I think the trousers are fine, but I agree that it would look better with socks.
personally, it depends on the occasion/time, like if it's casual or smart, if it's summer or winter.
I always wear loafers with a nice pair of colourful socks, to add a bit of fun.
The no sock trend just does not go away tho :p

The comments below are hysterical, literally. One would think the sky is falling because some men are wearing sockless loafers and high rise tight pants. First, remember that GQ is a fashion magazine. What they're describing is a trend, a trend that should be adapted and ALTERED to suit the age, build and profession of the wearer. If you're a young fit man in a profession that allows a certain freedom of expression in dress, then go for it. If, on the other hand, you're a middle-age guy in a more conservative environment then tweak your usual wardrobe to fit the prevailing style - a more natural shoulder, narrower pants, etc. Trust me the wide loose suit that a lot of guys wear these days is old fashion and seriously dated. Not a good look either.

Yet two years later it looks like absolute crap. Skinny jeans are the bell bottoms of our generation.
I don't remember seeing too many guys in wide loose suits, rather more fitted but not too tight and short. When the jackets are buttoned its straining around the mid section, and the pants are just way too tight and short. They might as well just wear yoga pants. ( another fashion trend that can't disappear too soon.)

That's not the point. If you are attempting a formal look you should not show your ankle. It is inappropriate and makes you look like a clown.

@@barcyorky no-show socks help when it comes to breathability of the shoes...we're not in 1700 anymore! plenty of people in Europe wear shoes with no-show socks and no one has ever made a fuss about it.

@Winter Till: you can wear invisible socks(also known as loafer socks), they work well during summer if you plan to go bare ankle.

Very, very bad advice. Naked ankle in business situation is just a no go. It's copying mindlessly from Italians. People forget what it mean to dress for occasion and place. Loafers and naked ankles are very casual. They only look stylish with a suit if you're Italian, sitting in caffe in 30C heat on a very sunny summer day. Shorts are for summer and beach. Cowboy boots are for cowboys.

Couldn't agree more. And also, if you're gonna wear a loafer with a suit, never have a tie. One button undressed is a must. You show skin at the ankles, you need to show skin at the neck.

You really should never wear any closed toe shoes sockless. That is the point of the no-show socks. I do think that the no sock look in an office would not be appropriate though unless it is maybe casual friday. But these looks are both nice and stylish.

I wear tod's driving mocs made up of croc. Skin 1700$ a pair .. And after wearing them i am never gonna look back at any cheap moc. shoes .. Believe me guys investing in a top notch quality pair is great investment and you won't regret. Never settle for anything less when it comes down to shoes .. Those croc. Mocs from tods is like a piece of jewellery and is a lifetime investment

Dollar store Loafers all lined up on the side. For your info there things called shoe tree. Also all 4 need better suits.

Besides providing comfort also has a key role in absorbing sweat of ur feet ,Which otherwise will ruin the leather in the long run.Also a good shoe tree won't break the wallet .Style but with little brain usage that's what cool!!!!

It’s also hard to find great loafers for those of us with wider feet...same as with properly tailored clothes. It’s either skinny fit or baggy/BS fit.
I have tried several brands of penny loafers and all have been tight in the shoe box area. Love them, but don't want to get 1 to 1 1/2 size larger. It would be like buying boats.....
Why do the suits on the models of GQ always look so odd? The lapel is thin, the pants are so short and tight, the jacket is tight. It looks like his little brothers suit.

It's what's trendy right now. If you're into trends and looking young and being appreciated by the young and trendy, you will wear these types of suits. If you don't care about trends, stick to the traditional suit fit, but don't come here bashing on those who like the trendy.

Thats your opinion. I however think that the short length makes this look amazing. Having longer pants with loafers doesnt look good at all imo. If you´re not wearing socks with the shoes then the rule is to wear shorter pants or tuck em up.

so many stupid comments. Loafers do not made for formal events. Classical design doesn't mean formal design. Also you can wear Loafers without socks when you go to job. Unless you have a really important biz meeting ( obviously, you don't have that kind of formal biz meetings everyday) Also, technically you don't (should not) wear sock when you wear Loafers. I would advise colourful socks with loafers, if you’re going to show off more sock, particularly when wearing black leather loafers I think it creates a great contrast of colour to wear red, green, pale blue even yellow socks

Honestly, I don't understand the hate for this style. All the men featured in this video are nicely dressed in my opinion, however, I do hope they're wearing no show socks. More than likely this is how business casual is going to look like in the future, and I personally like the look...
