    What a magnificent Johnson! The 521 cc sounds great! Grew up with a 1966 6 hp and a 1977 25 hp! 😀

    It should have a good strong stream from the tell tale and out of the exhaust relief holes,it might just be a plugged hose,does the motor run hot?

    Wow love this motor sounds very good!!! My question is do you have the motors for sale? Thanks

    @Doghouse594 The 1989 Lund s14 is rated at 35hp and the boat has no problem with 35hp.And he only Difference between the 30hp and the 1993 20hp Evinrude is the hi speed jet in the carburetor.Look it up in the parts book.You should see it when i put 2 35s on it

    I just bought this exact motor, did a compression test, it reads 165psi ! Is this cause for concern? Also, what should the idle rpm be set at?

  • @chrysleroutboarddude

    Yep sounds like a carb problem. What city are you in?

    I am familiar with the lake you are on. I have a 35HP Johnson that is getting real hot. Ran it last week and it seemed fine now last night it ran poorly and is over heating. I have a good stream from the tell tale but very little from the exhaust. Any recommendations on what to check?

    The intake manifolds are different also. The 20, 25, and 30 in 1993 all had different intakes

    Unfortunately I've got other issues as well. I had it running and idling well at home in drum of water but I just had it out on Owasso yesterday for a test run and it would idle, but as I opened it up it would bog down and want to stall unless I choked it. After 8 years of storage I think the carb needs a kit and possibly a fuel pump kit too. Hardly anyone around the cities works on these old outboards anymore.

    I've got a '78 Johnson 35hp. The water doesn't stream out of that port under the motor housing, it just sort of drips. Most of the water seems to come out of the two exhaust ports on the back of the shaft housing. I assume this is normal, but it always struck me as odd that a lot of other motors usually had it squirting out in a solid stream while this one doesn't. Thoughts?

    I have the same motor. J35RCRR. Wont run unless some fuel mixture is sprayed inside the carb. Fuel pump is pumping and fuel is in the carb. Carb has been rebuilt with almost surgery like cleanliness and fuel pump is new and have verified it pumping. I’m at a loss. Any advice would be great. Thanks

    Do all S-14 require a long shaft? Or only the deep transom models?

    Hi, are you a a boat engine collector?
    I love boat engines to, i had a 50s-60s Perkins 6hp outboard but unfortunately it got scrapped a few years ago :-(
    Was that a rare outboard?

    So you're telling me there is no difference in my 20HP 1988 evinrude and my 1985 30 except the carb but they list different part numbers for the internal engine components? My 30 has a reman power head but the lower unit needs seals and the transom tongue is a rusted wreck. You intrigued me.

  • @therealeeeo
    @therealeeeo 11 лет назад

    I don't think it runs hot, but I'm not sure how I'd tell. I might try taking the hose off and seeing if that's the issue. At this point it's nothing but an regular drip, definitely not a steady stream. I do get a good amount of water out of the exhaust holes though.

  • @chrysleroutboarddude

    @thatguy360ful You might need to try a drfferent prop like a10 1/4x9

    I have a similar motor and running it on a lowe 1440 andt he tiller handle pulls alittle hard to the port at full throttle and on longer runs is alittle tiring to hold straight.Could you tell me if I can do anything to help it to steer easier?I thought about moving it left or right on the transom to see if that helps?Is this a possibility?thanks

    • @RustyShakleford1
      @RustyShakleford1 7 лет назад

      newyota1 tighten up the steering tension bolt under the cowlin of the motor above the transom mount

    Yes on a lot of motor's you cannot get more hp with just a carb swap.You will not get 15hp out of a 9.9 for the reasons that you stated.But on the omc 1984-1999 25-35hp have the same part# for the exhaust tuner,intake manifold,reed valve's,engine block,piston's,crankshaft,con rod's.And on some years the only part# that is different is the hi speed jet in the carb.The 20hp has a different intake manifold and carb but the exhaust tuner is the same.So yes you can make a 35 in stock form out of a 20

      Hi chrysleroutboarddude! I have just inherited a little fibreglass boat from my Grandad with an 1984 30hp Johnson (J30ELCRR).
      Do you know if this info about the hi speed jet would apply to this engine?
      Thanks!

    Man, my '73 seahorse 35 must nit be doing good if this is how fast a 14 footer is supposed to go with it. I was hitting 15mph tops.
    How much would it be to get one repaired or just serviced? Got the boat, trailer and engine for a total of 200 bucks.

    you said "i just built" that motor. if you had to do pistons, rings, etc. can you PM me how much that might have cost you? i'm trying to make a decision on buying a short shaft 1977 35 with audible wrist pin slap and wondering what kind of parts bill i'm getting into if i do buy it

    • @buckkruszewski1059
      @buckkruszewski1059 4 года назад

      Most people don't rebuild these motors because it's cost prohibitive to buying another good powerhead. I called about doing it once. The guy quoted me $75 a hole for boring and honing. I went the very next day and bought three of these engines as parts motors for $150. If you had one that was mint, maybe.
