- Hey guys! I have a good one today. This 2009 Chevrolet Malibu 3.6 V6 has an intermittent no crank no start problem. The car starts fine in the morning and after sitting for a few hours, but does not start when the engine is warmed up. I show you how I found the problem inside the ubec fuse box and how to fix it without having to replace it. Thank you for watching!

I’m just turned 60 years old and this young man inspired me to learn more about cars with each new video. Gracias muchacho.
I've never seen this kind of detailed look at a fuse box, bravo! Lesser men would have simply replaced the whole box.
Thank you for watching!
You mean lesser men wouldn’t have wasted any time trying figure out what went wrong inside the box and just replaced the box after the proper diagnosis?
I like the idea of saving the customer some money but the guy who replaces the whole fuse box is not a lesser man. Kieth Defazio would have replaced the box after 5 minutes of diagnosis because of his work environment, he's gotta do 20 cars a day. You gotta remember different techs are under different pressures. Not trying to be an ass, just sharing my thoughts.
@@kdmq Good point.
@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO Good video . Good information . I have re-soldered many gauge clusters and repaired way to many fuse panels in the 2004 to 2008 F-150,s that are located in the passenger kick panels . I purchased a kit of relay testers brand name Service Tools part number 56810 . This kit is a time saver !!
Man you're a good teacher who can make someone to understand each and everything to diagnose faults in cars.just keep it up
Hey man, I just wanted to say thank you so much for this video. This was our issue, and after 3 months with a new fuse box, not a single issue. You don’t understand how much you helped my family, seriously!!! We don’t have money to just buy a new car. God bless you !
Was it plug and play ?
how much did you pay for the service?
Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow!
This was my two year long problem! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Ours was in same place also!!! Worked during colder weather. Acted worse in hotter weather. Watched every video I could find on 2010 Malibu for two years! Then two days ago punched in Chevy Mal and this video popped up! When I saw video title and fuse board I
Looked at my wife and said this is it! This is the fix! We hadn't even watched video yet! We watched video then I went straight out and took apart fuse box (had to drill it apart), tested with meter (FINE!) THROWED HEAT GUN TO IT, tested again then saw crack (SAME EXACT PLACE IN THAT BEND). SOLDERED wire back together ,had to pry wire up out of plastic, slid two nails under wire to hold up off of plastic so not to melt board. TWO YEAR PROBLEM FIXED!!!
I just wanted to thank you so much! No one knew how to fix this!
I could push and wiggle fuse box and the car would start some times. I had pulled apart fuse box but never that far apart having to drill out bolt sleeves. But even if I had ,I wouldn't have found the problem with the wire! Because the situation with the heat shrinkage. Wow thank you!
I put in new starter, new fuses, switched relays.
Then one wire so small could be such a monster problem!!!!!!
Thank you again!!!!!!!
And I'm talking a lot of time involved trying to fix this!! So many times you think man I got it fixed!
Then you're stuck at a gas station or a restaurant!!!
Just can't let you know how much we appreciate your video and time!!!
Thank you so much for making this video, i have a 2008 chevy malibu some issues replace all kinds of sensors replaced the starter the alternator ,crank sensor ,cam sensor replace the relay fuse nothing was working, this video gave me the courage to try soldering and you explained everything perfectly and after 2 weeks under hood the problems is fix
Hey I’m currently having the same problem with my 2011 Chevy Malibu same with me replaced the starter battery and even tried the computer ! When you replaced the fuse box everything was good ? And also if you did replace where did you get one ? I’m having trouble
Half way in I was like “this guy is insane”. I admire your patience and drive. That heat test was really clever. I hope you charge well for your time.
Lol been having this problem for yrs, I pulled a fuse box from a junk car time ago, but I'm finally gonna replace today, your video is my car engine and you help me confirm the problem
Thank you so much for your help! This was our exact problem. My husband found the crack in the circuit wire right where you showed and we’ve had no problem starting our car in the hot Texas sun since! Also, we were both super impressed with your mad skills at diagnosing this car. Was actually quite fun to watch you trouble shoot and fix this problem!
How did you fix it cause I'm having the same problem
We took the fuse box/circuit board out just like he did in this video. Used a hair dryer to heat it up, although when we took it out, it was already pretty hot from sitting in the sun. Then at 9:30 minutes in on this video, he shows a tiny break in the copper wire. We had a break in the exact same spot. We used a magnifying glass. My husband put a little solder on the wire to fix the break and reconnect the circuit. Our car started fine after that even when it was super hot out. Good luck! Hope you’re able to fix your car too.@@memelove8608
@@CaroleTX How did you get the fuse box apart? Theres 3 bolts that dont come out?
@@lumi2798 I don’t exactly recall as it’s been a while back, but I did find another RUclips video called “Changing the fuse box on a chevy Impala and Malibu” ruclips.net/video/ggJUF0qbxTw/видео.html
that shows how to remove those screws. Seems my husband did it that exact same way. Hope the video helps you!
Thank you so much for this video, I've had multiple mechanics stuck on this problem. This video explains exactly what's happening with my car. Now I can finally get it fixed.
Hi, did this end up fixing it? Same issue- no mechanics know. Did you replace the fuse box or junction block?
I’ve been going through this for years. Man you are a saint and a true mechanic. Thank you so much. Man let me send you a gift card or something please
Thank you! Honestly, I wouldn't mind taking a donation if I was able to help save you money and time. If you'd like, go to paypal.me/advancedlevelauto
Thank you very much! I had a power reduced issue on 2010 Chevy Malibu, and the problem was on the fuse box just like you show on your video.
You my dear are brilliant! Thank you for sharing this knowledge. This is EXACTLY the problem Ive been having that no one could figure out! My hats off to you! 👍
You are the man!!!
I don't get why you have thumbs down but you have my respect!
Excellent job
Great diag and repair. Had this happen to me on a 09 Malibu hybrid. Beat me up for a while since it was an intermittent no crank after a hot soak. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to future videos.
Thank you!
Awesome video 👏. You saved me TY. Just took the fuse box apart. If you give the screws a light live tap they will come out. Then i used a stepup bit on the topside. The square piece came off with little to no effort allowing me to pull the box completely apart. TY again for the video
You do a great job explaining,.. my daughter have the same problem but thanks to you I was able to fix it..
2009 Chevy Malibu LTZ 3.6L - Same exact issue car starts right up when cold. Once I drive it around a bit and it gets hot under the hood it won't crank, won't make any clicking noise or anything. I Have to wait until it cools down. Watched video and ordered a used underhood fuse panel from ebay for $90 car is working fine so far, great video.
Did you have to program it? I’m having the same issue. I put a fan over the fuse box to cool down at home to start it
I have the same problem with the same model. This should be a recall. Welp I guess I need to buy a new box.
Omg this is exactly where my wire cracked, ty for this video. If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have known what needed to be replaced.
You sir are on point, respect. Also like the fact that you don't do any unnecessary yapping. Thank you for a very informative video. (fellow technician).
Fantastic job to get down to the actual failure point. Your demonstration was great. The archer power supply brings back memories.
Great troubleshooting, we need more mechanic like you and not parts re placers.
This is the video I needed. Thank you.
Same issue with Pontiac G6.
I’m sure many GM vehicles of the time period used the same fuse boxes.
You are the man had the same problem I went and got it welded good to go. Thank you for the video. I’m gonna give you 10 stars.
how did you get to the inside of the fuse box? my bolts will not come out?
You're a colossal help to all of us who are financially challenged i really needed this video and im sure everyone in the comments and in the will appreciate this
I just fixed this issue thanks to your awesome video!!
Thank you so much!! I had replaced the starter, we checked the BCM and still same issue. Once I saw this video I pulled the fuse box and there it was the hair line fracture. Saturn Aura XR 3.6 runs great now.
2009 Chevy Malibu LTZ 3.6L - Same exact issue. Replaced Starter Relay and Starter/Solenoid, same issue... no crank when warm. While investigating, discovered previous tech ran a jumper ground from Starter Relay to frame ground - which is not a good idea. Applied slight pressure to underhood fuse panel with fuse panel cover removed while warm... cranked and started fine. Thanks to your video, ordering the GM replacement Junction Block - GM part # (20822701). Thanks for the detailed information... You would think this would be a standard GM recall, as many are experiencing this exact same issue. Is General Motors listening?
Hi there! Did this fix the issue? So don’t buy a new fuse box, buy the junction block you have suggested?
Haven’t had my car for 3 months from this. No mechanic knows the issue.
My son-in-law is still driving the car after replacing block... The junction block is the under hood fuse box. The new junction block has been redesigned. Not a surprise.
For those with Malibu LT 3.6 without foglights gm #20822706 ;)
Great video.. can you please tell us what you used to put the fuse box back together after having to cut out those ferrules?
This was f'n great!! Nice work dude.
That was awesome. I would've replaced the box. I do keep some failed parts like this and check them out later like this to see the actual failure point afterward just for future reference. Great work.
Thank you for watching!
Im having this problem too. Can you tell us what type of soldier did you use and how you put the circuit box back together? Thank you sir!
Excellent troubleshooting! Excellent presentation! Expansion of the plastic separating the broken copper wire. Outstanding.
Thank you!
Soo much help needed this explanation
Tag this P0615 also. Very thorough explanation, I had this issue and had the P0615 DTC stored to
Will do! Thanks for the input!
Brother you know your chit,i bet you anything this is what's going on with my 2011 Malibu... Thank you for your knowledge!
Now that's how you diagnose a problem! Awesome awesome job brother and you was worried about the costumers cost to me that says a lot about you as a mechanic I have to say again great job great person.
Thank you for watching!
Eric! You are honest and professional! Anyway is mach better to make customer happy, earn more money and respect,.. instead of giving money to GM where Unions put that cash down to the toilet! Thank You so much for awesome content!
A lot of mechanics misdiagnose the fuse block as a faulty ecu. I bought a cobalt from a guy who spent $1400 at the dealership who was unable to repair it. Replaced the fuse block and it was good to go.
Great video! I am dealing M g with this same problem right now! The thermal expansion rates of the plastic fuse box body that the copper wire is snapped into is way greater than the actual copper wire, causing the stress fractures at the bends in the copper wire.
I wonder if the GM engineers have come up with a fix???
Thanks this is becoming a common problem for anythink woth a canbus system
And Scanner dannner told me you can’t open the box ! Thanks bro “ another great informative video..
How u get the 4 bolts out of the fuse box to separate it ?
Thanks for the video. I was.getting screwed over by mechanics just guessing the problem
excellent video, listen but if you do a classic soldering with tin and a 50w soldering iron then does it hold up or not over time? Does it solve the problem? Is the problem fixed?
You are master...the best my friend
I bought starter on eBay for $48 dollars work for a few days and it happened again by seen this I know what to do thank you I have Malibu Ltz 2012 and this been doing for a two weeks like this
did you ever fix it
Blessing
You are an master mechanic
Thank you very much!
Very Nice and professional job.
Did this exact same test expect without the light had a split at the same spot thank you for the video.
Did you solder the box too? I’m kinda scared to take the fuse box apart and it not work after
great video had the same problem did exactly the same thing on the video car works fine, Thanks
Awesome!
Was it hard to put the fuse box back together?
How did you get the bolts out to separate the two so you can soldier the copper bus
Any answer?
How did you get the other part open? I’m having difficulty opening the middle of the box I already have all the connections that go under it
Wow I'm impressed! Keep up the great work brother!
Good Job! A bit of silver solder and you are golden!
Awesome video man mine is having same problem
Dude, this is an awesome video and you nailed it! You are the man!
Thank you for being a mechanic bro.
I just split my fuse block. Did the solder fix work?.? I was able to find a new block but I would like to get my truck back on the road.
This is great information. I had tried changing throttle body kit with sensor but that was not the issue. I am very positive this is the issue with my V6 malibu ltz model. The only difference it used to be 3 hrs to cool and now I have to wait a day to complety cool down. Then it turns on like nothing was wrong and it repeat again. Do you repair fuse box?
Heat and vibration are the two killers for intermittent problems!!! great find!
Hey bro so I have the same Malibu but a 2012 how did you take the fuse box apart anyway you can help me or show me.
Great thorough job man
Gosh that's some amazing diagnosis
How did you solder the copper in your fuse box on the 2010 Malibu?
How do you separate the fuse box to get to the copper wiring. It seems the 4 bolts keep it from separating. do you push the bolts thru?
Great find. 👍👍
Nice in-depth video
How did you remove bolts
Brilliant Eric!!!
Thank you for watching!
im about to do that after watching this video.. i have same problem on a 2004 canyon.
I'm 67 years old and I remember as a youngster how we had to figure out why something didn't work, and you did exactly that.
The auto manufacturers make their cars with faulty designs,so we have to buy another vehicle .
Or take it to the dealership so they car fix their mistakes,on your Dollar.
09 Impala is different it has an actual circuit board with surface mount components , the dealership changed the fuse box for a no turnover condition but the problem is in one of the wire connections at the end of the wiring harness
Hey I don’t know if you can help me but ever since I’ve replaced my alternator I’ve had this code stored and I’ve replaced my starter and battery and still I can’t get no crank in my 07 impala if I replaced the fuse box you think it would fix the problem or would it still be that wiring harness
@@MrKingmickey77 make sure your battery has a good charge , good battery terminals, good ground. If the security system lite is on than watch some videos on that. If you have codes then I guess you have power to the ECU , test fuses and swap the starter relay , and then what I would do is pop the cover off the starter relay gently reinstall you might want to disconnect the battery, the relay can be cycled with slight side pressure to make sure the starter is working properly and if the starter turns over the engine then I would consider replacing the fuse box or do some testing to narrow down were the problem is coming from. some reasons I've seen for a no turnover condition, bad ground ,bad relay, no power from ECU , and the security system
Wow nice man. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
Post was great you the man you know your work
Hey man how did you take off the screws from the fuse box base
Hi, man great work, I have my fuse box taken apart and can see it cracked in the same exact location. What type of solder did u use and what was your method of soldering this? I greatly appreciate it. Thx.
how do you remove the dang bolts
@@brianmcreynolds3699 did u ever get those out I have the same issue😑
Hammer them with one quick wrap, and they'll pop out of the sleeves. Then drill the sleeves
@@DustinHillegass-ib2ewHi, i have the same problem and i can't remove that bolts, may you explain more please 🙏🙏
This video helped me thank you
I was able to get the fuse box out of my car, but I can get the fuse box apart to view the circuit! Any tips on how to get the bolts out? Much appreciated!
Did you get it done?
Can you pull apart the bottom connectors from the fuse block without disturbing the pin outs?
Does the fuse box replacement is plug and play
Great info and Diagnostic. I'm currently looking into a vehicle with some similar issues. I just have a quick question as to the Fuse Box design.... Are they Similar in multiple years or differ? I have an 2012 Chevy Malibu LT.. Issue is crank No start. Thanks for the Info. I just Subscribed for more of your content, great work.
Thank you thatnk you very much i have the exact same car and problem i almost bought the starter
Where can I buy a new fuse box ?
How do you take apart the fuse box where it exposes the copper wiring and how do you put it back together without causing damage?
I have the same question!
@@lumi2798I figured it out if you haven't gotten to it yet
Did you fix this board did it work in long run
How do I grind the screws to do disassemble fuse box to get to copper wires , I have the same problem with my 05 Chevy Malibu 2.2 ecotec engine
Awesome troubleshooting man! I'm having the same problem with my 2006 Malibu SS I've already changed out the starter and fuses still same problem... could this be the same problem even if my car is a older model? Car starts great durning cold weather once it gets alittle warm outside and running it all day problem comes back. Thank you in advance.
my mother in law has Saturn Aura 200u and this is the exact problem. Thank you, I just wonder how do I remove the fuse box and open it before finding that cracked copper wire.
I have this issue on a 2011 malibu. Can it just be soldered at the crack?😅
Did the vehicle start after soldering and putting everything back together???
Yes! It’s been several years since I did the repair and the car still starts with no issues.
Hey boss man badass video a very explanatory.I have a question. What's the status of the car that you did this too??did it have any more issues with a no crank no start or did it work properly later on. Thanks in advance
I know the owner personally. She drove it for almost 4 years without issue before she eventually sold it.
How do you open the fuse box to get to the copper lines? I’m having a very hard time trying to diagnose correctly the condition of the box. I can’t just buy another fuse box if it’s not the problem of my car.
Same issue in my 2012 malibu
How do you open the box ,i all ready try to open but is not posible
smart diagnosis.thanks
Thank you!
@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO found the same problem
Pure genius 👍
So should I buy a new fuse box? Im having the same problem with the same exact car.
Very helpful video is there a mechanic located in Chicago who can do this on my 2011 Malibu I believe this is what going on with my car.
Having the same problem on a 07 aura 3.5. Replaced the fuse box same issue. Any suggestions?
