    Thank you for your detailed analysis of these products. I live in Scotland where due to lack of maintenance on our roads,this has resulted in an ever increasing number of potholes. As a direct result of this, motorists are dodging potholes, with the poor cyclist very often having to take evasive action to avoid being struck by a vehicle. Furthermore we are viewd as a hindrance with very little regard to the idea of sharing space on the road. My point is that due to the aforementioned, respect for the cyclist is diminishing rapidly and as result frequently as a daily committed cyclist I am exposed to inconsiderate, careless or downright dangerous driving on a more frequent basis, than i have ever encountered. I have been cycling over 30 years. Now after resisting for some time, I appreciate I need some coverage in video format to negate denials of wrongdoing, where wrongdoing is blatantly obvious. Keep up the good work and stay safe on the bike.

    Thank you Bike Shop Girl. This has been very informative. However, the feature which I think is needed is an integration of the 12 front camera and 6 rear camera, so what when downloaded to PC, one has an integrated/synchronized side-by-side rear/front view. When a driver does an aggressive close pass, you want to see how he/she came up on you and then how he/she closed the door on you after the pass.

    I ride a vintage bike that I bought it for $200 and these two cameras cost $558 at the time of this posting. They should make these two cameras around SeeMee DV's price range to make it affordable for an average bike rider. A new manufacturer, maybe.

    There are a lot of video on bike specific cameras, I have recently stopped motorcycling in favour of cycling and I have taken my motorcycle dashcam to my bicycle. It has a USB input so requires just some wiring in and a usb battery OR a dynamohub with a usb adapter and a stationary capacitor, thats my setup.

    Looking forward to the tests and results video! I use a camera for every ride, but unfortunately Garmin has discontinued the Virb Elite. It is perfect as a bike dash cam because it also doubles as a cycling computer (tracks and live display of GPS, speed, distance, cadence, HR, etc). It is the perfect little product that I haven't been able to find an equivalent of.

    I do not currently use a bike dash cam, but do use an action camera for much of my rides, which usually range between 1 - 8 hours. I do video my rides regularly for content creation, so I already use an insta360 OneRS with 1" Leica. I have also committed to a solution that documents my rides better from a safety perspective, and at the same time enhances my 'b-roll' footage for content creation. I will certainly watch your future vids on this as it is an interesting topic to learn more about. At the same time, you have already provided so much good info here I have already decided to pass on Cycliq. Limited battery capability to only good temps, foregoing the light or lousy video resolution at 135d - strike one. Internal, non-removeable battery - strike 2. Inadvisability of usb charging at same time as recording - strike 3. The combo of these 3 are simply a no-go for me. I am looking at a 360 cam for this purpose, and specifically the Insta360 X3 or OneRS w/ 360 mod. There may be some hassle with loop recording or other features, but a super big SD card should handle that. Thinking about mounting left side of bike with a magic arm - above seat/rear rack height and off to side a few inches. Figure this will give me good coverage front, back, and left, and decent coverage to my right to record any vehicles pulling out in front of (or into) me from the right. Not the most elegant mounting setup, but since my cycling gear doesn't include lycra 😀 you might guess my lack of concern for speed, weight, aesthetic, etc. And holy cow, one good 360 cam with multiple uses for less than the price of 2 marginal cameras? I generally appreciate it when a company does 1 thing and does it better than anyone else. Make a good dash cam. Make a good light. Make a good action cam. It looks like this category is still looking for a best in class when a 360d action cam appears to do more for less.

    • @BikeShopGirl
      @BikeShopGirl  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the input! Im super interested in the footage, and ease of use. I agree with you on the X3 or RS.
      My current feeling is if I wanted one camera, would it be the RS with 360 mod on my helmet? It would catch both directions and go with me on my helmet instead of needing to remove it.
      The battery life, size, incident protection, and quick removal is what have really stood out on the cycliq but if the battery or footage sucks then they aren’t worth it!
      I need to get through some of these reviews first before buying another camera!

      You must be getting your insta360 cheaper than me: in the UK an insta360 and bike mounting is £575 (about $700) so it’s way more expensive 😢)

    • @graveldoov2215
      @graveldoov2215 Год назад

      so I like the action cam Idea but you can' t get near the run time of these CYCLIQ with a INSTA360 or GORPRO. or am I wrong?

    • @midwesturbanfarmstead
      @midwesturbanfarmstead Год назад +1

      @@graveldoov2215 Not sure of the specs, but I'm guessing you're probably right on the runtime with the internal battery being better on the cycliq than any action cam. The deciding factor for any cyclist would be the type of bike and riding one is doing, and the primary and secondary purpose of any video. If one is a roadie with a concern about weight/aero (i.e. speed), the cycliq may be better if it has a better runtime. As a touring rider where none of these is a concern form me personally, I carry a usb-c battery pack that provides a continual power source for my insta360 action cams. And since I also document my rides, as in making documentary videos, the video quality of the action cam is superior to something like a cycliq. And all of this is moot if one rides an e-bike for 'shorter' distances on utility rides, as the run time or weight doesn't come into play so much. It comes down to what your primary purpose and kit is. Shorter rides, lighter road bike, faster speed means something different than a utility ride (transport) needing video to document car interactions or a touring ride that may want to both document rides for safety and produce video content for others. This is why I love watching @bikeshopgirl, since she seems to cover a riding style and purpose that is quite different than other road cycling channels - both utility riding and content creation while riding. I sincerely hope you find the right solution for the cycling you do!.

    Does the phone app record from both front and rear cameras, or does it only control both? I was hit by a car (shattered femur - 2 years recovery) and if I ride again, I will have both front and rear cameras. I would like a system that records both cameras like my automobile system. However, individual cameras that record separately would suffice since they could be time-matched. I am only interested in recording for protection, not content for publishing.

  • @EMTBonsai

    It is interesting in why they would install an alarm feature on the rear camera i think a radar or laser system would have been of more use as your no way in hell leaving this attached to your bike and walking away are you?! I definitely wouldn't and does it have a like IP cam if you did? for example if used it for this and have a rear camera recording whats going on and a possible theft to be able to wirelessly retrieve the footage? If not once its gone it's gone your not seeing that or the footage again so i think this could be replaced with something more for the road safety radar as the garmin one's pretty good! But thats just my 2 cents on this item maybe other's would leave it attached to a bike for no good reason that i can think of myself?!

    One other question that's prompted by something I saw in a Twitter or FB post somewhere...is there a hack that would allow the Fly12 (longer battery life, better camera) to be mounted to a seatpost? The person had mounted it somehow, then covered over the light. IF that's possible, it'd be practical to mount both it up high and a regular rear light of your choice right below it on the post.

    The biggest issue i have so far is working with the recordings. The android app is very limited -basically only camera/light settings. The company has software to allow strava overlays etc but only works on windows or Mac. I have neither.
    Trying to get windows in a VM to see the device via usb is proving to be a nightmare.
    At least i can take the sd card out and transfer files manually to edit, upload to YT, etc. But the user interface from the device itself is horrendous for a product of this price.

    Editing to add another question: How much stock would you put into the editing software if the footage isn't for sharing, RUclips, etc, but just as a CYA for crashes/psycho encounters? For something like the 360 you showed in a previous video, is that editing difficult to learn if you don't use it often?

The 1st unit had battery leakage, right from the start, brand new. Got a 1-1 exchange from local seller. Replacement unit went into death mode where the camera won’t stop unless a hard reset, multiple times. It’s a useless expensive paper weight. Lots of videos on cyclic failures.
