Christopher Dessources delirium tremens is no joke, cold turkey and booze can kill ya.

not sure people know but if you have a lava lamp you do, they have beer bottle caps...for no good reason
We live in a world that’s dumb enough to the point of having to remind people not to drink from lava lamps
For some reason I came for the same thing
My sister had one of those when I was little. I really was interested what it would taste like especially since they are look like normal drinking bottles under the stand and cover.
But I never opened it fearing she would beat me up over this
@@XShaneX19 Ah, when the fear of being punished is stronger than logic.
This could have been me, when I was an active alcoholic. I never drank a lava lamp, but I've had seizures and DTs, and when you're experiencing withdrawals that bad, anything alcoholic or similar to alcohol will look like a saving grace, because your brain is screaming for liquor. Alcohol withdrawal is no joke, it's serious as hell, painful as hell, and deadly.
As a recovering opiate addict who was on the methadone program, I've often wondered why there isnt a similar program for alcoholics, where they give people just enough booze to stop the withdrawals without getting them drunk, then slowly ween them down... There really should be, since alcohol withdrawal can be so deadly...
Recovering alcoholic myself and that shit is allllll true dude. U will feel so desperate for anything to relieve the dts. Stay strong dude. Its hard i know
@@TheLokiBiz they do have a pill that's not yet legal in the US but in the UK for alcoholics who want to quit. It's basically reverse Pavlov's dogs. We learn to associate drinking with euphoria and lack of negative emotions. The pill is what u take before u plan on drinking. Once u start drinking, u get violently ill and vomit to the point where u basically cant do anything but lay in bed. So basically its unteaching alcoholics to associate alcohol with pleasure and instead associate it with being sick. I so wish they had this available in the US. Rehab programs are not as successful as they're made out to be. Abstinence rarely is successful because if u tell me that i cant have something that seemed to be working for me ever again, well whats to stop me from going there again when i get discharged? People cant watch me all the time thus we have relapse. If u can retrain your brain to see alcohol as something that is negative youll have way better results. Plus people make a lot of money off addicts. The entire programs are designed for u to relapse because when u relapse, u pay for treatment again... And again etc
@@nonameface2811 What you say is true. And don't even get me started on the 12 Step Program lol
@@TheLokiBiz In some countries in some hospitals they will treat your withdrawals by injecting you with a little alcohol over a period of time just so that you don't get DTs. Otherwise in a hospital or rehab, you usually get benzodiazapines if you have serious withdrawals - but in a lot of hospitals/rehabs, they don't give a single shit lol. There's a medication called antabuse that makes you puke for a long time if you drink alcohol, but it's not good for the liver so it's not prescribed to people who already damaged their liver a lot by alcohol (maybe it is somewhere but not here). There's also naltrexone and campral, which take away the 'euphoria' feeling you get when drinking as well as taking away the cravings
This really highlights the need to be completely honest with your doctors, no matter how embarrassing it might be. If anyone needs to know everything, it's the people trying to save you or solve your health problems.
I was thinking how pissed those doctors must have been that she stayed silent for so long. If my mechanic spent the day trying to diagnose why my car wouldnt start, and later told him that I had poured a lava lamp into the engine, he probably wouldnt want to talk to me anymore.
Something to add to this is no medical emergency is embarrassing when getting clean. He was not rational when he did what he did, his brain was on fire and believed (probably correctly) that it needed alcohol to survive.
@@tomifost I’m sure medical professionals are used to it, and are probably even trained on it.
If my husband was unresponsive in the hospital, I'd probably tell the staff everything he did in the last five years, if they let me.

An acquaintance of mine knew someone who had gotten lost in the desert temporarily. Fortunately they stumbled across a shed by an inhabited house. Desperate for water the man went into the shed and drank the first bottle he came across. What he had drunk was a poison used in getting rid of parasitic worms in donkeys. He suffered multiple health issues throughout the rest of his life from what I remember. Apparently it was a chemical doctors had never experienced with a poisoning case before so they were figuring out exactly how to treat it.

Lava lamps are extremely difficult to get open, it's not like they have screw-on caps. I had to break the top off with a c clamp as a kid to get it open. Putting this together with the fact that the wife didn't immediately take him to the hospital when she realized he drank it, and didn't tell the doctors that he drank it, makes me think she intentionally poisoned him
Yeah thats weird af, and also lava lamps are supposed to be like VERY hot when you touch them (from the heating for the bubbles) so how did he casually had the time to down it?He should have dropped it by getting burned before being able to open and drink it
@@resonantVoid I was wondering if it was hot when he drank it too. No way that wouldn't cause issues being a heated substance.
I was thinking the same
Refer to Safety Third #16 35:05, where he said the lava lamp had a bottle cap. It is probably a DIY lava lamp.

Honestly I don't blame the woman for not immediately thinking about the lava lamp. We're primed by this video and it's title to know that the exact cause is the lava lamp. We're hearing this from the position of hindsight with emotional detachment. However put yourself in her position. She's in the midst of an extremely traumatic and helpless moment watching your husband seizing. She knows he's going through withdrawal and severe seizures can very common with extreme withdrawal. If you have ever personally witnessed someone first hand go through AWS and/or DTs it would be very easy to assume the symptoms were the result of that. Your mind jumps to the most obvious cause. I know my mind would immediately jump to that. In the last month I watched someone I love go through AWS who was determined to do it without medical help. I was constantly on high alert for seizure activity. The tremors can be so bad and distressing to watch. In moments of heightened fear it can be easy to forget some things that later seem obvious. Remember she wasn't the only one who immediately assumed it was AWS. The doctors did too. It wasn't until that was ruled out that she had to think of other causes. That's probably when she remembered it. Yes, there are a lot of people who hide information on purpose but sometimes it's incidental.
Thank you so much, for pointing out how trauma and panic are gonna be at the forefront for patients and their families! In so many medical emergencies, discovery of the cause is prioritized below starting treatment.
It urks me how comments mock the people who suffered and/or died in these case studies, and it feels so mean spirited and cruel. It's likely that viewers didn't know any of this biochemistry prior to watching the video.
Watching a lot of true crime where people got poisoned with anti-freeze (same effect what is happening here), your best shot at survival is immediately getting stupidly drunk. Though in this case, that wasn't the best answer from someone who was suffering from withdrawal and that makes it a very interesting case.
Getting drunk was still his best choice (excluding the more modern pharmacological agents). You can get off of the alcohol later. It can 100% wait. Just because he has an addiction to alcohol doesn't mean that it magically just become a non treatment
Was it the one where the lady told on herself because she called it "antifree" and she wrote that in the "suicide" note?

Outpatient pharmacist here. Although most of the clinical stuff here is beyond my scope, I appreciate the information about PEG, as we see it often as a laxative and in bowel prep kits. I never realized there were both low and high molecular weight versions with different pharmacological effects. Thanks doc!
What impressed me the most was that AW craved for the Lava lamp fluid, which contained a chemical similar to Ethanol and that would bound to the same enzymes. This is very interesting to me, because Im pretty sure AW didn‘t know about that.
The cravings of our body often are incredibly smart on a level that is very strange sometimes.
I personally always listen to my body, when I crave something very specific I make sure to eat it, because often it‘s exactly what your body needs.
In this case it went wrong ofc, but it still represents the precision of cravings.

@madderthanhatters Because it says she eventually told them about it, so she must've known.
“A kidneys mistakenly drank a dad at bedtime, this is what happened to his lava lamp.”
Something small is off about his story though. I have owned lava lamps. They get extremely hot when turned on long enough for the wax to melt and start blobbing to the top. (Hence why they are notorious fire risks). You burn your hand if you just pick it up after being on for over an hour. If he saw moving wax blobs, then it was already burning hot and if he then "one shoted" the entire lamp, his throat and mouth should be burned and the doctors would find out sooner. Maybe it was only on long enough for the wax to just start moving before he drank it... You know what, never mind.
Yeah, and also my lava lamp has a cap that’s not a screw cap.. I don’t really see how he could’ve opened it while in a delirious state, that just seems far fetched.
@@Dan-eo5esThe lava lamps (I no longer have) didn’t even open.
This creator dramatizes medical cases and produces them on video. If you watch enough of his videos, you will see that he uses some of the same story lines to lead up to the ER visit.
Doctors rarely ever know the entire story of how someone came to ingest whatever poison they're being treated for and also rarely ask. Once they know what they're looking and treating for, they stop there.
Anyone who has ever seen a lava lamp knows that it must be hot to work. This doctor certainly knows it too, but told the story for effect and not accuracy, as he could not possibly have those details.
Find his videos on the guy who ate silica gel and the guy who ate glow sticks. They have the exact same lead-in story with completely different outcomes.
@@Dan-eo5es Did that cap happen to look like a beer bottle cap? Because I've seen lava lamps with those caps. I've also seen people remove those caps while nearly comatose as well as removing them with their own body parts.... so it's not THAT implausible... especially for an alcoholic.
Well, i collect lavalamps and i see what you mean, BUT if its in the state of warming up its no problem to drink it without getting burned. Also it depends on the formula used by different manufacturers, so there are lamps with a low melting point and lower working temperature (e.g. Mathos Neo). Opening the bottle is also not a problem as most US or Chinese made lamps has a standard beer bottle cap instead of a sealed and glued screw-on cap. But mostly i think that not the wax is the problem but its more likely the special liquid its floating in, as this is not only simple colored water.

Bruhhh that lava lamp looks dlishhhh
ThunderGamer 2 No, you don’t use “an” for anything other than vowels. If there aeiou, any of those letters after a need to be an.
What a cool channel this is!! Glad I stumbled on it
This channel convinced me to Google my medication's interactions with caffeine before drinking an energy drink. Turns out it could have given me a heart attack.
Thanks for scaring me into caution.
"AW saw a lava lamp, there must be some nice drink inside, he thought" my favourite line of all time.
I mean, to be fair, anyone who has seen a lava lamp has had ye same thought at Least once.
Would have been ten times better if he said "must be some nice drank".
@duckhatfedora
Ever seen or heard of the Nuero drinks? They are shaped just like a lava lamp but the lower half outside diameter is a little smaller tho but yeah I love the nuero drinks especially the nuerosleep, it's the orange bottle.
Some people say they look like rockets!
as soon as i saw the title i clicked because i just really needed to know how a grown man drank an entire lava lamp on ACCIDENT
I mean...how do you know until you try it😅🙄
Man I hate when I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get my damn lava lamp open for a refreshing drink.
Yeah. That sucks. They also need to create bigger tanks of Clorox bleach, i love the refreshing taste.
*yes*
Yea well I can't get my fucking tide pods open!
It’s better if you let it cool down into a gello
same 😔👊
I LOVE this channel.
However every time I sneeze now
I wonder if I'm dying.
How do you "accidentally" drink a lava lamp? You have to intentionally remove pieces of it to gain access to the liquid.....
Actually it’s not too hard to take apart
@@marciaclaesson7844 Yeah but the fact that you have to take it apart still means it wasn't an accident
Dude's production values have skyrocketed. When was the last time you saw this many actors in his dramatizations?
arch entity he doesn’t even need it. I could listen to his narrations with watch his medical animations all day.
im pretty sure most of that is stock footage
@@pleasedont140 too specific to be stock footage.
@@pleasedont140 He credits them with corresponding pictures at the end, so I doubt it's stock.
That’s what 1.1M subs does for you. If he ticks up output slightly with continued improved content, he could hit 2-3 million.
“Mistakenly drank a lava lamp...”
...y’know, like you do from time to time. 🤦🏼♀️
Yeah, I hate when that happens.
Even idubbbz isn't stupid enough to see a lava lamp and go "MMMMMM YUMMY"
Yeah, we've all been there... one thing leads to another, and next thing you know, you drank another lava lamp...
Right, just how I drank kerosene the other day and mistook it for vodka. The video on my mistake will air later 😂😂 .
I hate it when that happens!!
At first I had to ask “how the hell do you accidentally drink a lava lamp?” But withdrawal makes sense
I just wish you’d taught me back in the day! ❤️
"His organs are shutting down!"
*Wife stays silent still*
She wanted him to die lol
Definitely
Definitely 💯% 👌
I honestly believe she’d had enough.
She was probably still mad after he beat her and the kids
She wouldn't have called the ambulance if that was the case
Husband: **literally dying**
Wife: oh he’s just on alcohol withdrawal
**several painful hours later**
Wife: he also drank a lava lamp btw. Not like that’s bad or anything, right?
Depending on how much he was drinking the alcohol withdrawals alone very well could’ve killed him, with some shared symptoms as well
My thinking was she wanted out of the relationship and then the guilt and intensity of situation made her 'remember' that he drank the lava lamp. xD
Also It’s normal for health professionals to assume the most obvious cause and forget to check for other causes. So hard to blame a civilian.
little jo but that’s the problem, they didn’t know SHE DID, If she said something when they came in they could have saved him permanently from that. But she waited last second to be like “Oh,He Drank a lava lamp last night.”
Nah, of course not. Drinking a lava lamp is perfectly normal lol.
I'm kidding
i love the serious finger point you do when you say "presenting"
Great video, thanks Dr Anthony. Always top information!
Gotta get me a wife that'd tell the doctors if I drank lava lamp or not.
Limmeh 😂👌🏼👍🏻
Wait, you don't already put that in your Tinder profile like everyone else?
You'd be surprised how many omit to tell vital details at the hospitals.
edit: Some would even tell lies to hide other 'things'.
Lmao
or not? so basically just any wife
Don't you just hate it when you drink your lava lamp accidentally
happens to me every time
Eeeeeeeee
It does have a regular bottle top and that's stupid.
Yea, its terrible.
YEAH, one time a drank my whole ten pack. I was drunk...
How do you accidentally drink a lava lamp? Oh! He drank it on purpose!
Even though your channel aggravates my anxiety, dammit I subscribed anyway!
A man ate 100 mars bars every day.
This is what happened to the solar system.
Oh shi-
LOL... love this type of comments on this channel's videos

i saw the title and i was like *how do you accidentally drink a lava lamp*

Gotta go fast then shoot a heavy in the fucking face
Alcohol withdrawal apparently
Looks like he lured your ass just like he wanted with that click bait ass title
Yeah same
Ngl no clue how tf he survived that one but I guess the doctors just did a great job. I would’ve thought when he said ‘parts of his kidneys were dying off’ that the guy was screwed
yo this lava lamp hits different at 3 AM 🗣💯
Man eats a kidney. This is what happened to his lava lamp
Edit: why the fuck did this have so much likes cuz this is stupid
Not again cannibal dave, you're hallucinating aren't you?
Kidney eats man, this is what happens to its lava lamp
Kidney eats lava man. This is what happens to his lamp.
Man eats man. THIS IS GAY!!
Laughing so much at the comments 😂😂😂😂🤣
“Oh yeah.... he drank a whole lava lamp last night!”
She wanted him dead
@@pierluigiadreani2159 That makes sense. He hurt his family (It must have been bad for a raging alcoholic to suddenly say "Nope. Cold turkey for me") She was probably hoping he would die.
@@ptonpc if that was true she wouldn't call the ambulance
@@pierluigiadreani2159 it really sounds like that. Of course, that conclusion may have informed the acting and reinforced it in the reenactment. But I think it's a definite possibility.
@@fleurcode You would, if you didn't want to seem guilty. ;)
My wife's a recovering alcoholic, 7 years sober. Don't give up. We now have a 6yo little boy and an extremely happy family.
I love how you always say names with 2 words
Husband : *dies*
Woman : oh yeah he drunk a lava lamp
I think there are good chance that his wife is meant to kill him, however, seeing her husband in pain, seeing death lingering between his eye, she decide that she still need her husband, maybe another chance, or at least, he doesn't deserve to die this way.
But then, in many case, it would be too late.

Going through the DTs, people believe incredible things and exhibit extreme behavior they wouldn't have remotely done even while drunk.
@MattDSTNY haha got that epic victory royale on him
Thats how Kanye got Kim.
After binging these for 2 hours I came to the conclusion that doctor is just code for medical detective
Thank you, very informative!

Alcohol withdrawals plus sleep deprivation.
@B A he wasn't drunk he was in withdrawals.
Mistakenly, not accidentally. Accidentally implies the result wasn't expected. Mistakenly implies it was...
