If you'll take care of those old Johnsons they'll run forever. I restored my 1985 Lowe with a 1985 Johnson 40 hp and it still runs like the day I bought it. I have no idea how many hours that engine has on it. Dealers tell you it won't hurt to run them wide open, I don't do that. 3/4 throttle is more fuel efficient, doesn't hurt the engine, and it isn't much slower. The people who say it doesn't hurt them to run them hard also sell new engines. Think about that.

In the 70's we went to Minnesota to see my dads brother. I learned to water ski behind an engine that size.
