  • The Fanatec Podium DD1/DD2 wheel base has been around for a while. Over the last few years, it's received many firmware and software improvements that have greatly enhanced the experience and force feedback. But is it still worth it?

    UPDATE: THE QR2 system launched today and now on the DD1/DD2 there is zero flex!

    Owning a CSL-DD, this video helps me get over the FOMO of the DD1/DD2. I always think it would be nice to have the extra power, but at the ned if the day the 8Nm is decent enough for my setup. I also change my steering wheels a lot, and the rubber collarnwould be a royal pain. I can stick with what I have and wait for the next generation of podium and Clubsport wheelbases from Fanatec. The CSL-DD should last another 5 years or so, fingers crossed. 😂

    I loved my dd pro but had an opportunity to grab the now discontinued podium F1 dd1, and went for it. I LOVE this thing. I just wanted a bit more than the dd pro could do. So now I have a full podium f1 setup and tgt 2 setup and have fun with both. Sometimes on console thrustmaster works in certain games better so I like having both

    Thanks for the video! I've just picked up DD1 with QR2 and ClubSport Wheel RS for 1000€ as a Black Friday bundle... Thought it was a good deal and worth a few hundred bucks more over CSL DD

    Hi Sebb
    I agree with most of what you say. The FF of the DD2 is really good. The QR sucks as you say. I switched to Asetek Invicta recently. In my opinion it is better. more snappy, livelier. The QR is fantastic on the Asetek. btw. I am surprised you Find Assetto Corsa Comp FF good. I prefer AC and even Automobilista 2 FF, much more feeling in my opinion. Competizione FF is kind of bland.
    I like z your reviews, good depth and honesty. Keep going!

    can you elaborate in detail what the main differences are in ffb feel between simucube and fanatec dd? (other than smootheness)... sidenote: qr2 is coming next week...

    Thares so many settings they recommend you keep off but if you do use them it can eliminate that notchie feeling..
    The QR seems to be the luck of the draw! My wheels connect to the wheel base so tight i have a hard time getting them off lol. I have zero flex or slipping.
    My only fear is the newer wheel i purchased used a slightly smaller diameter pin vs the old one i have! At first i had a couple signal issues, but then i tightened the the locking ring down a tad tighter and that stopped

    It was but now its def not worth it. Just get the dd+ it feels like its ovrr 20nm and there are no like 0 dips or drops or dead zones. Its always got torwue always got this grip weight feel in the cneter of the wheel. It just never loosens unless its to tell you something about the grip. Insane feel, clean clean feel. Super polished with tons of detail.

    Doesnt podium feel like a bad choice now then asatek have full ecosystem and bundles over 10nm for barely the price of podium base and asatek being reviewed by many as top products? Feels like a asatek bundle before podium base is a better choice?

    I went with Fanatec DD1 primarily because I could understand their ecosystem. Information on Asetek via their website is a mess. I’ve never driven on an asetek/moza wheel so I’ll have nothing to compare to.

  • @mrmidnight32
    @mrmidnight32 8 месяцев назад +1

    No you shouldn’t. Fanatec them selves said the podium is obsolete with the new CS DD and DD+. They will not make these and support them for much longer. Another reason they slashed the prices on these.

    • @hald4865
      @hald4865 8 месяцев назад

      wait what do you mean ? Should we not get it anymore, i am considering buying the DD2 with QR2. I am new to sim racing and want something where I can slowly build up with without making other purchases

    • @mrmidnight32
      @mrmidnight32 8 месяцев назад

      @@hald4865 I’d get the DD or DD+. They have the same holding torque as the DD1. DD1 just has a higher peak torque. The current market doesn’t seem to care about peak torques anymore. Everyone wants holding torque which is the actual torque value of a base. But fanatec and boosted media both have said the new DD series has better feedback. And it should only get better when they release their new software.
      Fanatec said the podium series will be phased out. Some people suspect in 3 years there will be a new podium DD series in the future.

    • @hald4865
      @hald4865 8 месяцев назад

      @@mrmidnight32 so you would say getting the DD+ for 200 more dollars would be the better option than getting the the DD2 with QR2. As the DD2's holding torque is around 20N. I am only considering either the DD+ or the DD2 to purchase now. I am also contemplating between the CSL Elite V2's or the V3's as there is a 100$ difference and I would like a better clutch and feedback in the long run but I heard that the V3's breaks down and is annoying in terms of adjustability.

    • @mrmidnight32
      @mrmidnight32 8 месяцев назад

      @@hald4865 I haven’t touched one yet. I literally just ordered the DD this morning. True torque is actually 15nm on the DD2. I’m sure you googled as most of us showing it has 20 from that esports website. But the CEO OF FANATEC him self posted a graph showing I doesn’t hold 20nm for any longer than 5 seconds. Holding torque is 15nm. Again what they also said was the DD+ is superior technology to the podium series. Faster response time, cleaner FFB, and with the true force or what ever it’s called will be even better. Which is why they’re dropping the podium line. The Black Friday sale is to rid them selves of old stock.
      Again my stats and info come from fanatec them selves several times.

      The Podiums cannot be obsolete if they're still selling them. Also, they are still supporting the obsolete CSW 2.5 and CSL Elite bases (latest driver 454 included firmware updates for them). It will be a while before they stop supporting Podium bases especially as they've not replaced the range.
