I hate excel and sitting infront of corporate computers-it was a HUGE WASTE OF MY LIFE TO BE EMPLOYED AND STARING AT EXCEL SHEETS THE WHOLE DAY.Now i am self employed and walk out more and deal with situations rather than staring at screens.Shame on you for making people lazy with SCREENS
Before this was a feature, I bought software to do the same thing. Now, whenever I show this to colleagues and friends, their minds are blown. End result, people bring me coffee for more nuggets 🤣
Windows + Shift + S for the snip it tool, great combo with the windows + V clipboard shortcut. Windows + H for the speech to text tool, great for notes or slow typers!
@@newtoth85 Now you can also disable the Prints Screen to bring up the snipping tool since Microsoft made it defautl for some stupid reason! I want to change the shortcuts to what I want.
Hi Leila, I always appreciate shortcut key videos because they can often be so much quicker and easier to use. As a screen reader user I rely on them totally so it's nice to see that they are valued. If you pin programs to the taskbar at the bottom pressing windows key plus a number will launch that program, I use this all the time. So for instance I have Microsoft edge as the first program and to launch it from anywhere I just press Windows key plus 1. Also to jump to where the network icon and the volume control and such are just press Windows key plus B.
I've been an IT professional for over 25 years and I use all of these except Ctrl + K which I will be using from now on! So, a good selection that should have something for most users. One I use a lot is Ctrl+Shift+N to create new folders in File Expolorer.
This favorite shortcut is for the ISE/IDE editors for most languages: Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down - does a columnar selection so you can insert/edit/delete the same columns across multiple lines. This makes it easier to line up variable declarations and assignments together, adding legibility and maintainability.
Another that I use a lot (but doesn't work everywhere) is CTRL + Shift + V It is a paste command but will strip out any formatting that a block of text has. This will help things copied from a webpage, etc, to paste into your new document or email without changing the way your document looks. But the one I use the most is CTRL + W. This will close your current tab in every browser I've used as well as many other programs (like Excel, photoshop, etc) or CTRL + T to open a new tab
One of the best windows shortcuts is Windows key + Shift + Left/Right arrow key. This will switch your open window to your other displays. For example I have 3 screens I use for work, usually if I wanted to take the open window to another display I would use the mouse to drag the window to the display I wanted to use. Using this shortcut it does the same thing: windows is on display 1, I press Win + Shift + Left Arrow window jumps to display 2, press it again window jumps to display 3. I guarantee when your colleagues see this in the office they will be very impressed.
Ctrl+tab and Ctrl+shift+tab for navigating tabs in a browser. Alt+tab for jumping back and forth quicker than windows+tab between two open windows/applications. Thank you for making this video btw... there's some goodies in there for sure.
Who said: "You can't teach an old dog new tricks"? I have been using computers for over 30 years and today I learned thanks to you, New Tricks! Thanks Leila 😍
This entire video is worth watching for Windows + V. I have been looking for a way to do this for years. Once upon a time you could do this in most Microsoft applications. Thank you so much Leila.
What a great video Leila! I totally agree that everyone should be using these and I will be sharing this widely. I thought I new shortcuts pretty well but I only knew about half of these. My favourite new one you shared is the magnifier. I'm using it as I type this comment. I do a bit of training at work and this one is going to be SOOO useful. The "reopen tabs" one is even better than you talked about. It will even re-open closed browser windows (along with all the tabs in them)! Thanks for making such a useful and clear video Leila. ❤❤ your work.
Thanks for sharing Leila, I am all excited to use these new shortcuts (better late than never). I work with a big monitor at work and used to spend time resizing open windows. This was very tedious. Win+arrow keys worked like a charm in easily fitting windows to a specific part of the screen. For example, Select an open window and press Win+Right arrow to fit the window to the right half of the screen. My two cents on the win-shortcuts I found really helpful. Keep rocking!
Favorite shortcut in Windows Explorer (the file manager): Ctrl+NumpadPlus: resize all columns to fit contents (once; it's not a setting). This only applies to the Details view. Shortcut to switch to details view: Ctrl+Shift+6. The same shortcut with other numbers switches to other views. I like Ctrl+Shift+2 for browsing image thumbnails.
@lgvdbroek Nowhere is the scope limited to shortcuts using the Windows key - including the title. This video actually contains shortcuts that do not use the Windows key. At the end she invites viewers to comment about "any other shortcuts you use a lot". What's your favorite shortcut?
favorite shortcuts: windows - shift -s snip its ctrl- shift - s (in browser) web capture windows - ⬅ or ➡ split screen multiple applications windows - v clipboard history, copy multiple, paste multiple windows- x select terminal(cmd prompt), device manager etc.. I really like the windows- . didn't know about that, cheers
Thank you for this. I just don't take the time to learn these shortcuts and something like this, that highlights them, is perfect for reminding and learning.
Brilliant. I like the one Windows and + especially to zoom in on the formula bar when training students in Excel. Your training helps me so much! Thank you Leila.
I bound CTRL+TAB to the right scroll wheel button on my Logitech G502 mouse and CTRL+SHIFT+TAB to the left scroll wheel button. What this does is allows me to switch tabs in Chrome by tapping either side of my scroll wheel. It's by far my most used shortcut. I probably use it over 1000 times per day. It saves a lot of time, too, because you don't have to keep moving your cursor to the top bar to select what tab you want.
In Microsoft Excel, I reprogrammed the keyboard to add many tasks that I do routinely. Write visual basic routines for frequently used tasks. Include a routine called Auto_Open(). This will execute every time the file is loaded. Then use the OnKey function to reprogram the keyboard. Sub Auto_open() Application.OnKey "^3", "HideExcel" End sub This example programmed the CMMD-3 keys to call the sub HideExcel .... which hides excel. Then save it as an .XLA file. Place this .XLA file in the XLStart folder for Excel Every time Excel is launched, the Auto_Open reads in all the OnKey commands that you programed ... it all happens in the background.
Thank you, Leila Great set of useful shortcuts. I also use often the combination of left WIN + SPACEBAR for switching the keyboard's languages (it works in W10 and higher)
Thanks! I learned new things after 30 years of being an IT professional. You might want to look at your arrow keys. Why do you have two keys for Up and none for Left in this video?
Wonderful. I knew a few of these, and I thought going in that I would already be aware of most shortcuts being discussed here. I was wrong - pleasantly surprised. Thank you. :)
great resume of useful Windows shortcuts. I use most of them on a daily basis and one I didn't see is Windows+Shift+S to take a quick screenshot on your clipboard. Thanks
Windows , is a game changer ❤❤ Windows . for Emoji never imagined it 👍👍 Windows V for Clipboard history 👌👌 Control K for Writing in search did not dream of it👌👌
Windows key + right/left arrow to split the screen in half to view side by side windows is one of my favorite's. By the way, I also learn from watching some the shortcuts you do on the screen without talking about them. For example with you have range of formulas and want to copy the top one down by just double clicking in the right corner (instead of pulling down the bold + sign).
I always look forward to Thursday mornings with Prof Leila (while sipping a cup of hot coffee) and today was no different. 9 shortcuts presented, ... and I knew 2 ... 😬. But thanks to Prof Leila, I will soon be using several more. Thank you ... thank you ... thank you ... 😍😍😍 PS At the 46 second mark " ... this is probably my son's most used shortcut ..." ... 🤭🤭
The best shortcut I know is holding down the power button for a couple of seconds. Works on all computers, but it’s the most satisfying on Windows PCs.
Great. I use most of these shirtcuts regularly. Importat to note that if you click inside an excel Table however Ctl+Shift+T toggles the Total Row Off/On.
Thanks I definitely learnt something new. The windows + v for clipboard and how many items you can store on there plus that we can pin something on there was really cool to learn and I can already see it being super useful to me in the future. I actually didn't know about alt + tab so thanks for teaching me that one too :P Some shortcuts that weren't mentioned here but I find useful are: - windows + E (opens file explorer) - windows + T (select apps on the taskbar) - windows + N (taskbar notifications) - windows + I (settings) - windows + ctrl + O (on-screen keyboard)
This has become one of my favorite channels these days. Careful - when you try Windows+L keys = your screen is locked. Good luck to find your way back.
Thank you. Those help a lot. 😊Especially the very first one to get to the desktop. I know to click the very right corner next to the time to get to it as well, but at work with two screens it somehow does not work all the time and minimising all windows by hand takes so much time. So thank you for that short cut.😊
Since I'm having keyboard problems, I frequently use the windows plus H key to activate speech dictation. None of this was typed, it was all spoken into the computer's microphone. Neat.
Ctrl Z is good for more than just undoing typos. You delete a file to the Recycle Bin, Ctrl Z brings it back. Same if you delete multiple files. Also, if you move or rename a file(s), Ctrl Z undoes those actions, provided you use it right away. Ctrl Y is good for at least one redo, provided you use it soon, very soon.
Win + L is going to save me two keystrokes every time I leave my desk. So it's accurate to say, that, in certain circumstances, this video has boosted my productivity by 100%.
Hey, There is also the Windows icon together with an arrow down to reduce a window, or to the sides to reduce it to half a screen, There is also the Windows icon along with a number, which opens the program that is closest to the Windows icon on the taskbar, for example, the Windows icon + 3 will open the program number 3 that is on the taskbar. (where 1 is the program attached to the Windows icon)
The one I probably use the most lately is Windows and an arrow to split my screen. I might have 2 large and a notebook screen, but there are times it's nice to have items side by side on one of the larger screens.

Win + Z to arrange open windows as you like
Clipboard history at 00:52 is gold. Thank you❤
Using it every day since it was released :)

Agreed, shocked I didn't know about this one.
Windows + Shift + S for the snip it tool, great combo with the windows + V clipboard shortcut. Windows + H for the speech to text tool, great for notes or slow typers!
Now you can also set the Print Screen key to bring up the snipping tool in accessibility settings
yeah win + H is pretty great
@@newtoth85 Now you can also disable the Prints Screen to bring up the snipping tool since Microsoft made it defautl for some stupid reason! I want to change the shortcuts to what I want.
Windows +E for File Explorer and Control+F to search (especially useful for finding specific words on a web page)

I've been demoted. I was a know-it-all, but I didn't know some of these short-cuts. But now I do !!! I'm a know-it-all again !!! Thank you !!!
😁
Win+Shift+S to take a screenshot is one of my favorites.
Just learned about it. Computer shortcuts are not for everyone 👍👍
I've been an IT professional for over 25 years and I use all of these except Ctrl + K which I will be using from now on! So, a good selection that should have something for most users.
One I use a lot is Ctrl+Shift+N to create new folders in File Expolorer.

But the one I use the most is CTRL + W. This will close your current tab in every browser I've used as well as many other programs (like Excel, photoshop, etc)
or CTRL + T to open a new tab
I wished this worked in OneNote, but alas
Then CTRL + Tab to alternate between tabs.

I learned this a few months ago, I use it many times a day. I snap windows all over the screen, people always ask how I did that so fast. Magic!
Thanks for sharing!
THANK YOU! I was doing this without the Shift and it's slower and asks to put something next to that window.
Ctrl+tab and Ctrl+shift+tab for navigating tabs in a browser. Alt+tab for jumping back and forth quicker than windows+tab between two open windows/applications.
