin legend
Fab music
John Doe is a deity. For as many cigarettes as John smoked (don't think he does anymore), his voice is remarkably intact. The singing on last year's X album was gorgeous.
This song nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it, John Doe was phenomenal like always!
Few know what a versatile talent John Doe is.
And a telemark skier!
What a great group of folks Alejandro has there. Seen him play many times at a small club in El Paso.
Makes me miss the good ol' days in Austin, Texas
makes me miss the good ol`times in germany in the 70ties
@cesaralvarado6218 me too… So many of the old music venues are gone and there are too many people now.
A band of heavy hitters showing exactly what they are capable of. Tremendous take of a wonderful song. Love Sheila E's look of joy at the 5:09 mark. She really is the low-key hero on this song amongst titans.
Great song and cast of musicians! Look at Lloyd Maines kick ass on that steel guitar. He’s such a down to earth guy. Sheila E, Alejandro’s niece, was a great addition to the group. I remember seeing her at the Paramount Theatre for the Por Vida concert in ‘05. She played the drum so fast her hands literally blurred. Those two nights of Por Vida are in my top ten best concerts ever!
Thanks for all your great music Alejandro never stop !
@scottmccullo Amen! The first time I saw him play was at the old Saengerhalle, outside New Braunfels. He was playing solo that night more than 20 years ago. I’ve seen him many more times since… He’s priceless
That Drummer! Being from MN there's something familiar about her. :)
😀
She’s a glamorous badass
@@pazenmaz Haha!
Great to hear Alejandro’s niece playin deep in the pocket on her uncle’s masterpiece. Shelia sounds so good with this ensemble.
@Amos Warren no, she's his niece.
I first saw John at the Pacific Ampetheater in 1986? His band X opened for Oingo Boingo. Man!... what an evening that was!😘
I love this version. JD sings a new take.
Pure greatness. And I love that John is wearing a name tag.
Brings me to tears every time I hear this.
Outstanding!
Beautiful!
Some heavy hitters in that band...
Absolutely sublime...
Love this!
just wow
Wow that was amazing!
Spectacular 🥰
A very heavy blanket on a bed we're too comfortable in.
7:28 Yes
god. damn.
, .......... yeah , .... very good old school !
Now That'za Band!
Cool.
Brillant !
wow.
Yeah when he said good singer I dint really think of John Doe however John sang the hell out of that. I see now what they meant. Low key great voice
Tremendous voice.
Who is playing lap steel? Amazing!
Lloyd Maines. Austin music scene fixture
Lloyd Maines on the pedal steel. Natalie's dad to some. TX legend to all.
Eric Heywood played with Alejandro in the past and is quite brilliant himself. Played on classic Son Volt albums for those who like Son Volt.
Although commonly associated with his adopted hometown of L.A., John Doe was originally a Baltimoron -- same for Talking Heads' frontman, David Byrne.
Another notable musician original to Maryland who later relocated elsewhere (although I'm not sure he was a fellow Baltimorean) was Frank Zappa
, ... interesting !
Wonderful song and John Doe so soulful...give the pedal steel guy more money he deserves it.
The steel pedal guy is Lloyd Maynes, father of Natalie. He’s a legend himself!
Sonny Landreth, me thinks?
you mean Lenny Kaye?
