  • 2112: Something For Nothing
Something for nothing is another great song off 2112 and fun one to play. At 14 years old 2112 was the album that really lit a spark for me. I played drums to it everyday after school for years as my passion grew for playing drums. Here I am 41 years later doing it again and it's still a challenge. My Wife and I had fun recording and editing this video I hope you like it.
This was recorded with Sennheiser mics, a 421 on the floor tom and RODE M3 on the Hi Hat. Mixed live through a 16 ch Mackie Mixer with a stereo output to a sound devices. Mastered and compressed with original track in Protools and edited in IMovie.

2:52 You sneaked those two hi-hat barks in. I got to see Neil play this on Chromey in Houston the first week of January 1977, 2200 seat hall, 1700 of them empty.
When they returned to the same venue in October I had to race to get tickets, packed house. He had his tubular bells by then.

Most accurate drummer I've seen that can play The Professor!

"Something For Nothing" is one of my favorite Rush songs. Period. You flat out killed it. Well done. I enjoyed listening to your drum cover of this one. The "top to bottom drum roll" part is my favorite drum fill on this song.

@@adamjohnston2311 Saw you with a Tool shirt on. How about something off the undertow album? Thanks in advance!

Funny you should mention that. Next on the list is Zeppelin, a perfect circle then Tool Aniema then bottom off undertow.
I love tool. Danny is my favorite drummer. Just kick ass!

@@adamjohnston2311 I would like to sing and play bass on that(Bottom). I also have a guitar player that could get that done. Maybe do some sort of a collaboration.

Thanks Dave. It was fun and a challenge to dial the mix on my kit. I tried a few different mic set ups until I was happy.
