This is probably the best video I have seen on the Baofeng. There are plenty of videos out there showing how to unlock. Which I did not want to do unless I knew how to go back to amateur settings. After watching this I found my radio was unlocked, but I was able to turn the amateur settings on.
Fantastic!! So happy it helped you!! It’s a great radio - especially for learning. Once you understand navigating all the programming etc you can feel more confident in choosing any of the deeper featured radios from brands like icom etc. Or not. But I think this model is excellent for the money 😊👍📻 cheers and 73.
A Factory Reset only opens up the Baofeng to a wider transmit and receive on the radio. But you need the Baofeng software to open the firmware and put in the frequencies you want. For example - the Factory Reset opens up the radio to 136MHz to 174MHz on 2Meters and from 400MHz to 520MHz on the 73 & 70 cm Bands. But you do not have access to those frequencies unless you verify them on the Baofeng Software (VIP edition), and then you can put in those frequencies you use or want to use. Without this step you are stuck with 140MHz - 170MHz and 400 - 480MHz. This can only be done with the Baofeng software (VIP Ed.) and not with CHIRP. CHIRP may allow what or where you want to transmit but it will not be accepted by the radio's firmware. The Baofeng (VIP Ed) does something to the firmware to make it so and then you can use CHIRP to add what frequency channels you want.
I'm new to ham radio, and bought the UV-5R before watching your video. I'm not transmitting, as I don't have my licence as yet, but am currently studying for it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge - subscribed.
The Baofeng UV-5R has been improved upon and fixed problems like the Spurious Emissions. This is true with the late 2020 and mid 2021 Baofeng UV-5Rs, while older radios still have the problem. But that too is an easy fix, as in you can get the filter/antenna board from a newer radio and replace the older one with it. This filter antenna board on the newer UV-5R is the same as in the GT-5R. Plus You can get a Baofeng UV-5R direct from Baofeng for under $20, while you would have to spend nearly $40 for the GT-5R, Unless the GT-5R has other options not supported on the UV-5R, why buy a GT-5R at double the price of the UV-5R? They are essentially the same radio. And if you know your hacks and tricks on the UV-5R, you can get it to do more. with a "Factory Reset" just being the beginning.
I noticed that doing the same sequence but using a number other than 5 appears to setup other modes. You can see names other than Amateur briefly on screen. I don't know what they do.
The big negative is that NO ONE seems to pronounce the name the same or correctly. And get the GT-5R Fixes the spurious emotions. And you can unlock it for GMRS/Frs. Yes i have a license for both.
The pronunciation in this video is correct assuming that the company knows how to spell their own name in Hanyu Pinyin. I would be shocked if they don’t.

Interesting thought but no since you could be interfering with other people’s emergencies. Your frequency could be clear but your spurious signal could hinder other situations 🙂

Thank you for taking the time to make and post this excellent video on *Baofeng* two radios!
Thank you for the comment 😊😊😊
I find your accent very soothing and relaxing. 🥰
Great video. All your videos have been extremely helpful in this hobby! Thank you!
Thank you so much!😊
Brilliant. Most helpful video on the GT-5R I've seen yet.
Most awesome comment I’ve seen yet 😁👍📻
Excellent video, Its just too bad that since Baofeng updated the radio why didn't they add USB-C charging also.
Thanks for teaching us how to lock it. I unlocked mine then changed my mind.
You are welcome!

I am pretty sure you can also set the band width Upper and Lower cut offs, by using the Chirp programming software.

My GT5R was still $26. Very solid radio 😊📻
I just ordered two GT-5R for $40.00 on eBay from a US seller.
Just FYI, this also works on the UV-5R. Just verified on mine.
yes, worked on my uv-5r too 👍
Can you lock and unlock the BOAFENG-5RX (Upgraded of UV-5R) using the method demonstrated in this video?
The negative is that the tx (microphone) audio is very low and muffled.
Great video that explains a lot that I did not know …
Glad it was helpful!

I’ll have to play around and check that out!
I found that using 3 6 or 9 says things but I believe it's the firmware you are using. If you find out please share. I am also using the GMRS version
Agree, it appears to be informational only, firmware version, etc.
I get my GT-5R two days ago and mine says CE and not the Amateur.... same thing but I think is little update :) thanks for that video
I see what you did there. Very clever. 😉
Thank You for an excellent video.

I worked in China for five months so I’m around 95% confident I’m saying it right hehe.

Only if you transmit. Listening you do not need a license.
In some countries you do need a license to own the equipment and listen. The US only requires a license to transmit 👍
Did you find the UV-5R perfoms better with the Quansheng UV-K5 antenna on it? 🙃
I recommend upgrading to whip antenna for Baofeng. I have a couple of options in my linktree. Definitely makes a difference. 👍
@@GlamHamRadio I have a signal sticks on my Boafeng and Anytome 878.
Oh I have one of those too 👍👍
Can you advise how to tell if the UV-5R I have is a real one or a fake?
I bought the gt because of you.
Awesome 👍
Wouldn’t you want those emissions ? If it was an actual emergency ?

Works on the UV-9R Pro as well PTT,Mon,#,Pwr works to unlock if anyone is curious.
Anyone with a License New or Otherwise should know better... Thank You
I can’t get my bf-f8hp how do I unlock frequencies
I have an GT-5R and when I do the unlock I cannot talk yet on the GMRS bands. Is there any other fix? 😢
Do you see a word Factory?
Thank you
UV-5R is awesome …. and cheap
Background music is too loud and unnecessary to the video, very annoying! Otherwise great video!
Noted!
Wow... thanks!
I can’t get my bf-f8hp how do I unlock frequencies
Could be a batch / model where they can’t be unlocked.
