As someone who spent decades screaming in hardcore punk and death metal bands (a few bm tinged as well) allow me to tell you that while there truly is no accounting for taste (in entirety)... there is however far better bands from each respective genre as well as the increasingly popular kitchen-sink type metal bands. This new album is admittedly better than the last few but that still isnt saying a fuck of alot..kinda like the recent morbid angel "k" album: could be worse but still ultimately just shoddy lip service
Darkthrone is one of the very few bands out there (no matter the genre) that always deliver. 30 years and still absolutely killing it. Much respect to these gentlemen.
Truly great. One thing I love about Darkthrone is they just do there own thing regardless of current trends. Always have that raw black metal vibe at heart but always Taking on board other influences to keep it fresh.
What I love about them also is that they always considered Black Metal to be an other branch on the tree, not something completely new or different. They are huge metal fans, and you can tell when you listen to any of their albums.
@@asmodeos666 Black metal is still new and different by comparison, almost a subculture within a subculture, but yes, it's obviously inspired by other metal that came before and literally nobody has ever disputed that. Not just Fenriz.
It's pretty much terrifying and satisfying when the members of the band knew what they have to do for their releases, even on experimentation of sound, they never disappoints, what a great band. To the point that when Darkthrone releases a glam album, everybody will still worship it.

@david morison Alright Ill bait....clears throat. Main Crash is beautiful, snare sits very nicely, hats have a good white noise wash, Kick is warm and sits just out a little. all these are good. Playing is amazing in context, and i can hear some "character" in the playing, he plays like he means it. Is it sloppy?, well kinda.....does it matter?, nope not one bit. Context is a wonderful thing you cannot always learn, and many white bread sudo-musicians/fans that dont get it always junp up and point and yell like its some great evil (no pun). go and re-listen to the song and focus on thinking about why he plays that way.

Love that Burzum, Key to the Gate-sounding section near the end there. How auspicious that the next track contains the word key. A lot of great inspirations in this album. Darkthrone are truly Gods of black metal.
@@Heavymetaleternia Yeah there was "punk" period and I liked that stuff too. But I think they do what they feel. My favorite is Panzerfaust and Fenriz's own Isengard -Hostmörk project. Soulside journey is also great Death Metal tune. Their variations of style is just great richness I think.
