Nevermind the neck beards I think $1,000 is fair. This obviously isn't a car that can be fixed up for a day driver. I hope somebody has the time to properly restore it. I remember these cars when I was a kid they still look awesome today
It's a pity that the car is in the states. 1000$ is a joke, pocket money. I wish I could find a 3000 gt so cheap here in Europe. Good luck to the buyer.
Funny thing...I'm 45...i picked up my 1991 3000GT-VR4 the day i got my license back from an OWI in 1998...haha loved that car! Looks fast just sitting still and the technology was crazy then and even now. The front air dam would come down over 55 along with the rear wing spoiler raising over 55, 4 wheel steering, all wheel drive...craziness..
Do you have any idea what you are talking about? Yea, didn't think so. It's a VR4. It runs. It's worth a grand to people who love the GTO/3000GT. I myself hate that fucking engine, but yes - this is not some car you just scrap out. You build it back.
FYI, if you locate the stock boost controller, you can remove the reducer inside the upper nipple and then wham-o! 320 hp. thats the hp difference he was talking about in the beginning of the video. Or, just get an aftermarket one lol.
Do the right thing and scrap it before you kill someone trying to drive it home...it's worn beyond economical repair. The rat droppings in the vents alone is enough to get someone sick if not cleaned out properly. I'm almost certain the engine and turbos require a complete rebuild. Live and a learn...a scrap yard will give you about $500. Did you perform a compression test before dumping money in it? I don't remember seeing one in the previous videos. Don't be "that guy". You know what I'm talking about.
Just bought myself a Sl needs tons of work but I daily it glad to watch your roots parts are I hard where I am abroad but slowly very slowly shell get there..
for that price and what it is, this car would be a dream for a highschooler pursuing an interest in restoration and car repair. the body is decent, the turbo was working. someone just needs to tear the interior out and start fresh + a coat of paint... however I don't know the rarity of the parts.
The 3000GT VR4 looks great on black with brown windows tint. I seen one in person about a decade or so ago and it looked so exotic. Pretty close to the impression you get out of an NSX.
that problem could be caused by the ignition module. my 96 camaros ignition module died and it would not rev past 3000 rpm. try tapping on it with the car idling and if the car shuts down, thats your problem
Really enjoyed this series. Sorry to see it go. Could easily be the fuel filter. I would do a compression test on the cylinders, just to rule out engine wear with so many miles. Thought your oil pressure was much higher prior to replacing stuff. You were pretty lucky to find one that did not have a spun bearing. If someone was smart they would buy the car and continue the series. You have a crazy number if hits for just putting this out. Might be worth continuing just for that.
I almost bought this actual car too, but put money into my SVX instead. Let me see if I can post this up on one of their active FB pages and on the net a bit. Someone can save this and should.
Ok, It honestly is worth 800. But guess what. It's sold for 1000! You got a good deal. I'm 13, and I actually really like the way you cleaned up the engine. I do think that you cleaned up the engine enough where it looks not half bad. That clutch just made me throw up. But nice job with the project and getting it running! I would have liked to see it drive in the city but I understand that it took you that long. Congrats!
I imported a 1990 Cadillac coupe deville into Russia for around $3000(including import tax etc.) but when I bought the car, before all the taxes I payed $375 for it . Only a little over 2000 were produced and the one I bought had only one major problem, and that was the battery. It had new air conditioning, radio, tires etc. Why would a Mitsubishi with high miles, damaged interior etc. be worth $1000?
I live in south Florida, moved here from Edison NJ... I'd definitely take the car if u bring it to Florida... Won't be back up to jersey till December... If u still have it then, I'll definitely take it
i have two stealths 1 non turbo and the turbo model but recently the all wheel steering went out on the highway and sent me into the guardrail. ive been spending the better half of two years putting it back together... really a bummer.
People arguing over the price he asked is hilarious. Just price some of the parts under that car used or new. unless absolutely nothing mechanicly worked under the hood, then whoever bought that is or will be happy.
I love "these", cars not this one, I'm sure the videos haven't done it justice of how awful it is I can only imagine how quick you want to get rid of it, thanks for the spark plug video it helped, sorry if comment is bad for business I'm sure you will get a 1000 regardless I'll stay subbed
From the sound of that engine trying to rev up sounds you had a one or more blocked injectors. A physical removal and cleaning is the only way to fix that. Bad paint and 225,888 miles makes this a 500$ car. Who knows if the plugs will oil foul after it is able to drive or about the condition of the trans also. Hope the new owner restores it.
I like the car, been enjoying the channel, but that's a lot of cash given its condition even considering all the money you've invested. I hope you'll get what you need out of it. It'll have to be a local buyer.
This screams budget project. Ebay seat covers and shift knob, Plastidip the whole car, deep clean, and maybe a couple hundred in small parts. That said I would be scared about how it runs. That could be something small or a huge problem.
Would've liked to see it getting running en looking better, nice project car. I assume it's a (massive) air leak/leaks. I've experienced similar issues with the 2.5L 6A13TT mitsubishi VR4 engines I've owned. I've done a short video on easy boost leak testing on those engines (quite similar to these, just reversed distribution side). Hope the next owner will continue the project on youtube!
you can buy this and part it out easily for 3 times the asking price even with the issues. if youre buying it to make it run right then youll spend more than $3000 on it. the fact that is is idling , especially with how frustrating these cars are, is a huge chunk of time spent off of making it road worthy.
hmm odd advice from a 13 year old but take it to a shop and have them do the timeing and have them do the igniton system. The engines in them where knows for igniton issues but the timing should do the trick..And check your ignition coils too!
It does sound in the video like the car backfires when revving which is a sign for ignition problems not fuel problems so you might not be that far off with that advice.
hmm well as he said he did replace the fuel pump and got a new fuel tank (the fuel tank doesnt really matter) but tbh these cars where very cheap at the time and are a very big pain to work with often...Mainly because as you can see all of that engine space is taken up under the hood by compnents making it your worst nightmare..its a heavy runner. But keep your eyes peeled for also loss of compression and the aroma of fuel.(such as broken fuel line)
hmm wowie well lets hope hes not got a compression issue..and if he does..usually those cylinders..once they compression goes...usually means its time for new piston seals as they have probably worn over time...But indeed it could definitely be a lot of issues as he has said it had sat for a while...loss of oil pressure,Loss of fuel pressure (in the lines or the pump switches and wires) as for old sitting vehicles they can snap at ya with alot of angry problems or sometimes one little one xD (tbh Ik this sounds stupid but has he checked spark plugs and ignition coils? but pretty sure its time for some new pistons or piston rings or seals)
I do live closeby, princeton NJ, so maybe I'll come check it out. You paid way too much for it my man lol I thought it was maybe $300 considering the condition before you fixed it up
WHEN HE WAS PUTTING THE CAR ONTO THE CAR DOLLY, I SAY SMOKE, IM SURE THAT 3000GT WOULD BENEFIT FROM NEW VALVE SEALS!!! ONCE AGAIN, SIMPLY BY REBUILDING THE MOTOR, THAT VR4 WOULD DRIVE AMAZINGLY IF I OWNED IT!!!!
I bought my 300gt vr4 for 850 because it just wasn't my brother's thing he spent 4,000 on it and fixed a few minor thing put new tires on it and after all of it he was in 5,500
I have a 94 3000gt but electrical problems are to much I won't be able to fix it and it would be a huge help if you could sell it to me not worries about cosmetic problems
Sorry man, I already have one, and no room for another. Dammit. I really wish I could. Dammit. Who is the jackass that let this car get into this state? (I know it wasn't you, I've seen your other videos).
It really hurts my butthole I won't get to see this car turned into something nice.
I have a few things that are a little more interesting. I promise.
+APiDA Online ill buy it =)
Do you need TP FOR YOUR BUNG HOLE!?!?!
This is way interesting that another cars in the present now:(
Damn, I liked watching your videos for the 3000GTs. Go get another one once you get to Florida
yes please!
Agent WK I bought the car, check out my channel
Jursaw Lol I know. I commented a couple times on it. I said keep it coming with the vids
Agent WK Oops haha, just trying to get everybody to follow the build!
6 years later he got the 1999 vr4
All these people saying that car isn't worth a grand are idiots..
That car parted out is worth 2-3x that, a manual turbo 3000gt is rare.
Matt Bolton in good shape they are! Not as is
Nevermind the neck beards I think $1,000 is fair. This obviously isn't a car that can be fixed up for a day driver. I hope somebody has the time to properly restore it. I remember these cars when I was a kid they still look awesome today
I'll give u tree fiddy
Lol lol! It looks like the Loch Ness monsters car
It's the mass air flow sensor that's making it do that
It's a pity that the car is in the states. 1000$ is a joke, pocket money. I wish I could find a 3000 gt so cheap here in Europe. Good luck to the buyer.
Agree its very cheap knowing that only a certain amount of these were made and are extremely rare
Florida? WHY Florida? Sinkholes, hurricanes, 1,000,000% humidity, and mosquitoes the size of Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4's....
Always knew these sucked. I had the 300ZX in high school, an acquaintance had the 3000GT. The difference in build quality between the two is immense.
Only guys in their 40s will know how awesome this car was back in the day.
Hey now, I'm only 31½
I'm only 25 and just bought a Dodge stealth rt for 600 bucks. It is badass.
I owned 1,but they were too heavy, just like the Old Toyota Supra.
I'm about to be 28 and this is my dream and so glad I found a 91 vr4 and slowly fixing it to it's glory
Good luck selling that hooptie. Maybe Rudnik or the Haggard Garage crew might want it.
I don't think even Rudnik would want that piece
+John Parent look dipshit, not everybody is a mechanic.
+John Parent well it needs way more work then it would ever be worth. And it looks like a big problem that would just be a money pit.
Do you have any idea what you are talking about? Yea, didn't think so. It's a VR4. It runs. It's worth a grand to people who love the GTO/3000GT. I myself hate that fucking engine, but yes - this is not some car you just scrap out. You build it back.
I see now Jursaw bought your car. That's why his car looked familiar. It's amazing seeing him fixing that thing up.
Thanks man!
FYI, if you locate the stock boost controller, you can remove the reducer inside the upper nipple and then wham-o! 320 hp. thats the hp difference he was talking about in the beginning of the video. Or, just get an aftermarket one lol.
did you change the damn oil yet?
Yes.
hhaha i know right
Do the right thing and scrap it before you kill someone trying to drive it home...it's worn beyond economical repair. The rat droppings in the vents alone is enough to get someone sick if not cleaned out properly. I'm almost certain the engine and turbos require a complete rebuild. You know what I'm talking about.
that was the first thing when I found this channel becuz I was googling around those vr4s.
3rd World Garage If I was him, I will at least say this car need to be towed. and drive at your own risk.
Yes, I did a compression test. Droppings were cleaned out and interior was steam cleaned. This is a project needing work, and the price reflects that.
That's exactly what I said.
If you can't figure out that it is not currently drive able, then you deserve everything you get.
wish i had watched sooner. favorite dream car
Your 710 cap is upside down. Thats your problem.
Wtf $1k? That's what I paid for my 3000GT SL with a blown headgasket
Shishizurui I bought it and this was my dream car ever since I was 6

Nice Price or Crack Pipe?
best I can do is 9.99
Why buy a totaled Aston Martin vantage with no engine when you could get this mint 3000gt instead?
Mint? You've been watching haggard videos lol
I was saying mint before i seen haggard, before even car vlogging was a thing
Ok, It honestly is worth 800. But guess what. It's sold for 1000! You got a good deal. I'm 13, and I actually really like the way you cleaned up the engine. Oh it's gonna suck to have to go through people bullshitting in these comments 😬
Well fuck, I wish I saw this video when it came out
Zadex same here
Zadex Buy it off me hahaha
Tempting tbh lol
Right
this is a really rear and good car u should hold on too it man its an amazing car.
I imported a 1990 Cadillac coupe deville into Russia for around $3000(including import tax etc.) but when I bought the car, before all the taxes I payed $375 for it . Not relevant to this, but what's the current story with your Lexus SC300??
At least Mitsubishi did good with this V6. People with old 300ZXs are scrapping the V6 Vg30 for LS1s.
People arguing over the price he asked is hilarious. Just price some of the parts under that car used or new. unless absolutely nothing mechanicly worked under the hood, then whoever bought that is or will be happy.

damn, how I missed this. I've been looking for a$1000 vr4. and I live in Florida. I would have came up and flatbed it home. oh well life sux.
Hope the new owner restores it.
that car is like christine from the movie. it picks its owners and it doesnt like you because it would have repaired itself
Aw, shame to see it go. Was looking forward to seeing you transform this back to (some of) it's former glory
Im here in 2018 ...tavarish was sponsored back then... Good to see the changed tavarish 4.0
if someone bought this and is doing a full bare shell strip restoration, engine rebuild etc the lot fair play to ya
I would have liked to own this car, but I'm from even further away than Florida...Trinidad & Tobago. Shipping would be a killer..
I like the car, been enjoying the channel, but that's a lot of cash given its condition even considering all the money you've invested. I hope you'll get what you need out of it. It'll have to be a local buyer.
Cars in my country are so fucking expensive (RHD FTL)... I'd have paid $1,500 for this car in a heartbeat.
This screams budget project. Ebay seat covers and shift knob, Plastidip the whole car, deep clean, and maybe a couple hundred in small parts. That said I would be scared about how it runs. That could be something small or a huge problem.
Damn dude, thats a bummer. Good luck with the sale and the move.
If I had a free week I'd hop on a plane, scoop it up and drive it back to Seattle
looks like you have a boost leak somewhere. have the same problem with my 89 tbird sc
I always had a soft spot for that color vr4.
see if the new owner will continue where you left off and post video updates too!
I payed 3500$ for a Renault Twingo and now I feel like an asshole
I wonder (in January 2020) how this car is...did it ever get restored by the new owner?
you can buy this and part it out easily for 3 times the asking price even with the issues. if youre buying it to make it run right then youll spend more than $3000 on it. the fact that is is idling , especially with how frustrating these cars are, is a huge chunk of time spent off of making it road worthy.
I feel bad for whom ever bought that car,, it was worthless.. You dont pick a 3000gt with 225k miles that was neglected and abused to restore..
Don’t forget where u started :)
Hey you liked my modern rat rod idea! Nice. Too bad no time. XD
hmm odd advice from a 13 year old but take it to a shop and have them do the timeing and have them do the igniton system. The engines in them where knows for igniton issues but the timing should do the trick..And check your ignition coils too!

Everyone knows that flooring it to hit the rev limiter fixes all the issues.
I think we all want updates on the cars you sold before you moved out of NJ
Shame, these videos have been great. I subscribed with the first one. Good luck.
Good luck in Florida! Sucks to see a local guy leave.
If you say this car aint worth shit you aint worth shit this car is literally the shit only true car guys know
I think 800$ is fair for this car, I mean you dont see these cars anymore, its not in great condition but please dont scrap this car.
FrendS-PlayZ I don't plant to scrap this car
I resolved an issue similar to this by replacing a blown capacitor in the computer.
I would check a crank/cam sensor.
hi enjoy watching your videos....enjoythe practical approach you bring to the hobby
dude nooooo!!! we want more repair videos!
Ugh. That interior is basically a tear out and throw away. Once mice get into it, it's not salvageable.
Don't mind the small mouse
I know this is an incredibly lowball offer, but if you haven't sold it in a week, I'll take it for 200
no
wow what a crazy low ball offer! jeeze!
NOW WE'RE TALKING! :)
+APiDA Online ill give you 500 bucks.
If u haven't sold it yet, i will happily give u $1,100 cash for the car. That car is well worth over a thousand
If I had the chance I would have at least checked it out for a thousand. vr4s are very hard to find for cheap where I live.
did you ever sell this?
I think its a fair price knowing these cars are extremly rare i would come up on it but im from california i always wanted one to
Yea I am thinking the same thing! In Cali this would be a steal
+Curren Carlsen hell yea this would be a still and you would get alot of attention because not alot ate in cali either
You can have mine
I have a 93 vr4 I'm doing head gaskets right now live in ohio so tempting to buy this for only a grand
my buddy had a 91 and he also got ride of his due to crankshaft problems and some internal issues
Freddy the kind of dude to plan a huge fmic on a car that runs like ass.
i almost bought one of these but i found a datsun 280zx 2+2 for a better price. still would love to get one for a true race car
I do live closeby, princeton NJ, so maybe I'll come check it out. You paid way too much for it my man lol I thought it was maybe $300 considering the condition before you fixed it up
For anyone trying to follow this build on youtube, I bought this car from him and you can view it on my channel. Thanks
If you can line up David Tracy as a co driver/mechanic I will fly over from CA and drive it back.
WHEN HE WAS PUTTING THE CAR ONTO THE CAR DOLLY, I SAY SMOKE, IM SURE THAT 3000GT WOULD BENEFIT FROM NEW VALVE SEALS!!! ONCE AGAIN, SIMPLY BY REBUILDING THE MOTOR, THAT VR4 WOULD DRIVE AMAZINGLY IF I OWNED IT!!!!
the problem is the coolant sensor my 3s had the same prob
Sweet, what part of Florida you moving to? Now I can buy you a beer!
Elizabeth!?!? I'm in hillside. Didn't know you was so close
My Supra is doing the same thing after revving it up. I'm trashing the motor (~140k on the engine (2jzge) and getting a 2jzgte. Here's 15k.... fix it!
$200 you got a deal
I bought my 300gt vr4 for 850 because it just wasn't my brother's thing he spent 4,000 on it and fixed a few minor thing put new tires on it and after all of it he was in 5,500
To Florida you come! where in? SWFL here.
I really wanted to see what it would become ...
You can. I bought it, check out my channel
these old ones are so cute :D
btw it has a bad maf or bad vac leak
I have a1994 Mitsubishi GTO/3000GT I hate to see cars like this in this kind of condition
I have a 94 3000gt but electrical problems are to much I won't be able to fix it and it would be a huge help if you could sell it to me not worries about cosmetic problems
email me with details if you're serious. Asktavarish@gmail.com. Thanks.
+APiDA Online where are you located I have cash period I want it
hope this is more reliable than David Tracy's accord
bummer, I'd buy it if I wasn't 1000 miles away :-/
Sorry man, I already have one, and no room for another. Dammit. I really wish I could.
Dammit.
Who is the jackass that let this car get into this state? (I know it wasn't you, I've seen your other videos).
