they are nice little figures. To be honest I needed troops in European field dress but I only had the Africa ones in my stash. Once I place them in my diorama I'm hoping it won't be too noticeable that the bare legs and arms are painted green lol.
Hi, andysanger7723. I normally use Winsor & Newton Galeria Matt/ Gloss or Pledge Clear floor varnish. You can also use PVA glue. Most varnish will work, but try to stick to an acrylic one if using those types of paints. The same goes for enamel.
Hi Gavin. I've just discovered your video. would like to know if I need to prime them before i paint the figures? also i asked about varnishes at hobby shops, they have clear and matt varnishes, which one work best on figures before painting them?
Hi martin thanks for watching. With these soft plastic figures it's important to wash and varnish them first before any other work starts. Most acrylic varnishes will do the trick, my go-to are Winsor & Newton Galeria Matt/ Gloss and Pledge Clear floor Polish/ wax. It doesn't matter if the varnish is a matt/Semigloss/ or Gloss, the important thing is that it will stick to the plastic. Once it's dried I will then use a primer over the top, normally I'll use Halfords (UK-based) Primer for this. The colour will depend on what colours you are painting the figures but grey is a good all round starting point. It is only then that I will begin painting the figures. If you just use only primer and paint it won't stick to this type of plastic and all your hard work will start to flake off.
Hi AnimationsCraftingmore, I understand your frustration, Its a problem I'm trying to fix. Once I'm able to get the zoom sorted I'll probably go back and do a new video. Thanks for watching.
Hi thanks for the question. I bought the Humbrol paints from the Airfix website. If you cant get these try Tamiya, and Revell paints also which you can pick up on Amazon as well as other brands of paint. the link is for Humbrol paints uk.humbrol.com/?langSelect=true
Hi Dave thanks for the question. I normally use two varnishes, Winsor & Newton and pledge floor polish/ Future Clear. Both work to help the paint stick on these soft plastic figures. The drying time is short with the Pledge but the Winsor & Newton drying time is a lot longer and that generally dictates which one I'm going to use.
Hi lorenzkorthout8926 thanks for the tip. I ve got the Airfix Waterloo diorama set that had this type of plastic. Because of that I've always put it off, Ill have to keep this in mind when I get around to working on it. Thanks for watching.
I never thought to varnish before. I know for my later models now tho. Thank you 😊
@@LydiaS-nhdh white pva glue will also work. Thanks for watching.
@@ReckshawScaleModels thank you kindly. 😁
Very timely. I'm also making an 8thArmy and Africa Korps army based on the 1/76 Airfix/Matchbox/Revell kits. Thanks for your videos.

does the same method apply for enamels?
@@MrSmith7726 sorry I completely missed your comment. I'm not sure if enamels but I don't see any reason why not.
It's a little bit hard to see but it looks really good!

Thanks for that,I notice you don’t use a wash when you finish, any reason for that or is it your preference.
@@davestansfield2387 Hi Dave, it's just my preference. I do use washes now and again but as a rule I don't bother.

wash them with white spirit and the plastic will harden up

I received them as a Christmas gift but you can find them on Airfix's website & Amazon
