I'm guessing the only reason it was added was because of ink mines being lethal, so once that was changed they saw no reason to bring it back. Ngl though, I did like having it for suction bombs.
17:23 to this day i can't wrap my head around why the splatoon 2 devs decided bringing splatoon 1's most infamous ability back for most weapons was a good idea.
11:51 I'm guessing recon would be much more useful in comp or just playing with a team in general cuz it allows to callout enemy locations, flanks etc to ur teammates
Honestly, I am so glad that straight damage buffs have not made it to Splatoon 3. The closest thing we have to a straight damage buff to weapons is Special Power Up, Sub Power Up and Object Shredder. Those effect certain aspects of how the weapon's kit deals damage, but they never directly buff the weapon's damage.
11:37 I miss Recon. I would always sneak around the enemy team, and (after dying and having to sneak over again) knowing if the enemy team was clumped up or moving in a certain direction was often enough information to plan out the next sneak attack. I didnt miss the gear slot outside of spawn, since aiming at their back was going to guarantee me the kill anyways. -sighs- You can still make educated guesses by looking at ink trails, and Haunt helps a bit, but I still miss the Splatoon 1 days. And the Splatoon 1 maps, oh god.
bad collision checking. Looks like while going over the edge, the game mistook his position as being below the floor at the top as he clipped through the corner, and he fell through
So this is why it always feels wrong whenever I have ink resistance on non shoes. I completely forgot it worked like that in splat 1 but that makes so much sense now. Just me subconsciously being like "wait this isn't right" since I started playing near the beginning of splat 1
@@chuuniii As someone who never experienced splat1, an ability that makes walking safer doesn't make sense on something that isn't a shoe no matter how you spin it - unless they were to change it to "Defense Up DX" and rework it slightly, but then that's not ink resistance anymore ROFL
15:07 How this reads to me is that the 40% and 20% values they list here are with no Damage Up or Defence Up taken into consideration, not that they aren't factored in by the game itself.
@@SnoFitzroyYeah, that wasn’t added until S2. Reason Recon existed was mostly likely due to the Gamepad being used for jumping and the map, which took up a lot of space
The benefit of recon is to make safer super jumps with the additional information provided by the ability, unfortunately stealth jump is way better than it in this regard
Considering we have things like thermal ink, it feels weird that they removed bomb sniffer
I need bomb sniffer 😭

I main chargers and I can confidently say it might not be the best but god damn when it synergises it synergises WELL with pencil and Bamboo
I use Thermal Ink for Custom Dualie Squelcher I would love Bomb Sniffer
They removed it cuz squids can’t sniff ofc
Seeing the Hammerhead footage at 3:42 I thought, "Wow Hammerhead was cool, they should bring it back." And then I remembered.
I mean tbh it was still bad in Splatoon 1 anyway, it was just kind of bad for different reasons.

Still sad Salt spray Rig is still gone.
Also miss the old bubble shield. It was my fav special.

17:06 did you fall through the floor? Lmao?

This vid reminded me that ink resistance used to be a shoe exclusive ability that you couldn’t stack :0

Actually, recon kinda DID get a glow up. It just doesn’t require the ability to tell you who has what weapons.
Wait, THAT'S what it did??? That's wasn't just a built in feature already???

I imagine bomb range up, being favored by Enperry had they existed in Splatoon 1.
I love finding new underrated splatubers!

Well hello small Splatoon channel! Have my sub!
I used recon as it was fun to know where everyone was when I super jumped out of spawn after getting killed lol
love your videos so much bro keep it up
Hold up, what happened here 17:05
You could just homebrew your wii u there's a bunch of easy apps that swap the gamepad display to the tv
#bringbackbombsniffer
When do you think you’ll end up doing damage up, defense up and main power up?
look at dis guy
It didn't pierce
ya thought piercing was added in splatoon 2
i think he forgot cold blooded
😔
Technically Cold Blooded was in Splatoon 2 at a point in time but it was replaced with Bomb Defense DX
you forgot ink res
Ink Res’ only difference is it was only on shoes and not stackable
