You always have the perfect solution to a problem! 👊👊. I LOVE what you did with the viburnum/snowball bush. They just are so messy looking after blooming and cleaning up the lower trunks makes it look SO much better! I am gonna do that this weekend. And Allen...the Annabelles and the Vitex!! 🤓🤓 If I could only have two plants...it would be those two. The beautiful lavender colors and the cream and chartreuse have always made me swoon. BUT not limiting myself to two...I have filled my patio containers with a couple varieties of Russian Sage, catmint and lavender, which I rotate out into the big gardens as their blooms fade, and what fun THAT has been this summer! The bees 🐝 !! Thank you for the knowledge and the passion you share with us!
I have been watching the UK series Great British Gardens with Carol Klein and bemoaning how little Americans understand about gardening. Rule 1: foundation plantings set the frame and backdrop for specimen plants, thereby magnifying their impact and beauty. HEDGES, people! Then I watched this video and was reminded that Allen is one of the few who gets it!! This is beautiful art.
Hello sir! I’m rewatching this episode from last year. I ordered my day lilies and peonies from GHW and planted them this past fall and looking forward to seeing them grow. I’ve grown so much in knowledge from your teaching and looking forward to more!
I like your humor & fun spirit! Gardening is not only peaceful, but fun & healing. Love your vids. 🌺 Grew my 1st hibiscus! Been in Kansas City 1 yr now & able to grow them here.
We have a new home and soon new garden! And we can’t wait to incorporate so many of your wonderful garden ideas and as always great knowledge. 😃💐💚💚💚💚💚💚
Love the Annabelle hydrangea. Creates a living wall along one side of my deck. The deer discourage planting daylillies & I find the Japanese beetles are attracted to the Gaura as ethereal as they look.
Love this. You're very lucky to live in a cool climate. A lot of this stuff doesn't do well in Houston, Texas, but I enjoy watching and hope one day I can live up there!
Really enjoyed this video. Loved your idea of growing lilies in pots. Easy to place around garden for spots of dazzle! Thanks for sharing your garden with us all👍💗
I love these kind of tours. So very informative and great tips throughout! I found a “Miss Molly” compact butterfly bush. I am so excited to plant it in my garden. Glad that it is a drawf one so it will fit right in. Thank you for introducing me to this beautiful shrub. My very favorite pink color too! 🌺🌺🌺
Thank you P. Allen. I came home from work longing for some garden time. Of course it is dark. But there you are with a new tour. I got my garden time! Love your use of Gaura, the movement in the wind. Like grasses, but more ethereal. And thank you for the subtitles. The Southernese of the Latin sometimes makes it difficult to look up your varieties.
I designed some pots for a friend, I used your, saying when I was suggesting flowers and greenery.."Spiller, filler, and thriller..I was sure to give you credit 😍😉🌞👍
I'm a beginner as of this season and have killed most of my container plants lol I have a black thumb. Watching your videos is a learning experience. Thank you
Annabelle hydrangeas send out runners/roots so that if you have any open ground you will soon have another shrub. I dug out five this summer. I only planted two. They also have roots that grab the soil like claws. I've never had a harder job removing a shrub.
Allen, What is the “rule”? Is it better to underpin the foundation planting colors and spread towards the curbing or property entry. Or start at the entryway toward the home. Which is most appealing? I have to work with plants that are successful in hot weather but tolerate frost. All lantana is tiring.Thank you.
There are pretty much wild Yarrow plants up in Big Bear, CA. When we scratch some of the petals of the white Yarrow flower, it smells like Bactine ( the older brand of topical Antiseptic) is the Yarrow used in this antiseptic spray...if you may know the answer that is, thank you.
Loving your channel . You share so much valuable information. I have a QUESTION about roses that were in the garden when we bought our home 3 years ago. They are sending out shoots from below the graft. I've been cutting them back but they keep coming. The graft is way above the soil. Would you direct me to where this problem is discussed? Thank you in advance. Gratefully. 🙏🕊
I have this plant, it's not hardy in my zone 6 so I keep in garage along with other plants and this was the only plant that was alive. Silly me was so excited I put it out too early and it looks bad. I had to return it to garage...hopefully it makes it..😥
🍃Thank you really good info! 🍃 I have Annabelle Hyd that get too heavy and fall over in June . How would you suggest I prevent that? And also the deer demolished mine this year 😑 any tips on keeping them away?! I plant purple cone flower in front of my Annabelles 🌸 Thanks again , for all the info 😊 I'll have to save this video in my folder *Note to self : Don't trim Azaleas back after July 1 *
I have a row of Green Velvet boxwoods and some of the leaves of those at the end of the row turn brown over the winter. This winter I am going to try using Wilt-Pruf to try to protect them. I am looking for any other suggestions.
Wow the garden is so beautiful.i don't have the words to say beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful pretty pretty pretty colors makes it look so bright bring all the colors together makes it looks so beautiful words can't express the hard work you do and look at the results OMG gorgeous .♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have a problem!! When I moved to my new house last year i found hydrangeas and at that time they where all full of flowers. I didn't know anything about hydrangeas at that time either that some bloom in old wood or new wood, so I cut them all the way back!!🙁 that same year in Fall. This summer I got only one flower !! In one hydrangea and the rest which I have 6 plants, I got none! NONE flowers!! Only one single flower out of all my 6 hydrangeas.!! I'm thinking my hydrangeas bloom in old wood. So I won't cut anything this upcoming fall!! But my question is!! Would they bloom next year for me eventhough I'm not cutting anything anymore??.Since I cut the bloom from all of them last year!!Now I'm also all the way in Chicago and I don't know if my hydrangeas are the right type ,because we have harsh winters. I have heard some people telling me that those types of hydrangeas in harsh winter even though they put growth in old wood in harsh winter will die all the way back to the ground and they'll come back next spring from the ground but won't produce any flowers for me. Is that trurh??? I would like to know because I really want to keep them and make them bloom!! But if it's necessary and won't bloom for me because of my zone. I will change them!! To the right type!! HELP PLEASE!!
"Presto" is right...and when the landscape crews tear thru shearing chopping those lovely hedges..there I am scooping up the cuttings to root and grow elegant luxurious shrubs that cost me nothing but patience. I may be poor...but never look like it in my garden. Lol
Hi Allen, do you have any ideea what happen with my Annabelles Hydrangea.? Is the second year that happens. The flowers disappear day by day until a point is left. I have a picture but I don’t know how to post it.sorry and thank you

Love it! ❤️👍🏻 What would be a good perennial for a large container in zone 6? A continuous bloomer would be great! 😀

If you put hydrangeas in containers do you need a certain type of potting soil?
I hope you be available for me when I need to extend my garden Mr Smith♥️♥️.

I remember you and victory garden on PBS
When you put them in the cold frame for winter, do you continue to water them?
I pretty much just let them be.
I cut my plant a few years ago and now the flower has not come back. What can I do to encourage them to bloom?
What do you feed your potted lilies
Awesome!!

just wanted to ask if you know what to do about orange fuzzy worms on my white blooming cherry tree? please help.
Thanks for the info and tour.
Hahaha..looks like she needed a bath.. Beautiful gardens!
I like that you don't sheer your Loropetalum. I'm surprised that you don't have many Japanese maples.
love this video ! what hydrangea would you suggest to put on a hill that is full sun?
I would suggest looking into panicle hydrangeas. Thanks for watching!
@@PAllenSmith Thank you Allen .
