Her voice has drastically improved ever since she stopped smoking. It is so clear now. And to think she had the flu. Imagine how she would've sounded without being sick.

P!nk has an equally powerful voice, more powerful than most other mezzos in a non-classical music environment but the top of her effective range is slightly lower than Whitney's was, but the bottom of her range is also lower - significantly lower (in the mid-range of a baritone); much of which is beside the point in this instance since nearly all mezzo-sopranos can hit the high notes in the national anthem, including P!nk, of course. Both can/could hit the highest notes in the anthem relatively easily so long as they weren't having vocal problems, such as would be the case during and shortly after having a case of the flu. Fun fact: Whitney pre-recorded and lip-synced her national anthem performance even though her voice was superb. She was either having vocal issues at the time or she didn't trust her voice for some other reason. Others have done the same and there are MANY who do it all the time now. P!nk very famously NEVER lip-syncs because she believes that doing so is cheating the audience AND herself.

Whitney was a true soprano and P!nk is a mezzo-soprano. P!nk has an equally powerful voice, more powerful than most other mezzos in a non-classical music environment but the top of her effective range is slightly lower than Whitney's was, but the bottom of her range is also lower - significantly lower (in the mid-range of a baritone); much of which is beside the point in this instance since nearly all mezzo-sopranos can hit the high notes in the national anthem, including P!nk, of course. Both can/could hit the highest notes in the anthem relatively easily so long as they weren't having vocal problems, such as would be the case during and shortly after having a case of the flu. Fun fact: Whitney pre-recorded and lip-synced her national anthem performance even though her voice was superb. She was either having vocal issues at the time or she didn't trust her voice for some other reason. Others have done the same and there are MANY who do it all the time now. P!nk very famously NEVER lip-syncs because she believes that doing so is cheating the audience AND herself.
Robert Martel actually Whitney was a mezzo too. Pink has the vibrato and similar tone as Whitney in this performance, especially when she sings Rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air

She recovered swiftly from that voice crack near the end to deliver an astounding rendition. I had not previously heard much from Pink that led me to view her as a great vocalist, but I have now. She knocked it out of the park. Well done tackling a notoriously challenging song.
