      Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I don't think there is much you can do with theses early 70's models. I have the same motor and will be working on it next. There wasn't much to offer in Prop sizes except the 9 x 9p & the 9 x 10p. They already have a big carb on them with the 72D high speed jet/orifice, so it makes no sense swapping it out. They are great outboards, lightweight & good power. I think the best thing would be is to just keep it tuned up and carb cleaned. I've had a bunch of them and really luved them, I would usually get on average 24-26 mph with them on my 15' Dura Craft aluminum boat. Double check your carb, it may have gotten swapped over the years. You'll want a carb with a large venturi or throat. Look in it through the front at the choke, about half way through the venturi/throat diameter gets smaller then opens back up at the intake. Here's some examples with 80's outboards. Thanks again & Stay tuned ! forums.iboats.com/threads/80s-johnson-evinrude-25hp-to-30-35hp-conversion-with-pics.516146/

      Hey. I've read 15-40, the 40 hp's seem to be very popular, anything else is too big/heavy and from what I've seen here on yt they're only doing around 35 mph if that with a 40. I read on one forum 13' bw, 25 merc at 23 mph. Cant find a top speed vid for a 25. Tracey's 25 took a big dump, wait til you see that, unbelievable, anyway we're waiting for parts. Once I get his motor running again I'll have something to compare mine to. Thanks & Stay tuned !

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  Месяц назад

      Hey. Thanks for tuning in. You'll have to go and check the schematics. Compare the part numbers with a 20/25 horse/same year. Crankshaft, pistons, cylinder head, carburetor. If the part numbers match and it's just the high speed jet that is different than you could swap out the jet for the bigger 72d size, (if you can get them out) but on the 25 carb it will probably have the larger throat so be sure you have the right carb. I'm sure people have been putting 25hp carbs on 20hp powerheads for a long time without a problem. But that's up to you! Thanks again & Stay tuned !

      @@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 will do thank you i brought a tiller for mine im wondering best way to set them up their two big cogs do they go next to each other put the engine in stop and do same for tiller ? and put them in here video of her running, in drum of water sounds abit odd due to cavitation
      basicly buyed the engine of guy for $80 hasnt been sat for 5 years plus
      cleaned carb and way she went 2nd pull,
      what i done currently is done a carb kit new float jet ect understand lean/rich screw all way in and 1 and half ? shes johnson 20hp 1973
      the coils was bad so i replaced them with new coils which made huge difference
      put j4c spark plugs in guy was using some werid spark plugs wasnt design for them
      only thing i need to do is play around with the carb to the timing plate due to half throttle out of gear it doesnt touch the timing plate but shes runs really nice

    The lake was like glass. Good day for a trial run. Runs like a rabbit. The porpoising was kind of scary, that thing could flip if the wind gets under it. Another TOO success story.

    My ‘98? 25hp triple will push my 14-7” deep/wide hull princecraft up to 29mph. Is my boat much lighter than yours? I have no idea about prop pitches or anything. I’m not much of a boat guy beyond the skill to bot crash it so far.

      Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Because that was the first run! It took about a year to get it on a boat. I worked on my neighbors motor and he let me run my motor on his boat. That's why I recently got the 14' orlando clipper so now I have a boat to run these small outboards again. I should have never sold my jon boat to captain ron! Stupid me! Thanks again !

    Well, first of all, boy - where are you from before you came to Florida? New York? You don't have to tilt the motor up to clear the weeds. Just put 'er in idle, let 'er come to nearly standstill, then put 'er in reverse and blip the throttle for one-two seconds at a good, high rpm. Then, once she settles, bump 'er into forward and go about your business..........
    Well, second of all, boy - if you had a REAL 35, you would want to run a 10X15 on that boat, properly trimmed, and you would be turning around 32-33 mph; maybe even 34. Heck, 27 isn't but about the same as what a stock 25 will do on a 13.5' Whaler, unless the hull is water-logged (which is not uncommon on an old Whaler). You're just burning gas and wishing............ But, beyond that, I really enjoyed this latest video and I appreciate the shows you put out for all of us to enjoy. I like your spunk. And you are a pretty darn good instinctive mechanic.
