I filmed this front row back in 2011 when living in Virginia...amazing performance and incredible night of playing. This is the original full quality version of the video.
Buckethead performing Soothsayer live at Awful Arthur's Towers, Roanoke Virginia on September 8th 2011. Unless you've been front row center its hard to explain quite how insanely loud Big B's rig is so I inserted the guitarless backing track to Soothsayer underneath the video so that you can actually hear the drums as in the original video i took it lacks the backing track.
Hope you enjoy!
I saw him live... it was unreal. Every performance has a little nuanced difference. He played for hours too. The man was made for this. For me, he is the GOAT.
I can't comprehend how it is possible to play this song live this clean. Buckethead is not human.
Saw him live in 2012. My then girlfriend (who had much better musical taste and experience than I did at the time) insisted that I go to a show with her. I had no idea even what genre of music to expect.
He played for about an hour and a half, and it was the closest thing to a religious experience I've ever had without LSD or mushrooms.
One of the best nights of my entire life. I couldn't stop thinking "No. There's no way. Holy shit. No... this isn't possible..." And I stood there for 90 minutes with my jaw dropped and trying not to blink, dumb look on my face like an alien just landed on my front lawn and started setting up a campsite. It was incomprehensible what I was hearing and witnessing.
This is, by the way, the best version of Soothsayer on the internet. But seeing it live is ten times more... everything.
Holy Moly! I am 65 and I am a fan 🤯
Out of literally millions of human beings to ever place their hands on a guitar, I am thinking of a number less than 100 that can take a chunk of wood and steel and make it drip with the passion of a thousand lifetimes. Brian Patrick Carroll Is on that list….🤘🏻
Well said Scot
I'm curious of a few more that's on the top of your list
Freak of nature
Fully agree
I'm a month in and can almost play anything I hear, EXCEPT BUCKETHEAD! 🤪
The best guitarist in the world wants absolutely no recognition. Buckethead is an enigma wrapped in a mystery. And he just makes that guitar do everything he wants. What an amazing performance.
Look at the emotion he shows on his face while he's playing!🙂
I know , right .
Gotta LOVE this guy / guitarist !
Like this 👉🗿
He is always so serious with his expression.
Haha smartass
🤦🤣
Don't know how many hours he has practiced and sacrificed other activities, but it has no doubt paid off in the fact that he has a voice on that instrument that few have developed. A true master and mesmerizer of the fret board. I appreciate the time put in and what he has given to us. Thanks for posting.
His fingers are like insect legs, thin and delicate but surprisingly powerful and fast. But of course those are just instruments of his artistry. It all comes from the heart. Long live Buckethead.
I just found him 2 weeks ago and I'm upset I didn't sooner. His music wakes my soul.. I'm literally tearing up.. I'm just blown away that there's no lyrics yet its touched my heart..
This man has been around for millions of years
Millions of moments.
Soothsayer was how I found Buckethead, wish I would have found him sooner. This is a great version, I love them all. A great entry into his vast library of tracks. If you like this and haven’t heard much else, I would suggest Nottingham Lace, Sunbursts, Eerie Canal, disintegration mirrors, Claymation Courtyard, Night of the Slunk, Jordan, Lebrontron, A Familiar Spirit, Pepper’s Ghost, Hold me Forever (pike 65) just to name a few. I listen to Buckethead while I work daily to rock out and get in the zone. A truly great individual on so many levels. Long live King Buckethead.
Soothsayer broke me in too. First time I heard it, I played it 10 or 11 times in a row...........amazed.
Thanks for the suggestions been looking to dig deeper into his discog but I do not know where to start
Thanks I'm just getting into his music now!
Lurker at the threshold 👍🏼
@@col29591000% agree
People think Buckethead has no vocals but he speaks volumes through his guitar that could never be expressed in words.
I have said this since I've started listening to him in '06. I listen to him literally every single day. He has so much music you'll be dead before you hear it all lol.
Aye . The Goat that was raised by chickens strikes again. Woo!
He has vocals, they translate through Herbie.
Born in coupe raised in A Cage
Children feared him critics raved
He's alive he's half dead
Look out yall it's buckethead
He makes that guitar wail and scream. He doesn't even need to use his lips. Friggin fingers do ALL the talking.
This may be the best Soothsayer. Fast, relaxed, in the zone. The speed and accuracy seems beyond human ability.
The part "The speed and accuracy seems beyond human ability." just too exaggerated
make ya wanna smoke one.....
The Doo plays it better
@@triasnursanti okay sensei
@@triasnursanti wait… do you actually think Bucket is a human?
I am stunned i did not discover this guy until recently as i have listened to rock music my entire life. So glad i found him. A magnificent and wonderful talent! A gift to us all!
The man's a machine..
With a heart
Nah he a bucket full of soul
The machine happens to be a man...
A diety
Yes. Made by Honda apparently.
most underated guitarist ever, its time he gets the credit
My son took me to 2 buckethead show I'm 62 and this is the Greatest guitar 🎸 player ever Rock On Forever 🤘
Who would give this a thumbs down? Buckethead's technique is always flawless and the emotion he can evoke is evident in every live version of "Soothsayer" I've seen
This guy plays music that MUSICIANS listen to. He's a true ARTIST!!
TRUE
I am a flamenco guitarist so my ear is used to only listening to the best flamenco guitarists, I really don't feel the need to listen to other types of music.
But Buckethead is the only exception I make to that rule.
Buckethead deserves to be recognized as one of the all time great guitarists. The man is unbelievable. In a guitar battle, it would be difficult for anyone to outperform him.
YES
that's impossible
Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani would all hold their own
One could outplay him.. But he's not alive...
@@Newcastle423 who do u think he learned from and was influenced by? those 3 names and many more... to say 1 guitar player is better than another is what's really impossible, each players personality and individuality comes through so it really comes down to personal preference, what appeals to 1 person may not appeal to another it doesnt mean 1 is actually better than another..... u know?
If you come into that solo randomly you're just lost, but if you catch it from the start you're lost in the moment forever...
I hope his health improves, this man has been an influence to so many
Kind of need this right now. Holding on by a few threads, but not giving up. Thank you bucket head. The passion and feeling that comes through your playing is a great inspiration.
Hang in there brother ✌🏼🎭
@N G never surrender! Sorry, galaxy quest. Lol.
my dude, i saw your comment and i hope im not too late. you need to rock on and keep showing this world that people like us can still make it, im rooting for you. no matter what not that you are loved. you got this bro.
We are your extra threads brother, we're all struggling in this together ❤
It could be worse... you could be obsessed with Cardi B or something like that 😄
May God bless you
I was there too, he is the best! Couldn't believe I finally got to see him live. So lucky and only $20. True artist & talent. Miss Awful Arthur's at Towers.
This guy's a god given genious...he is one of the only guitarists to put real emotion and skill into his music.
Oh my God. I'm so glad I took the time out to finally check out Buckethead. The man is legitimately a soothsayer.
i am no aficionado on music but i have lived through 6 decades of rock music with some of the greatest guitarist ever.... I truly believe this man should be acclaimed as one of the greatest in the top 10 he is awesome W)W!
100% spot on! I couldn't agree more.
actually not one of but THE GREATEST
It ain't just about the music, it's about connecting with it, emotionally.
Man this legit made me cry. Music is such a beautiful thing. You truly get to hear such depths of relatable emotion thru it. This man is a master of being an open channel
This man is very serious. It's strange how he never smiles. 🤔
Stroke. .. smoke
I also want to add I find this to be the most emotional version of this song I've heard him do. Yeah, he's an amazing shredder but in this version he proves he's able to be extremely emotional at the same time. I agree, this is the best version of the song he's done.
Still a LEGEND to this day. Long live Buckethead!
Legend has it that two writers perished trying to transcribe this version. 😂
I’ve just recently found this magnificent guitar God last week. Have no idea where I’ve been the past 20 yrs. I love this tune. Lots of catching up to dai
Rock on, Melissa ! 💕😘
If you haven't yet check out the the album "Hold me Forever". I like to listen to the whole thing in one go as if it was one song, and it has a great range of his styles.
Yes, this is one of the best Soothsayer versions out there. The absolute best is seeing it live. Twice so far in this vida loca, have to see him again. He. Ya live forever, but I want to see him again in the now.
Man, I've liked, subscribed, heard this song performed live 10x or more, have 25+ renditions downloaded, and yet I keep revisiting this iteration in my RUclips feed... This is one of very few songs I can feel in my bones that corresponds to any emotion I may be experiencing... Just penetrates...
HIS GUITAR TALKS TO THE SOUL. FEB. 2023
Thank you Buckethead, this hits my soul in a way that's indescribable
still here 10/2021....((defying whats humanly possible)) this is beautifully INSANE
some of best 9 minutes of my life I spent listening this. now it's my favourite video on whole internet. I can not put into words what buckethead's music manages to do to me. God bless
He is amazing guitar 🎸 play My hat is off to you Sir Bucket head 👏👏👏🤟🤟
You mean, your bucket is off
Amazing stunning awesome,I love you Buckethead!!!U kill it!!!
It's everything in one recording. I'm just listening, I cannot move. Thank you, man. THANK YOU...
I first heard him this year (2023) and was blown away by not only his writing but his technical skills are second to no one! I may have to disagree with you on this is the best version out there. I have one I saved (on a different channel) that would give this one a run, although he seems to be adding a lot to this version. For some great and for others not so great but either way he's a amazing musician.. EDIT: Now that I gave this version a few listens, I think this version is how he'd play in concert and the other version is more like what the album (yeah I'm that old) would sound like i.e. the studio version. Loved both so sweet, another version to add to my collection. Thanks... :)
Carlos was my guitar hero, then this guy buckethead comes around, I was born in 1960, so I grew up with the most iconic bands, we didn't know at the time, kicked my ass in best way possible, but I am taken aback by this incredible talent.
Tonight is the first time I've listened to Buckethead. Ohhhhh, myyyyyy, Wowwwww. That was just breathtakingly gorgeous. SOOOOO good. Absafreakinlutely beautiful. Where have i been. As the world 🌎 keeps getting worse i just wanna keep finding beautiful, creative forces of nature like this. Makes life worth living. 🎸🌹.
This truly is better than the other "best version". The like goes to you sir.
When a person can pick up a guitar and sing a song without uttering a single word and what's more... The entire world can hear it.
Only person I've been blessed enough to see be able to pull it off is definitely Buckethead.
I know I'm late to the game but this guy is fantastic. Stevie Ray and other greats would be proud. 😎🇺🇸
Oh me too. I never gave him a chance. But now starting with this video, it's time.
I've listened to alot of versions of this song, including at least one live performance, and this by far musically was one of, if not The, best I've put my ears on, thank you for capturing this.
We are on December 21, 2021 ... I think I have listened to Soothsayer countless times and I will continue to listen to it. Thank you StephenChesneyMusic and I wish you all a Merry Christmas. I wish the great Buckethead immortality
My GUIDES have dubbed you: "The incognito, master of maestros!" Hazzzzah! Namaste! Bravo! Encore!
2:18 Liick is a drug...please hold me!!! what an improv....awesome version, thanks Ste...great vid!!!
That is exactly the lick that stood out for me in a sublime version of a sublime instrumental song.
Coolest 2-second lick and not in any other Soothsayer version I've heard. First time, years ago, I was just listening without watching while walking, and I stopped dead in my tracks saying out loud "What wasTHAT!?", then replayed it over and over ...
And he never breaks a sweat. goat.
02:18 that lick is absolutely insane it sounds SO good and fits so well. I'd love to have it on the studio version!
Holy fuck!
First time I've had a song stuck in my head and I'm not annoyed by it. Masterful
I heard of buckethead back in the day but never listened or seen him...I'm blown away at this performance! thank you for the upload!

I'm over here just blaziñg through all my best Bmin licks! Buckethead IS the real deal....
I come here from time to time just to make sure this wasn't a dream I had 😃...thanks Bro for crafting your talent and sharing it ...
I simply laugh and smile when I hear this. It’s amazing how effortless he makes it look. Yet he’s probably so intense under the mask.
I get the most HORRIBLE stage fright man. I can play guitar pretty well, definitely well enough to perform, and I’ve performed in front of about 5 thousand people before. But I’d get so nervous, that I couldn’t look at the audience AT ALL without completely forgetting what I was doing and then my hands would start to shake lol. It was humiliating. But someone gave me some amazing advice, and said to wear sunglasses while I play to conceal my eyes. I know it’s just a psychological trick, but wow does it work!
So since I’ve learned that, I’ve always wondered if masked musicians wore the masks as a gimmick/stage persona, or if they did it to overcome anxiety from thousands of people expecting you to entertain them without any mistakes lol. Good god I love playing music but I hate that part for some reason 🤷🏻♂️.
Don’t know why your comment made me feel compelled to share all this with ya, 😆. But anyway, stay safe out there Robert and keep on listening to great music!
I post videos just for fun on occasion, if you’d ever like to check out my playing and make fun of it lol.
I will say though, in my defense, that I broke my back in 3 places and can still walk just fine for the most part, but I’ve got some nasty nerve damage. Unfortunately, it really affects my picking hand (right hand). I’m slowly overcoming it though, and learning how to just roll with it lol.
Ahhh I’ll shut up now. Have a good one man!
@@musicman0423
I totally empathise, man!! I hope your back is feeling better! Back in Uni, in my 20's, I felt like I had a lot more confidence--and there were a couple times where I actually experienced a kind of, "dissociation performing," feeling like I was free of fears and stuff, and I watched my hands just...flowing?... It was quite a great feeling, though since those one or two times that's occurred, I've never really been to reconnect with that musically-altered-state again. I've since felt horrid performance and recording anxieties, and YES!, my hands shake horribly and frustratingly, though sometimes I seemingly managed through it, my, "perfectionism" has held me back.
I try to breathe more: breathing out seems to help most while I focus during difficult passages. I also find that moving my fretting arm a bit, assists me in remembering to breathe and lessen shoulder tension.
@@musicman0423 - it's true! SOO many artists wear shades onstage - they don't all have sensitive eyes!
MM - I'm fairly sure you're are on the younger side - me? not so much, but, your focus on "perfect execution" when performing for an audience really rang an old and distant bell, so in addition to the shades, I would suggest practicing SLOWING DOWN every part of every song in your set - rhythm chord work, fills, every solo NOTE BY NOTE - really EXAGGERATE
every single part. Of course, you play up to tempo at rehearsal. Here's the key: Your Brain WILL ABSOLUTELY KNOW how many times you have focused on EVERY SINGLE NOTE you are about to perform - you have "blueprinted" in your Brain. Your fingers have almost infallible muscle memory - confident in Brain, let the fingers fly - a person can even play a piece completely "correctly", but if the execution is SO tense or timid THE EARS WILL.HEAR IT ESPECIALLY WITH THE GUITAR!
In this sense, it is better to play "sloppily" with a sassy attitude than to play all the right notes and sound constricted, tight or unsure of what you are playing. THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE RESPOND TO ! Find your personal onstage 'flourish' , meaning a PHYSICAL MOVEMENT THAT IS NATURAL TO YOU, and DO IT WHEN YOU PLAY!
Your now stone-confident playing will allow you to SWAGGER, and the EYES WILL SEE THAT AND THE EARS WILL HEAR THAT!!!
...the difference between wanting and being is doing...
@@musicman0423 same for me man! except I where a cap lol
That's the key to playing an instrument like the guitar or piano....using the absolute least amount of effort possible. Holding the pick lightly and keeping your fingers as close to the strings on both hands as possible. I actually learned that while playing guitar hero with my brother who is a concert pianist (he could play Rachmaninoff at 14 years old). He could beat every song on expert, and after playing awhile I could beat about a quarter of them on expert, but my hands would get so tired and during fast parts I absolutely mashed the buttons and would lose it and couldn't recover most of the time. My brother pointed out that I needed to be calm while playing and try to hit the keys without making any noise. That's how he played....silently, and fast as fuck. Later on I took up the actual guitar, and the same sentiment transfers over very well. Strumming practice, and low string height, and a more rounded neck (PRS rosewood is my favorite)make all the difference in my playing
he makes it look so easy
yeah how his face is not even showing any expression at all! fascinating!
well I think under his mask he is doing some awesomly funny jabberthehutt-faces :D
Seen this guy three times, he is awesome, and yes this IS the Best version!
This Dude can tear it up. Wailing...
I love these kinds of riffs.. nice chunky rhythm with some well played solos. What we all love about the best of the best songs ever written played
Excellent version ...truly amazing ...extra riffs he adds effortlessly are so appreciated !!

Right on, Pat ! 😘💕💕🎶
A level above Next Level.
He plays like he has ten fingers on one hand

by Golden Earring on their 1971 album, Seven Tears.
Thank You God for such amazing talent!I'm serious when I say I have a religious experience when listing to this!
Damn Buckethead is an extremely badass guitarist, absolutely phenomenal.
Speedy guitarists were a dime a dozen in the 80's which Buckethead seems to be a child of, but only a few can make a guitar sing and cry like he does. He's in elite company Imho.
Been listening to bucket for over 16 years now, and I always find myself shocked at just how godly he is with a guitar, like gotta be No. 1 surely ? I was obsessed when I found him back in the day trying to find pics of him with no mask and scouring the internet to find all his old weird videos, there was one when he was in a wardrobe talking through the pickup on a guitar making all sorts of weird shiz, he knows instruments inside and out, not just guitars…. Musical marvel !!!!
Super gifted feeling him 💯💯
Beautiful and moving, I can never watch his right hand the left hand has me spell bond 😳🤯
Reminds me of Jimmy Hendrix in a lot of ways love the way this dude just rolls with it making those sweet imperfections that somehow make perfection seem irrelevant ......that's music 🎵🎶🥵🥵

This is so awesome and it may actually be one the best versions on RUclips.
What I like is when a musician can express feeling. When an I can empathize with what the instrument is Is expressing. You don't have to be the fastest or the best but to leave the listener with emotions and a heartfelt moment is the best! Thank you you fing rock!!!!
