Pro tip: Rather than build a huge solar grid and battery bank to run the base, just build the battery bank and attach to a few solar panels. Then connect to the base with a power switch. The base will only draw power when you switch it on but the panels will charge even when the game is off. You’ll always have power if you remember to turn off the lights before leaving.
Ya know tbh, I find that using glass cuboid rooms works better for solar farms. The batteries and solar panels just snap into place and there’s no need to wire everything. Additionally, the glass rooms don’t draw power and the outside squares - have pre-defined wiring points. Super easy and clean looking.
I use this concept with circle rooms stacked on each other to make a power bay tower. After that, you only need one wire from the "tower of power" running to anything that isn't snapped onto the structure grid.
I just spent about 45 minutes gathering a shitload of frost crystals for glass, and it turns out I can use my THOUSANDS of silicate powder for it?! WHAT?!
You can passively grow Frost crystals in your base, on your freighter, or both. I like to use the glass dome planter over the box shaped planter , because it makes harvesting much easier. I prefer the freighter planting over planting on a planet.
The reason I prefer planting on a freighter over planting on land. Is you you can bring your base with you. Also if you're able to get the teleport receiver for the freighter. It has a pretty long range. It allows you too access all your container storage.
I appreciate you sharing your experience with building underwater bases in No Man's Sky. While the underwater environments in this game may not be as rich or detailed as those in other titles like Subnautica, it's still cool that the game offers the ability to construct bases below the surface. Thanks for the video.
I just wish there was more functional / mechanical reason to build a base. The only real value is mining/gas. Well, and farming, and the questline about bases.
Also base NPCs for daily nanites, multi tool, (good for scrapping in the anomaly, but sometimes will give S class)) exocraft upgrade, and treasure. You are right though, main purpose is mining/gas harvesting. Good for unleashing ones creativity too.
There are lots of creative reasons to build a base. I happen to specialize in water ones. The base parts in NMS have a unique spect that is overlooked by many builders, and that is NO COLLISION! Well. Less than what we used to have. There are lots of ways to build bases the way you want (including building walkable basic structure sections under water.. which I have done). Really the limit is to what you can think up
I know this is way after this video. But, I built an under water base that have parts of it above water. I built a very large room using the glass cubes and it was all going well. But, for whatever reason, parts of the open area glitch that you end up swimming in that small area. Though no water is there. That's been the only thing I can't find a resolution to. I thought maybe I had too many bases so I started eliminating them since this helped with another base that I built in a mountain that whenever I turned on the game and visited I would have clear out parts of the mountain from the halls and rooms (which still isn't 100% either). I love my underwater base. It's cozy in some areas and party in another. I have varies areas to just leave the base and swim around with air stations. I put red lights for a dead end/risky area to green lights that are safe. I added some teleporters too. Yet, no matter what I do, I keep getting this invisible leakage. Anyhoo, thanks for the video!
Thanks for the great guide. One thing I've been wondering that I thought might be mentioned here, but wasn't - is there any good way to raise/lower the height of underwater/cuboid foundation pillar pieces without having to build something else to the height you want and then snapping the foundation to it and deleting the first thing you built? Seems weird that you have these foundation pillars that can be super tall if you do that, but if I try building one without that tactic, it will only be at lowest possible height on the ocean floor. They don't seem to stack either. Know of any better way to raise their height? thanks
I've noticed the salt can only be found in water maybe if searched for salt and star bulb it led you to a earth water planet haven't tried it myself just wondering.
Nice video 🙂 There's a bug that bares mentioning thou. Nothing games breaking thankfully, but it can cause you to drown in your base... Yup. If you build a large room out of a bunch of glass cuboid rooms - as I have to house my nautilon - it's as if water leaks in, and flows in between the snap points. Has anyone else had this? Quite likely I'm sure. But if there's a solution, I'd love to know.
i use the full size floor panels for my solar grids. i went as efficient as possible. each full floor panel can hold 9 solars and 12 batteries. i usually run a few panels of just solar, wiring up between rows and interconnecting each additional row. then the same with batteries. i run enough solar and batteries to run power to base, i also found C and B em hotspots, so i ran gererators to batteries and ran it back to base, using a single battery as a relay to the next battery. i'll run it however long it is. so far my longest power lines are about 500 from base. with generators, i run 10 floor panels with a generator on each and wired up and run one tile over to start the rows of batteries. from the battieries, run the relay again to run power back to base, so the generators will still run power while the solar is off for the night
Mate we should have colabbed! Lol. Well. I could have helped with ideas that no one else cares to know about. This video is a nice start. But there is so much more to underwater bases. At least in whats available outside of click together. And yes, i buuld underwater land pads that gets out the character into your base every time. So none of your base is above water level. I have one at 85u deep.. thats the land pads. And you never swim.
Kelp sac in particular. Doesn't really make sense that we can't grow it. They could make it that can only grow it underwater. (Though it does mean we have to go for a swim if we need kelp sac for whatever reason) Similar situation with the marrow bulb. I think that's what they're called. Glowing mushroomy things only found in caves. Neither of these things are particularly useful, but I can't remember the last time I harvested my gravitino balls
@@BunkzGaming Next time I play, I'll invite you to my funeral. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Gek Children's Hospital of Amino Hub in Alpha Quadrant. LOL. Maybe it's fixed, it's been years since I built an underwater base using cuboid rooms. Now I have to fire up the game!
I've had this... Didn't see this comment before posting. Hope it gets fixed too. Same thing happens on land. Not as dangerous though, unless you're on a extreme biome world
@BunkzGaming I had a question about some mods. I played on xbox from 2018-2022 off and on just finally got bored and put it down for a couple years. Got a monster pc and have been playing with about 30 visual enhancement, QOL fixes, better planet generation, busier space, hovering and reverse for starship, instant actions and dialogue, amongst others. The ones I've chosen are things I've always wanted to see in game. It makes no sense we can get mods for skyrim and fallout but not for nms. Since you play on PS I doubt you'll have an answer on how to properly run AMUMSS and merge mods.

that's a huge advice
UPDATE since Version 5.0: landing directly on water is now possible with the Aqua Jet uprade for you ship
you can also go to your wonders tab and find the planet with the deepest ocean you have discovered.
You can put a landingpad under water and still land.
nms still doesn't have REALLY high mountains or REALLY deep oceans. I wish they'd go a bit more crazy.

I wouodnt want that... snapping takes up more room. And I used hundreds of solar panels. I always build them on wood. Just looks good

As a big Subnautica fan I'm really hyped with the idea of doing a underwater base in nms, it will be perfect with a peeper exotic ship

I feel the same nms is better than most but I still find myself just building the bare minimum

To be honest I thought he was going to say that the first thing we need is a Squid ship lol
😂 they are great to be fair
I found a suitable water planet. May just head back and start things off there. I'll figure out the glyphs and such later.
What's the deepest ocean you've found in nms?
Great planet. Just created a base (mainly underwater) called 'Seawaters Sanctuary'. Enjoyed making it.

One reason why I have only two underwater bases left. They just don't seem to keep water out.

fun fact u dont need to shoot the pearls , if u get close enough u can harvest it by hand and it wont open aggressively

Would be nice to be able to create farms for resources you can only get under water.
