My 12 year old grandson just got his 2nd full flight on this in 2 days. It flies amazing and the features are amazing! I easily recommend this for a beginner.
This is my first and only plane I have, zero experience and it flies amazing! I’ve landed the plain at least 12 times and lands incredible. I highly recommend it for beginners, my 14yr old and I are having a good time with it.
I bought this plane too as beginner and I have no problem. Even with a lot of wind it is really easy to fly! It seems that you crash the plane voluntarily. Just with the fact that you tried it in a stadium with poles... great idea for a plane that reach 80 km/h speed!... no more comments.
I was a noob ab one month ago, and I went to my hobby shop, bought the rtf version. Then I went home and built it with my dad and I couldn’t wait to go to the field down the street to fly the next day or so. When we got to the field I found the sequence to be very straightforward and I flew the whole time with safe mode on. It took off very quickly and had very dosile user friendly characteristics but I had a blast and didn’t you know, hit a pole or anything and it glides in for a landing really nicely. So, finally, with all due respect, have to say I 100% disagree with your hypothesis that this isn’t a good beginner plane. I also fly off my neighborhood ‘s small streets and even had it low cutout on me right over a backyard and the only thing broken was a prop, plus I smashed it into a roof, I broke the tail part same as you, but I used foam safe ca so it’s extremely solid now. I once got interference and my plane nosedived and again the prop and cowl are the only thing I’ve broken. I also hit a car and a pole later on but didn’t brake anything. So I believe that I’ll have to disagree with your other statement and say that it is extremely durable and believe me when I say this because I have put it through its paces. Have a good day.
You stalled it every time, this plane does not like stalles, if you had it in safe or intermediate it would have recovered, letting go of the sticks. So both crashes all your fault
This was my first plane. Had zero issues. Everyone talks about the gps in it being garbage. If you read the manual it tells you very clearly how to turn it off.
It’s not the planes fault you are incapable or unwilling to stay within that airplanes flight envelope. Going into “newb” mode at low altitude is specifically stated as a bad idea in the instructions. It’s a great flyer. You.....not so much. Cudos to you for blaming the airplane though.
its good if you have someone to teach you, but when i first flew an rc plane (volantex mini trainstar) it went straight into the ground, but it was ok because the trainstars are indistructable. a carbon cub would be broken, also you have to land it on your first flight and assemble it, although the assembly isnt hard it discourages begginers so overall i dont recommend this as a begginer plane
If the NTSB inspected the crash events they would attribute every bit of the damage to "Pilot Error". At least you can put all the electronics into another plane.
The sailors first time flying this was EXCELLENT------they were flying pretty high up there! I think you did not allow for correction and space to any impacts etc............Just saying no one else is crashing:(
Safe mode replicates how nubes fly planes! Come on man! I haven't even had a rough landing with that plane the few days that I have been a pilot. That plane is the easiest and the most enjoyable plane to fly, EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was my first plane. I joined a club and got trained using this plane and recently passed my solo test and became a pilot who could fly at the club on my own. Great plane. I learned to fly it without all the SAFE junk. No landing assist, no stupid GPS, all of that junk was turned off. Flys great.
Okay, opinions here. Hate it if you want. First thing, any maiden flight should start with getting as much altitude as possible to allow you to get comfortable. It is a lot more stressful at lower altitude. 3 mistakes high! Airspeed is life, altitude is life insurance. Second, it has safety features, use them! Turn them off progressively as you get used to the airplane so you don't crash... again and again... This airplane is almost impossible to crash if you know it well. My experience with scale cubs is that they strongly dislike stalls. They'll either flip over or spin, I wrote off and repaired my Flyzone Super Cub in a climbing stall. Still flying it to this day. Thirdly, a poor mechanic blames his tools. This airplane has next to no bad reviews. That says a lot... It would really help if you actually took the time to learn how to fly before getting into trouble at low altitude!
I plan to buy this plane. i use a DX9 and will download the setup from Spectrun for the DX9. I did that with my Sport Cub S and it is perfect. I didn't have to use the manual to manually setup my DX9.
Jeez Louise, hey I can get into a comedy video which is what this is but from what I'm seein', you'd be the last person anyone should actually listen to as far as a recommendation on an rc plane, lol. I'm aware that the camera probably makes the model appear farther away from you than it does to me but you tend to have more success flying a plane of that size doing 'racetracks' as in flying a rectangle with rounded corners with you at the center of the near straight away. That way you can judge your pitch better on those straightaways and you have fewer instances where you don't have enough airspeed. This plane you show clearly has some functions like the SAFE system and the GPS which aren't common to all rc aircraft so it's probably important to read the MANUAL a few times so you can understand those functions and you clearly haven't. I ain't an expert by any means but I've flown a trainer similar to the size in your vid, an F4U which is a challenge and an edf and that racetrack pattern seems to work much better than your experiences with this plane. It's totally ok to make your vids and have fun and such but when you are in a media format such as this, you have to know that a lot of folks who know nothing of the hobby might be watching your vids and taking advice from you when you really don't know what you're talking about.
My friend maidened his today, it went into GPS circle mode by itself and he couldn't get it off... was fighting the controls trying to land... hit a tree, it fights its way out of it, flys 20-30 feet straight into the ground, then the plane went full throttle went straight up and did a loop slamming nose first AGAIN into the ground... just wow these things are cursed.
Thanks for all the chuckles. You are unfortunately the classic example of failing to properly set up your aircraft, and then ignoring the potential for stalls. It seems underpowered, even for your 3s battery. Are you sure you didn't damage your motor in your earlier crash? The radical pitch up in SAFE mode means your elevator is severely out of trim.
your stalling it out on about half throttle you didn’t hold up elevator when you were turning so it’s naturally gonna lose altitude and you weren’t watching the plane you were messing with your transmitter also I’m a beginner and I can fly this plane very easy I’ve gotten in multiple flights, when you put it in quote on quote “noob” mode it’s gonna try to prevent stalls and you had the nose completely pitched up on like half throttle so it over corrected because it’s trying to stop you from stalling and you didn’t have enough power to recover from it so the nose weight sent you nose divining towards the ground. This plane is Farley easy for beginner personally I don’t use the gps mode because it’s pretty easy to fly without it and the plane is pretty forgiving depending on the flight mode you have it in and it glides very nicely, I would recommend this to beginners wanting to learn to fly 4 channel or more!
After practicing on the simulator for a few days I removed the flight controller on the plane and put a regular plane one and it actually flies great as a now skilled pilot lol the safe doesn’t really help you learn that’s the problem
What was the fix for when the plane was looking for GPS only to end up with one aileron up and one aileron down not the happy dance it supposed to do...I bought this plane and out of the box I haven't been able to get it pass the point of looking for GPS and ending up with one aileron up and one down
Hi Ravi! I wish I could tell you! I never did figure out why it wasn't going into Compass Calibration Mode the way it is supposed to according to the manual. The only thing I could think of was that maybe the trims weren't centered like they should have been (and I don't know if that includes sub trim as well).
i bought one of these for my first ever plane and its about the easiest thing ive ever flown... sorry you had these issues mate, im not sure its the plane though brother. i have a video some where of my first ever flight if you want to see it. seamless...
I went out and bought this plane just because I wanted to see if it's as bad as you say. I even put in a potenza 3s 2200mah 25c battery In it and to be honest if you cannot fly this plane in any of the modes without crashing I suggest maybe trying hand thrown gilders or maybe hobby rockets. I just gave this plane to one of the members of our flying fields grandson and hes actually learning how to fly with this plane. The only issue he has had so far is the battery hatch door.
i see here many are having the same issues as you did though reading through the comments... is this FC programmable? did you guys run the GPS setup? I want to try to understand whats causing these problems so we can help you guys sort it out
I bought one from a friend of mine that flies nothing but electric and he couldn't get it to fly Said it was to complicated. He and I took it over to the park and he read the instructions to me and we se it up and tried to fly it. First we couldn't get the prop to do anything but pulse. We found out you had to set the home position so we did. I took off and it kept flying in circles, in front of me and behind me. I finally cut the throttle and it landed in the grass, not at home, and broke the nose off. I glued it back on and took it to another field and had someone help me and we got it flying, again in circles behind me. I cut the throttle and landed it. Later I flew it twice more and still not right. The next day I took it out and could not get the prop to rotate at all. I am going to box it up and send it back to Horizon and see if they can repair it so it will function properly. Three wise men have looked at it and they are as confused as me.
There are 2 structural weak points the nose cone being 1 the second is the end of the fuselage just past the last hole on the bottom side ...I found that if I hot glue 5mm carbon rods on the bottom its stronger than the factory and the nose cone same again ..it is quite a fragile plane .I totally wrecked my first rtf then got the bnf so I now use the original one as a Dona Happy days Keep Flying Brian London
I know, it's weird, right! But many people have commented that they had a very similar experience to mine. I think some of it depends on the type of pilot you are and you're expectations for this plane... but also the plane seems to have some issues as well sometimes.
@@RCwithAdam1 yeah it's odd. I wonder if this happens with the rtf that comes with a radio or these issues crop up when binding to another. It shouldn't but I'd be curious when the spastic dives pop up for people. I've flown with the smart system on other planes but used the controller they came with. Was going to get this one but makes me hesitant.
@@planestomp I had no issue transferring it from my dxe to dx8, I also learned with this plane and still have it to this day! It has gone through a lot, I truly thing the pilot just screwed up on the binding process. One issue i had was the gps, i just unplugged the module, its the most aggravating thing in the world
@@offroad5594 LMAO 🤣 yeah I can understand that being a problem, do you really see double? Because I do too when it's far away and my friends asking why am I flying so close hahaha. Happy flying dude 🤘
Try a apprentice 15s e I have never flown before flew 3times now no complications flies great stable even in slightly hi winds almost lands it’s self in safe mode
Think you my have messed the gyro up in the first crash. When you switched to beginner mode the gyro no longer knew where it was at relative to the orientation of the plane
Like your style and humour lol. Great looking plane and well done with your final landing. Thinking of getting one. Cheers liked and subscribed. Cheers:)
Have to check connections after crashes I have had control wires from reciver/ flight controller come loose not off and have it do crazy shi*. But over all tons of fun to fly and horizon hobby will give you tons of tech support if needed
@@RCwithAdam1 i watched a few of your videos and you have the right attitude for this hobby, and genuine reactions. The light pole.... Man we all have that moment of just.. Super relatable. Keep it up and ill keep watching.
@@RCwithAdam1 also if you want a truly great flying plane the eflight sukhoi 29mm is amazing. I think with 30% rates and 55% expo even a beginner could fly this plane.
Flying balsa planes before. And flying this thing feels like a walk on the beach, this thing is so easy to fly almost too easy. I used a Dsm2 dx6i the older version for this plane, you just basically stalled it. And noob mode you need altitude and calibrate everything before flight.
Had my carbon cub flying today then for no reason it dropped like.a brick nose first into the turf just like yours did on this video it just dropped .did you find out why yours dropped .the thing is if you cut the motor it just glides but not today ???????
@@RCwithAdam1 it's very strange as I said if your Flying and chop the throttle it's glides like a bird .it's as if it goes into lemming mode .but just brought another one and I've got loads of spares from the old one . Brian London I'll let you know how it goes
You should also probably fly it with the controller comes with saying that’s literally designed for that plane and it actually worked extremely well I flown mine for three years everything I’ve had to replace is props and batteries that’s it no mechanical issues yours diving is because you had no power whatsoever you were into the wind assuming you stalled out and try to re-corrected and it fell out of the sky
You said when you set up the safety mode that you didn't think it was right, and orientation of the airalons was completely wrong so as soon as you activated safe mode during the flight it didn't stand a chance. I've seen a few vids and I think the set up seems a bit confusing and very involved especially for a beginner but if you want a plane with so much technology then it will need setting up correctly and it's probably best done by someone who already has a bit of knowledge about it to start with. Kind of a catch 22 situation.
Hmm, I wonder if your issues may be directly tied to using the 6i. I notice that the 6i is NOT listed as a recommended controller. I also noticed that you don't have the channels set up as directed and are not taking the time to calibrate the electronics suite. I've been flying the non-SAFE version for over a year and the only time it crashes is when I do something stupid. Looking forward to the maiden of the Cub S+ tonight. Who knows, I may be back here tomorrow eating my words.
Alright, maiden is finished. Flew like a champ. That said here are a few things to be aware of. The manual is WRONG about how to configure your transmitter! if you follow the directions in the manual you will end up with your flight mode tied to your trainer/bind button and your GPS circle/autoland tied to your flaps switch. GPS sync takes FOREVER. The aileron issue you show in your vid means it is having issue with your radio signal which may be causing the crashes. None of the auto features work under 20 feet an you fly really low. But the kicker, and I suspect the cause of your crash here, is that when it goes to the virtual fence, pattern flight, or auto land it's first turn is a sharp bank and yank that loses 20+ feet of altitude. Couple this with the messed up directions in the manual and I suspect that you actually switched to autoland or pattern when you tried to go to noob mode. Now that I've tried this with the full feature set and the basic park zone one, the park zone is better, but this would take the lead if it was only safe without all the GPS crap.
Dang man I love mine I’ve had nothing but good luck with mine but you are right it’s definitely not a beginner and also thanks for your help on the radio set up
Sorry for Maiden Flight 2...the crash sequel. got a brand new one but awaiting some missing screws to finish assembly. I've owned a 3-channel Super Cub S (a true beginner plane, thankfully) for a year and I agree even never having yet flown the Carbon Cub S+, this is not a beginner plane. Owners Manual is lacking, and as you say, 'too much to remember'. But as it is my 2nd Cub, I'm looking forward to it. I will however, be shutting off GPS at the outset - never had it, and don't need its 'complicated benefits' as I get to know how this puppy flies.
I ran a good take off on mine in beginner mode did three turns self leveling then right in front of me it just nose dived. no reason . in beginner mode from the start .
so i know its been a long time since you posted the video but i just literally put mine together last night and then had it working with a upgraded transmitter. now i have watched several videos. and read each instruction manual and either im just retarded and cant read or i missed something some where. my plane did the exact thing yours did. I was in Noob mode and the wind was taking me so i wanted to switch to the next mode to get a steeper bank. and YES i was too low but the flight before that the plane was flawless. it was when i went to switch modes it went out of control. so im waiting on glue and then im goign to try and fly it with with the stock transmitter..... see what will happen so in my opinion the plane was great. the inter face with the DX6e and programing that to the plane is at least my issue..... like i said the first flight was great and i have never flown a RC plane ever... im going to have to get with some one in the area that knows what there doing to help me program the upgraded transmitter. i wanted to run flaps as well in my research you could not do that with the stock transmitter. how ever i did find a video after the purchase where the gup actually got the stock transmitter to run the flaps
I have had mine less than a month and had a lot of the same problems, nose dived and broke the fuselage right behind the wings... maybe expert mode was a bit premature for my self 🙈
Read the manual then read it again and then read it again , if you don't have the switch's in the right sequence and don't do the compass orientation and have the height for a gps landing your asking for trouble , I beleive you should have flown it in gps safe mode and let the plane do its wiggle waggle thing until you got used to flying it
Well I haven't flown in 37 years and I love this plane. My buddy's threw there bs card down on I haven't flown in a while they think I'm an expert Flyer. I think your controller isn't set up right
I plan to buy this plane. i use a DX9 and I will download the setup from Spectrun for the DX9. I did that with my Sport Cub S and it was perfect. I didn't have to use the manual to manually setup my DX9.
looks to me like you've got your transmitter set up backward.. ie.. switch for beginner/intermediate/advanced is reversed. and/or you didn't properly calibrate on startup.. either issue is easily remedied.
I disagree This was my first plane ever and I have never crashed it and landed on its wheels every time. I do not keep it in a safe mode but having said that, I have been flying Drones for a few years (check out my channel) You need to understand that altitude is your friend If you are not going to be flying in safe you should fly high enough that you can hit the OH-SHIT button before the plane hits the ground. A little caution and common sense go a long way. I do want to say that a person with no flying experience at all that is going to try flying on your own without an instructor would be better off flying a much cheaper plane probably something from Bang Good or Gear Best. Because of the expense of this plane I did get a Sport Cub S and found it to be too underpowered and too short of flight time to be practical.
Are you sure the switch for the beginner/intermediate/advanced isnt reversed? You might be switching to advanced instead of beginner when it crashes. Also, is that the transmitter that came with the RTF package? It looks like you are using the DX6i, and not the DXe that comes with the plane. I'm betting you are having a set up problem.
Awesome lessons learned by your videos. I have never done RC but would like to. I like the Carbon Club plane but can see it is better to start out right with the proper plane for beginners so you don't get frustrated. I am amazed at your patience to repair and determination to make it work. In your first flight video you mentioned that you did not have the manual. Hmmm. Looks like there are some things to know in the manual that are not intuitive. This flight a lesson learned is to use an open field with no poles.
🤣🤣🤣, brother i feel ya . ive been having that luck also. you have inspired me to continue my journey as a pilot. and thanks for showing how to's on repairs. hot glue works good and i used e6000 on the plastic,
**Mad skills mode** Buddy you crashed this in 10 seconds the first time as you were facing the wrong way. Then you crashed it a second time, in *Mad Skills Mode* Any other videos on this plane are great, this guy just doesn’t want to do what this plane is meant for.
I am thinking about getting this plane. I do not think you have the plane setup properly and your flying too low, flitetest and rc sailors always recommend 3 mistakes high if your a beginner. And I'm guessing the damage to your plane didnt help. Watch the Rc Sailors video it flew perfect
My 12 year old grandson just got his 2nd full flight on this in 2 days. It flies amazing and the features are amazing! I easily recommend this for a beginner.
Methinks you started with all the safety features turned off - then crashed - and crashed again - and then you expected it to fly well......
This is my first and only plane I have, zero experience and it flies amazing! I’ve landed the plain at least 12 times and lands incredible. I highly recommend it for beginners, my 14yr old and I are having a good time with it.
I disagree... the plane can't get much better to be honest. You are really making some crucial mistakes that you really cannot blame on the plane.
Your biggest mistake is you fly much too low! Did you ever hear of the old saying, ''Fly at least three mistakes high?"
I bought this plane too as beginner and I have no problem. Even with a lot of wind it is really easy to fly! It seems that you crash the plane voluntarily. Just with the fact that you tried it in a stadium with poles... great idea for a plane that reach 80 km/h speed!... no more comments.

Well that's cool!
i see here many are having the same issues as you did though reading through the comments... is this FC programmable? did you guys run the GPS setup?
There are 2 structural weak points the nose cone being 1 the second is the end of the fuselage just past the last hole on the bottom side ...I found that if I hot glue 5mm carbon rods on the bottom its stronger than the factory and the nose cone same again ..it is quite a fragile plane .I totally wrecked my first rtf then got the bnf so I now use the original one as a Dona
Happy days
Keep Flying

Have not seen any other videos with this trouble with this plane.
One issue i had was the gps, i just unplugged the module, its the most aggravating thing in the world
appreciate the info, and impressed that it still flys...thx for sharing
My pleasure. Thanks for the feedback.
Meanwhile I fly a top race trainer with Florida winds and this guy is crashin the hobbyzone carbon cub expecting it to have autopilot
The carbon cub is my first Actual RC plane and I have crashed it once.
In the manual is says to fly 3 mistakes high you were barely out of the ground effect and those were all controlled flight into terrain lol
Well I tried flying high and found that seeing double didn't work that well.
I just finished putting mine together today and after watching this video I’m terrified 😂
OutdoorMentor well today is the day. Wish me luck 😜
Wiggan RC ...this is a great little plane. You will enjoy it.
Don't let this video scare you. Its the pilot and not the plane.
Like your style and humour lol. Great looking plane and well done with your final landing. Thinking of getting one. Cheers liked and subscribed. Cheers:)
Hey, thanks!
Have to check connections after crashes I have had control wires from reciver/ flight controller come loose not off and have it do crazy shi*. But over all tons of fun to fly and horizon hobby will give you tons of tech support if needed
This was some grade A commentary. You sir earned a subscriber even if ya had a few crashes.
Haha thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😃
That sucks! No, I never really did find out.
@@RCwithAdam1 it's very strange as I said if your Flying and chop the throttle it's glides like a bird .it's as if it goes into lemming mode .but just brought another one and I've got loads of spares from the old one .

I'll let you know how it goes
Why didn't you pull back when it was diving? Always try and level the wings and level out before crashing..😊👍🏻
Lol I tried but it wouldn't respond! 😂
A catch22 indeed!
A cucumber has more of an idea of flight envelope/aerodynamics than you do pal.....read the manual if you are able to...
Andrew Tate a
I wouldn't flick switches until you successfully take off AND land.
Dang man I love mine I’ve had nothing but good luck with mine but you are right it’s definitely not a beginner and also thanks for your help on the radio set up
I flew mine today and noticed that in intermediate the plane would automatically roll further in some turns.
Can you make some more videos with your carbon cub
Oh no! Man that's frustrating! Did it survive the crash?
RC equivalent of "Will it blend"
Hahaha yes x)
so i know its been a long time since you posted the video but i just literally put mine together last night and then had it working with a upgraded transmitter. now i have watched several videos. and read each instruction manual and either im just retarded and cant read or i missed something some where. my plane did the exact thing yours did.
You can’t switch like that in the air because it will think your in a strong angle and kill the throttle
For you other pilots, when u plant a plane in the ground. Take it home and work on it.
The thing with the carbon cub is it’s climate😂
dude, you must have lots of cash
All that popsicle stick weight you added to the tail made that plane unstable!
Haha.. yes. This is the most funny rc video l’ve seen!!!!! Nice!!!
I have had mine less than a month and had a lot of the same problems, nose dived and broke the fuselage right behind the wings... maybe expert mode was a bit premature for my self 🙈
I think this was a good flight
Read the manual then read it again and then read it again , if you don't have the switch's in the right sequence and don't do the compass orientation and have the height for a gps landing your asking for trouble , I beleive you should have flown it in gps safe mode and let the plane do its wiggle waggle thing until you got used to flying it
I paid a bit more and got the RTF model just to make sure there is no programming problems, later if I go to flaps I will go to my 8channel TX
Same, RTF sure is a lot easier!
I almost have to ask ? Have you flown before?
Supposing I hadn't, wouldn't this be the ideal plane for me?
Well I haven't flown in 37 years and I love this plane. My buddy's threw there bs card down on I haven't flown in a while they think I'm an expert Flyer. I think your controller isn't set up right
Oh by the way I got the rtf so my controller is matched to the plane. The safe makes my plane fly flat when I let go of the sticks
I kinda wonder if there is a "ideal" plane for you. Maybe titanium so it wouldn't break so easy
As well as thefact that you didn’t even set it up properly
Are you sure the switch for the beginner/intermediate/advanced isnt reversed? You might be switching to advanced instead of beginner when it crashes. Also, is that the transmitter that came with the RTF package? It looks like you are using the DX6i, and not the DXe that comes with the plane. I'm betting you are having a set up problem.
Hi! You are correct, I am using a dx6i. This came as a bnf, and I think I set all the switches up correctly.
Bob Wilson a
Nooooooooooooo! This plane is the best on the market for beginners! he doesn't know what he is saying!
This plane is perfect for beginners this guy is just crazy and just having fun and a very light-hearted fellow. I think it was just a skit lol
never mind all that calibration stuff just fly it WITH OUT the safties and home locations keep the rates high and fly it
🤣🤣🤣, brother i feel ya . ive been having that luck also. you have inspired me to continue my journey as a pilot. and thanks for showing how to's on repairs. hot glue works good and i used e6000 on the plastic,
Just got this for my B-Day and busted the tail off in a tree.
I had this plane , it was fantastic until it got stuck in a 70ft tree , just fly it’s a little faster because you keep stalling it
Why you flying so low? Fly 3 mistakes high. If you can’t maiden this without crashing, maybe stick with RC cars.
Your a silly goose alright!
That's me!
Not good content never watching again
👌
I disagree I have never flown a plane at all and got this one and haven’t crashed it yet.
start at beginner mode and move up
**Mad skills mode**
Buddy you crashed this in 10 seconds the first time as you were facing the wrong way. Then you crashed it a second time, in *Mad Skills Mode*
Any other videos on this plane are great, this guy just doesn’t want to do what this plane is meant for.
i agree, i feel like people shouldnt start on such a big plane, a mini trainstar or one of the volantex/eachine warbirds are better for begginers
I am thinking about getting this plane. I do not think you have the plane setup properly and your flying too low, flitetest and rc sailors always recommend 3 mistakes high if your a beginner. And I'm guessing the damage to your plane didnt help. Watch the Rc Sailors video it flew perfect
You have it in noob mode... and you’re still crashing you’re the noob
Stop turning off the safe technology if you keep from crashing it.
Yooooo... put the landing gear back on that sucker and fly atleast 100ft altitude... that bird covers ground fast
