The PrettyThings must have been truly something to behold during their wild Rhythm and Blues period. Road Runner live is tremendous. Great drumming by the legendary Vivian Prince. I played my brother's LP of that debut album to death. Much more immediate and raw than the Stones debut. I finally got to see them at Lancaster University in 1974. Fantastic show. Support act was a singer called Keith Christmas I think. RIP Phil. The Pretty Things are an acquired taste but a taste that I still enjoy every now and then.
Excellent! To set the record straight, my uncle Gordon John Edwards RIP in 2003 on harmony and guitar here. Songwriter, Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards. Bands include: Sunshine, The Electric Banana, The Pretty Things, The Kinks, The Firm.
They were credited with the "Longest Hair in London" circa 1965.... Pipping the Stones and the Fabs and the Who knows what to the top of the mops....blah blah blah Who cares? I don't know why I bother Screw you all x
I just heard their music for the first time a few days ago and I am blown away. How did I miss out on this band back in the day when I was groovin to Hendrix, Cream, Stones, Doors, Jefferson Airplane and Janis Joplin. It's a crying shame, I don't know who to blame. The Pretty Things are Incredible and the hippest, coolest set of Cats I have ever seen. I hope they still can get the Fame and fortune they DESERVE.🤓😎💥
Reading the earlier reviews most people don’t know about the pretties one of the best English bands that never got the attention that others did have listening to them since 1970
WHAAAT? Phil May is gone? [:-(] I guess I'm not up on things. I only found out today that Spencer Davis is gone! [:-(] But I see John Povey is still in teh band at this point. I don't recognize the other blokes.
BBC and others are lazy about stuff like this. It doesn't take much effort to get the facts right before a broadcast...they can look on Google just like the rest of us. Shame on them.
Tefannie Bayawa: I bet you discovered the first two albums, after the event too! Only a young dimwit who wasn't there at the time would say such a thing!
+huskvarsm What are you? Some kind of virus with shoes I'm guessing. You don't know what you are talking about. Get back to us when you've learnt to walk upright!
Chris Baranet: No Chris, Sludge like The Black Crows aspire to be this good! If you can't hear the difference between pastiche and the real deal, thats merely your problem!
cierra cable The Stones were better looking than the Pretties. Its not a joke. Almost everybody was. Look at Jagger in the Little Red Rooster video from '64.
I disagree! Their early stuff is inconsistent. The singles were stunning. But not as stunning as The Stones Decca singles! Get The Picture is the best of their early albums for me, The Stones released 'Out Of Our Heads' at the same point. Out Of Our Heads is an awesome album! (Their version of Cry To Me for example, shreds The Pretties take on it. Then we have 'Emotions' (oh dear) which when compared to 'Aftermath' stands as a truly dismal experience. Even with the strings taken off, its still poor! SF Sorrow and Parachute are Classics and I agree, The Pretties psychedelic period was far more interesting and innovative than The Stones. I saw them perform SF Sorrow at The Lyceum in London just after it came out! What a night! After 'Exile' I lost interest in The Stones. Its Only Rock And Roll is unbelievably crass. At the point Jagger became Peter Pan the Stones became non-essential listening for me. I read in Ugly Things that May had challenged The Stones to a battle of the bands night at the 100 Club in Oxford Street. It was around their 50th anniversary or some such occasion. A great idea! Imagine what the tickets would be changing hands for? Unfortunately he didn't get a reply!
R I P Phil May, The Pretty Things one of the greatest Rock Bands ever.
VERY GOOD BAND..........................................
Rest in Peace Phil May thanks for the music man.

Anyone who says this sucks has no clue of the spirit of rock and roll. This is the real deal folks.
@@goodfoot2014 Stick to Bon Jovi mate
The Pretty Things are timeless! One of my favorite bands! R.I.P. Phil!

Maxine STEEL Just read about his sad passing. Very sorry to hear it, and especially the circumstances. He was really on top form here.
He had lead singer vocal chops.
Very sad to hear about the passing of guitarist Pete Tolson, never got the acclaim he deserved, he was on top form on this track.
Page was always impressed by Tolson. Plant worshipped Phil May (and it shows)!.
RIP Phil May
rest in peace, phil he died this week aged 75,i love this track phil claimed he had the longest hair in the seventies.! from shaz in the east mids.
They were credited with the "Longest Hair in London" circa 1965....

Who cares?
I don't know why I bother
Screw you all x
One of the greatest Rock and Roll groups. Even in this line up. Dirty scandalous violent space cadets. Love em.

This reminds me of a Them tune, just heard this band the other day.
Awesome........
killer track
Their last good album ...it would be 1999 for some worthwhile stuff again.....
Almost agree Paul...cept' I LIKED (typically ill fated/Ignored!!) "Cross Talk" (MUCH BETTER than "Rage" too!!)....~E....
I think Savage Eye is pretty good. My Song is a great tune by Phil.
the middle guitarist is jack Green is he on rythmn guitar
Sad the BBC does not even know who Dick Taylor is! (He left in 1969). I love their raw 'art school sound' (before SF Sorrow)...
Taylor is great on SF Sorrow!
BBC and others are lazy about stuff like this. It doesn't take much effort to get the facts right before a broadcast...they can look on Google just like the rest of us. Shame on them.
It's quite good. Preferred the earlier stuff though.
Loved their first two albums, none of the rest

@@andythomas706 reflections,their best album.
Music
Can you tell me what the song is called please?
there weren't too many bands back then that were real fucking crap but these guys were top of the heap as far as shit goes.
+huskvarsm What are you? Some kind of virus with shoes I'm guessing. You don't know what you are talking about. Get back to us when you've learnt to walk upright!
You should change you ID name to Knobwrist!!!
is this The Black Crows ?
Chris Baranet: No Chris, Sludge like The Black Crows aspire to be this good! If you can't hear the difference between pastiche and the real deal, thats merely your problem!
playback?
It's really a shame that The Rolling Stones got so famous and these guys didn't. The Stones were really just a rip off of them.
+cierra cable That's going a bit far. The Stones were better looking!
Andy Thomas Better looking? Is this a joke?
cierra cable The Stones were better looking than the Pretties. Its not a joke. Almost everybody was. Look at Jagger in the Little Red Rooster video from '64.
Andy Thomas Is that important? I think what's more important is the quality of the music they make and their quality is way better than the Stones.
