In 1976, most rock bands were telling us to party hard and break the rules. Then there's Rush saying quit your whining, get off you butt, and make your own rules! What a message to put out there to young impressionable minds. This one's still a favorite after all these years. Cheers!

All the world's a stage is still my go-to when I want some Rush. Been a fan since 76, when introduced to 2112. Then the live album came out, best live album ever, to this day. 👍

Me too! Best musical friends older sister played this song over and over, and I being a very young impressionable drummer in the high school band was literally astonished! Holy shit! And also being an up a coming guitar player listening to Alex's guitar work was an all inspiring awakening! Holy shit!

A buddy of mine put permanent waves in the cassette deck when I was in high school. I was enthralled. We are both drummers so he soon played 2112 for me and there was no turning back for me as a Rush fan. That was circa 1979. Thx for this Tim. Loved watching you hear it and appreciate it fresh. It, and much of early Rush, will continue to speak to you years from now in new ways... in waves. Like peeling onion. It feels like the more I become able to get more, there’s more to get.

This was real meat of the Rush 2112 sandwich. Had all the Rush albums, but this was my favorite tune in high school in '79 - gives a teen a kick in the pants to get moving in life. Crank to 11 and follow with Montrose's Space Station #5 to get you fired up in the morning.

So glad to hear you'll be doing the live albums in order as well as the full run of the studio material.
I have followed Rush since 1978, we got to see the band evolve & develop over 40yrs, an amazingly unique experience.
There's not a Rush album I don't like, they all have something to say & the musicianship is 2nd to none.
Enjoying the ride & it's a pleasure to watch someone of the younger generation take this project on & also enjoying so much quality music for the 1st time.
Rush rule. They are so definitely in that all-time 'premier league' of bands we have had so far.

Just a little odd trivia: the drum kit that Neil played on FBN, CoS and this record , nicknamed "Chromey", was sold at auction last year for $500,000 (plus buyer's premium) - I saw Neil playing those drums on the 2112 & ATWAS tours.

Until the guitar solo, the star of this track was Geddy: not only was the bass work top notch, but the lyric as written really must have been a bear to sing, and he makes it sound easy. Drums add so seamlessly to the whole that you don't even really notice them until near the end, but relistening reveals they add a lot throughout. Of course, enough can never be said of Alex's guitar!

I believe they're all available on the rush.com website, along with liner notes. I read the lyrics while listening to all these songs the first time many years ago. This was one of the big fold out album covers that had the lyrics inside, IIRC.

Great to experience 2112 in his whole again and fantastic to see the great appreciation of Tim. Epic from start till end. And although Rush is fantastic in their live performance and Farewell to kings have stunning songs, I am already looking forward to Hemispheres. Closing a huge musical era.
After that Rush will be different. No bad albums, no greater albums, but different. Always great songwriting and lyrics, extra ordinary musicianship, and developing.
Thanks again for the journey Tim.

Such a great closer and fun song. Sometimes I’ll sit around with a guitar strapped on without any particular purpose. Usually I’m mindlessly running through scales, technique drills, or even playing the melody whatever advertising jingle is on the tv or radio at the moment, but sometimes randomly playing songs I learned a long time ago. Something For Nothing is one of those things I’ll just start playing out of nowhere. Great song, great message, and great performance. It will be fun to see your reaction to All the World’s a Stage to hear the live versions of the first four albums.

I haven't looked at all the comments, but if no one has mentioned, what you'll find is Rush stayed with a 4 studio album, 1 live album format for quite some time (all the way to the end of the 90's), and to be honest, for your reactions, it will be the perfect 'break' from the studio versions to hear their live treatments!! Can't wait to see/hear your thoughts on All The World's a Stage!! Live from Massey Hall in Toronto baby!! (great venue - the acoustics are SUPERB!! Never saw Rush there, but a few other bands)
Indeed - Something For Nothing is probably one of the best album closers I can think of! Absolutely RAWKS! \m/
