Many old homestead farms could easily have old wells, old root cellars, old storm cellars, old outhouse pits around the property. Even old old family cemetary plots.
Hint , Install a 10 foot gate centered on the sinkhole that will open INTO your property so you can respond to any future problems with the sinkhole ! Don't fence yourself off from the sinkhole !
Sow the Land Magic Fairy Dust. Somehow you've been born with perfect pitch and your music sings to a lot of people. That's not to say you're "Perfect". Perfection is a childhood trauma nightmare, lol (Those who know hear me). But you've got something that rings true in a universal way and that's priceless. Thank you for being you. Best, warm wishes to this wonderful family and anyone else who happens by with good intentions. ❤ Mark, Scotland.
It is looking so good, Jason. With each 100 ft. you seem to be doing better. It sure does make a more comfortable winter project than fighting the heat and bugs etc. At least as long as the ground doesn't freeze. Thanks for taking us along. Y'all have a Blessed evening. See you tomorrow with Al & Ben.
Love your sense of humor! Good idea switching back and forth from the fencing to the greenhouse. Great job on getting to the 200' mark on the fence. Nothing to sneeze at that is for sure. May your Christmas be a happy and blessed one! 🎆🎄🤩 Thank you for all the time and work you put into your videos. Been loving the podcasts too.😊
Hi, Jason! The fence is coming right along. Your persistence is commendable. Merry Christmas to you, Lorraine, and Penelope. I loved the magazine article.
The solashing mud in that hole is what would happen to me lol. 😂😂 Youre a hard worker Jason. You got your whole life to work on your property, Im sure you will accomplish A LOT!
Gates are super expensive. Maybe have a chat with Ben about cost to repair what you have. Then you can paint them all black to blend in. Loving your content!
Old farmer say your fence needs to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong. I believe you got that covered.😀 It is looking real good. I know you’ll be glad to get it behind you
I actually like the bobbing and weaving strategy. Also you said you needed woodchips..... rent a chipper and get all those bushes and trees you chopped down on the outside of the fencing. There was a bunch right there on the other side of the fence.
When you have room if you will use your truck or a tractor as an anchor it will make it easier to nail and work on everything. The fence is looking great good work.
You need to build a vertical fence roller for that graduated wire fencing, after about 500’ rolling it out like you did by hand I had enough and decided to build my own to finish the property. what a life saver.
Seasons greetings Jason. I'm wondering if that sinkhole could be a hidden spring. You could have discovered another water source for your critters. It would be interesting to see if, after digging around it, the hole would fill up with water.
You are doing an amazing job with the fence. Also I enjoy reading every one of your video's Comment section. You have awesome followers that leave awesome comments. I never miss a video and I always read your channels Comment section. 🤗 Merry Christmas. ❣️🎄🎅🏻🎀
Take it from a guy that has a homestead on the side of a mountain. We have lots of runoff sink areas. Hopefully yours are not the new Howe Caverns of North Carolina. If they are small enough to fill, don't just fill them with wood chips. The wood rots and turns into soil, so it will be an annual thing that never stops needing fill. You want to fill that area with coarse rip-rap to take up space and give it some lasting rock structure. If you have access to some hard clay, that mixed with some gravel makes a good surface to allow water to run over the bigger rocks during rainy days. I save the rocks from our garden areas to pile up in water run sink areas.
Sink hole is probably an old stump that has rotted out. Doing fence is hard work, esp by yourself, but, when done, it's so satisfying. Back in the day, I did a lot of fencing, mostly barbwire, but some woven wire too. That new gadget to pull woven wire is awesome. Wish we would've had it back when I was doing fence. We had to use two boards with bolts run through them, and a couple old hasps to pull it.
I am so impressed with your progress. All of your friends have large families and so much help getting projects done. You are out there all by your self or with your Father in Law getting it done. If we lived closer I would be sending my hubby done to help.
Wow Jason, you are doing a fantastic job to be alone without help. It might take longer but look a what you’ve done. The fence should keep some critters from the homestead and your animals. Thanks for sharing your progress. Hope you and your family have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW . Watch out for the sink holes. Take care, be safe and GOD bless you all. Bye for now from ALABAMA ❤
The fence is looking good. With the water splashing out of the hole there is a good chance you have a underground spring. When we put up our fence in the southwest corner one of the holes we dug with the tractor and auger was half full of water as soon as we pulled the auger out. We have a underground spring up there.
When dumping soil now you know where to dump it aim for sink hole over the fence and at the drainage way to build along sides. Heavy wire at the tops of fence will strengthen it. Go along when done and put more Staple nails at each wire square if needed.
Looks great you guys. Everything is coming together little by little. I've been watching from the beginning and it's so great to see what you've done and I've learned a lot too. I wish you a very Blessed & Merry Christmas!
Thank you Jason and Lorraine for another great year of entertaining and educational videos. I have followed you and the shop talk boys for a while and enjoy the podcast as well. Wishing your family, and Randy a joyous Christmas and an even more successful New Year.
I wonder if you could put together some sort of culvert system to redirect the water from that sinkhole to a pond placed where it makes the most sense. You could maybe bury it somewhat and still have access to the property line and mowing.
Jason I know you get a lot of tips and comments on tips, but here are a few observations from a fence builder. Where you are at you can dry set your posts. Just tamp it some and by the next day it will have drawn enough moisture to set up. Or just pour the water in the top of the hole and it will set up. That will save you some time. Also it would help your fence if you had your stretcher out past your end post. Maybe stretch off of your truck bumper. I know some places that is not possible but it will make a cleaner look at the end where you can. I don't know how much those brace pins are costing you but a 10 inch timber loc structural lag will do the same thing and it is a lot less labor. Hope this helps. Some people say my advise is worth what you pay for. Lol
I wish I could afford one of those nifty fence stretching devices...till then I use 3 ratchet straps...top, middle and bottom...worked great for me, your milage may vary. YMMV 😎 STOC
What about a Swale or level ditch on contour to capture the water and move it to an other area where you can build a pond/dam??? Gives you the chance to plant out the high side of the banks with fruit and nut trees...
What a job. That is hard work especially when doing it alone. A lot of work. I remember in my youth assisting dad with things and no way could I even assist now! Great job and boy it sure looks amazing. You've got a lot to do yet but that's part of the pride and achievement. Stay blessed and wishing you and your family a very Happy and Successful New Year! God bless all!
You mite b able to weld that old gate,(something Johna Rhodes can do) n use it another way , like as part of fencing far off n out of normal sight so every part looks good, part of chicken or sheep/goat area, or to confind wood chips , compost, ect. Like to confine cut firewood pile
Also try laying that roll of fence on the ground and roll it along. Yes you have to pick it up some times but it will roll most of the time far easier than standing out to and rolling it out. Like that stretcher bar btw. Haven't found one here in FNQ yet.
Many old homestead farms could easily have old wells, old root cellars, old storm cellars, old outhouse pits around the property.
Even old old family cemetary plots.
Just look out: a sinkhole can be very dangerous and can even be more than 30 meters deep.
Hint , Install a 10 foot gate centered on the sinkhole that will open INTO your property so you can respond to any future problems with the sinkhole ! Don't fence yourself off from the sinkhole !
Love seeing the progress. As someone who does most tasks alone, it’s good to see what others can do without a whole lot of help.

Rocks and Wood chips, look like a good idea 👍🏻
Hi, Jason! The fence is coming right along. Your persistence is commendable. Merry Christmas to you, Lorraine, and Penelope. I loved the magazine article.
It is good to see utubing, homesteader types reusing and repurposing things, materials, and supplies previously used or new scrap.
300' and still maintaining the farm AND high tunnel build. You should be very happy with your progress.
Great job Jason . . . smiled at "don't do that" nothing like a solid fence around your property. Cheers.
I Cackle😂 Everytime I see when Jason run against the fence testing the tightness and bounce off like WWE WRESTLING 😂😂😂😂
The solashing mud in that hole is what would happen to me lol. 😂😂 Youre a hard worker Jason. You got your whole life to work on your property, Im sure you will accomplish A LOT!
Love watching your progress and the way you tackle your issues. Merry Christmas to you and your family

@mikejohnson753 I love the old farmer quote. 😊♥️ I wrote it down so I won't forget it. Merry Christmas. 🦌🎄🦌
Can’t wait to use all I’ve learned from you on our homestead one day ! Happy Holidays to your family 🎄🎁♥️

Another 100' victory. Y'all have done such great things on the property. I really enjoy Sow the Land👍🏽
Love seeing the progress one determined, persistent man can make.
I admire you and your desire to work so hard for your family and your future. You should be very proud of yourself
It's so satisfying watching the progress you make each video. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family! 🎄

Once you get your fence up, you could get a Great Pyrenees or Standard Schnauzer which will secure the property from anything.

Wonderful. Looking good. Be careful, get someone to check the sink hole area. Don't want it to spread. Especially having livestock 😊
The fence looks great; thanks for sharing! Many blessings to all 🤗💕🇨🇦
Love the "don't do this".. bits
One step at the time Jason! Blessings!
It is great when you can reuse stuff. We do that as much as we can too. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Not boring at all! I like watching you work and hearing your commentary 😉.
Two thirds of the gate looks salvageable. Maybe cut off the end thats rotted?
Thanks for showing how you do your fencing. That is something we need to tackle in the future. Trying to learn as much as I can. Have a blessed day!
Looking good Jason! you are checking off everything on that “honey do” list.
Way to hustle Mr. FenceMaster
🎄⛄🎄💞🎄
@janetwithers7424 Your comment is awesome‼️Merry Christmas. 🎄❣️
You are doing a great job for just practically yourself.
I learn more things watching your channel. Thank you!
Getting things done again, keep it up. Y'all got this.
Great work on your new fence! You always take great care in doing things the right way. Have a great weekend
Wow Jason, great job that looked exhausting! Congratulations on 300 feet!🎉🎉🎉

That stretcher thing is very cool.

Your videos are awesome about sticking to the homesteading content! We appreciate that! Merry Christmas!
You'll get there and it will be great!!!💖👍💖
Doing a marvellous job at chipping away at it Jason. 👍🏻
Stoked! Nice fence. Keep on keepin' on!
Doing good I miss the work I’m disabled not able to do much but love falling the channel
Jason you need a few more hands with that. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
Always do something. Thanks for the episode
I always toss scrub pine saplings in my wash areas. The limbs and needles catch eroding soil and gradually fill in the low spots.
Hi Jason. If you hired a wood chipper you could make wood chips and clean up some of that brush at the same time. That's a twofer.
I think the weaving of the field fencing was a good idea. It's looking good Jason, good job!
Good job Jason.
Looking great Jason!
Great figerin..ty..xoxo 👍 blessings to y'all in every way!!
Rocks better for hole they won’t have to be replace or add on more plus it will still be good for draining
That's hard work. Great job!!
Jason, If I wasn’t on the Left Coast I would stop by and help you.
Enjoying watching you make progress on the fence! 👏👏👏

I love the way you work so neat and precise 😃 ... and I THINK you showed this film before!
Your fencing is coming along nicely, and looks great!
Oh my! Be careful! You'll soon have a very nice fence! Bit by bit, that's how change happens! Merry Christmas!
Hello All & Merry Christmas to you all have a great time.
Good job!
From a new sub in Canada Merry Christmas Happy new year to you and family.
you got a cave jason!! time to go spee lunk ing
You seriously ace every single project you attempt💪🏽🤩🙌🏼

I try
Also try laying that roll of fence on the ground and roll it along. Yes you have to pick it up some times but it will roll most of the time far easier than standing out to and rolling it out. Like that stretcher bar btw. Haven't found one here in FNQ yet.
Merry Christmas!
