    This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has been updated for 2022, making this small crossover more mainstream. Mitsubishi added more rear legroom and expanded cargo space than the outgoing model. It’s 140 mm longer and the rear overhang has increased by 105 mm. The rear design has undergone a facelift switching from a split-window to a non split rear lift gate. Powering the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a 1.5L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine matched with a CVT with super all wheel control, it has 152 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The Eclipse Cross utility vehicle is larger than the small RVR and between the new Outlander compact utility, making this a unique size. The new rear design will make it more agreeable to a wider number of buyers. The interior has also been updated with an 8-inch touch screen infotainment display with conventional volume and tuning knobs, gone is the track pad volume control found on the last model The interior is nicely finished with solid materials and the top trim we have here has nice feeling leather seats. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross competes with the Subaru Crosstrek, Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V to name a few.

    Mitsubishi definitely punches above its weight. My wife bought an Outlander in 2006 and a friend of mine, who is an aerospace engineer looked it over- he was super impressed with the design, the suspension, the quality of the interior switchgear, and fit and finish. That car went through 5 years of use with us, and my daughter drove it for another 5 years before a wreck took it out of commission. Mitsubishi really has the quality part nailed down and we loved all the extra features it had at a lower price than the competition.

    We have owned 6 Mitsubishis now and 5 friends and 2 family members own them as well. We have had a 15 Mirage ES, 16 Outlander Sport GT, 17 Mirage G4 SE, two 19 Eclipse Cross SEL Tourings, and a 21 Mirage SE. all purchased brand new. We now own the one 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL Touring with S-AWC and the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage SE. My Dad owns a 2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SE with S-AWC and loves it. I personally loved the split rear window on the 2018-2020 and was the reason I liked it so much was that it looked so different.
    We always buy new every few years and since we switched to Mitsubishi in 2015 we have never went back. They cant be beat for the reliability, features, warranty, and just overall owner satisfaction. They use time tested and proven powertrains vs updating every couple years which I prefer. They do not get the recognition they deserve in the USA and once people own one they love them. Looking at most Professional Car reviews on the Eclipse Cross or say the Mirage would scare people away and that is a total shame because once you drive one or look at the owner’s satisfaction and owner reviews its a whole different story. We love Mitsubishi and have had no issues.
    I think the updated Eclipse Cross and the all new Outlander will hopefully gain Mitsubishi the attention it truly deserves. My friend had her 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage (got new in Nov 2014) 5 and a half years and had not one issue and traded it on a new 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE (got new in early 2020) and then traded it on a 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE lol. My friend Kay and I will only buy Mirages and we have each owned 3 lol and just love them!!! A girl that works next door has a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer with close to 200,000 miles on it and has had no issues just regular maintenance and several CVT fluid flushes. They are great cars and once again use time tested and proven engines and platforms and do not change things constantly which in turn gives them strong reliability. Thank you Mitsubishi.

      Im on a budget and looking at 2019 cross awd. Im looking for reliability #1. I dont need bells and whistles. I need it to be saf and not break down. I keep my cars around 10 years. Thank you for your honest onput!

    • @kmckenzie2461
      @kmckenzie2461 2 года назад

      @@climbybimby They really are good SUVs. Mitsubishis are very good in general for reliability. We have owned 6 Mitsubishis. Plus the 4B40 engine 1.5L 4 cylinder turbo in the Eclipse Cross is based on the 4A9 engine from Mitsubishi which is an older design time tested and proven so by updating that engine they came up with the Eclipse Cross 4B40 engine. So its more reliable and simple for a turbo and will last and is based on a proven engine design.
      I recently went back to a new Mirage (have owned 3 Mirages now) and got a red 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage SE and traded my blue Eclipse Cross on it. I love small cars and have a sweet spot for the Mirage line. We still have our red 2019 Eclipse Cross and my Dad bought a black 2020 Eclipse Cross SE. He loves his too!

    With their new design, Mitsubishi sends the message that it means business. The products have had a good reputation over the years in terms of quality and the EVO was a hot awd sports sedan that was doing well in a rallye. You are right that the Mitsubishis tend to be overlooked now. Yet the Pajero was popular in the 90s. Nice review Andrea and Zack, thank you.

    We went from a 2014 Toyota Rav4 to a 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (Black Edition) and absolutely love it. Power is great, Fuel economy is slightly better than the Rav4 and it has a quality feel about it. Zero issues after 2 years of ownership. PS we prefer our back end , that brake light that goes across the back window actually blocks headlight glare from vehicles behind you at night . Are your MPG numbers Per US gallon because on long highway trips we regularly get 33 MPG Imperial .

I had never considered the Eclipse Cross. We had an RVR GT and loved it. I wish the Eclipse Cross did the same thing as the new Outlander and offered the PANO sunroof on LOWER trims other than having to GO ALL the way to the top. Sigh. I love the look of this thing but at least here in Canada if I am not mistaken, the TOP end Eclipse is almost $3K more than the Outlander (one up from base that has the PANO) and you get a bigger vehicle with the new Outlander. Sigh, decsions.

      I agree with all you said except it being good the Outlander comes with a Nissan powertrain. Mitsubishi over the years has demonstrated a lot less premature JATCO CVT8 issues than Nissan. I believe it's because their programming and specs are different versus Nissan's CVT8. Mitsus tend to be underpowered vs Nissan which translates to less strain on the CVT.

    One of the things I think is missing is those standard driver assistant tech seen in Toyota, Honda, and Subaru. That would make Mitsubishi's offerings a bit more appealing. You can say Subaru and Mitsubishi are both small auto manufacturers and could compete with each other given the standard AWD systems. What Subaru has for them is the standard Eyesight while if you want that driver assistance in Mitsubishi, you need to pay more by going to the higher trims, almost top trim from what I remember.
