tge fatc that the entire intro was squeezed in an Amiga floppy was amazing back in the day. Also, the entire game was super atmospheric, no health bars, no score, no map, nothing, just like a real life adventure. no sign on what to do, you had to understand what do to on your own.
tge fatc
Music and Audio effects interweave so good on the Amiga version. Interesting also the Sega CD one in that regard. 3DO has a total Terminator vibe going on in the intro.
I always thought this game was a fascinating technological achievement, but I didn't even consider the fact that it was the perfect benchmark for early 90s processing power. It must have essentially been the Crysis of it's day.
"Nice CPU bro, but can it run Another World?"
It actually had surprisingly modest requirements even for the time, Eric optimized the sh*t out of this game from day one.
You gotta praise the developers for consistency on all systems!
Consistency? All versions are opt: g- but commodore version stays opt: g+

Floating hand moment
Oh man! It has been a very long time since I played my 3DO version, been playing 20th Anniversary on PC.... the background graphics on 3DO is stunning! I had completely forgoten!
I finished the Amiga version back in the days
how long did it take you to finish the Amiga version?
This game, and the Heart of the Alien, deserve a movie....
Man! I love to watch old games versions comparison....but why there is no lots of views and comments?
Much Nostalgia for the ST and Amiga versions.Played alot but didnt get far into it. I got the 20th anniv version on XBox one but never played it. Might give it a go. Great video as ever, dont stop them coming.:)
Really good comparison, thank you!
The Sega Genesis version was the one that introduced me to the game. As a kid, that opening cinematic blew my mind - so much detail on a cartridge. And the game was like nothing I'd ever played before. The music sounds a bit laggy in this video - I remember it being much smoother. Is it the PAL version?
Anyway, can't believe next year will be the 30th anniversary. I wonder if the obligatory anniversary edition will have anything extra added like the previous ones have.
The Sega version is amazing. A lot better than the SNES as well
Amiga OG, one my topp games back then and still is, the end is epic 👍🏻 and the 20th edition 👍🏻
¿vERSIONES ANIVERSARIO? O.o?
The Snes soundtrack is amazing
An example of storytelling in games...
sega cd is the best having the most quanity of sound effects and quality
The Atari Jaguar version it's missing.
We weren't able to get Jaguar version. Anyway, is not an official port but Éric Chahi, original creator of the game supports it. It was released on 2013 and it's based on the 20th anniversary edition.
Sorry for the inconvenience
I'm blown away by how good the sounds on the Sega CD are. That's pure perfection.
The best audio synchronization in intro is on Amiga version. Almost perfect but not ideal on 15th and 20th anniversaries (although it is subjective) - check video steps and the music which follows them. Other versions has less or more desynchronizations (wrong start, too fast or too slow). For example Amiga music perfectly fit to opening elevator door (that part has exactly the same length as animation), starting computer, calculations for experiment and experiment countdown. It can't be coincidence. Atari ST worst music in my opinion, many parts doesn't exist. Mega CD and 3DO have changed tracks, especially 3DO. Snes and 3DO are using different Peanut Computer year and different operating system. Only 3DO has positive value in one of experiment atttribute.
The cinematics remind me of a certain old music video.
'I want my M... T... V...'
It’s 2022 and I’m still waiting for the Peanut computer.
This might sound weird, but I think the best versions are the original Amiga, SNES/Genesis, and Apple IIGS versions primarily just for the music. I think a great soundtrack makes the game even better. I love ambient sounds too, but a stellar soundtrack makes it so much more. The 3Do, and Sega CD also have good music, but not quite as good as the originals.

Is he saying D O N D E E S T A ?
nOPE, XD.
it was more of a french alien accent :P
"Un instant" XD
amiga version still the best
The best are the Atari ST music and sound effects! 😁
I actually had an Amiga but first played this on SNES. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I did the same. Kinda silly
Can I get the 15th/20th anniversary edition graphics with the Sega CD music and in game sounds? That would be my ideal version.
51:40 The 3DO version, use in intro, a diferent code to open de door (4577398) and not (4511932) like all other versions, seems to be same movement of finger but wrong position of number in numeric panel.
Lester uses different parameters for the particle accelerator too: G Positive, what a maniac! The other versions opt for negative polarity, whilst the Megadrive uses plain G. Identification details are subtly different on Atari, the computer usually states 'I see you have driven here in your Ferrari', however on that version it's 'I see that you are driving a Ferrari'.
I thought the musical score on the SNES version was amazing.
I'm surprised. To me, the animations look unnaturally fast on the Anniversary Editions. I don't know if this game was originally designed with 50Hz or 60Hz in mind, but if it was originally intended for 50Hz and they simply converted it to 60Hz without taking the gameplay speed into account, that's appallingly lazy work to do it for not only one anniversary release (intended to commemorate a title beloved by many) but two.
This isn't a case of "I played the PAL version first, so it looks wrong playing at the correct speed". Plenty of other games have made me go "Oh, that's how it's supposed to play" when I've played the NTSC version. My reasoning is thus: They've obviously gone to great lengths to make the game realistic (for the time it was released) and the animation (such as the character running) does look realistic on PAL systems. I also find the "choreography" comes off more naturally on a PAL system, like the duration the black beast appears on screen when it roars at you and the delay before the rope breaks.
The amiga version sounds so good!
The 3dO version is the only one which is unique. I also don't see really any difference between the two anniversary editions. The 20th has slightly finer backgrounds.
the 20th has way more ambient noises added kinda like how the Sega CD version added a ton of ambient noises.
The Sega CD had some extra music
The 20th has remastered sound. You can hear it in the creature roaring.
The 3DO is kind of not working
@@logan-el6hl what does this comment even mean?
the backgrounds in 3DO look "better" but I don't think they fit the game. the original graphics are perfect.
I kinda don't like the anniversary editions for the same reason.
to me PC is the definitive version. amiga looks good too.
Yeah, in 3DO they changed the backgrounds without changing the characters, making it look so odd.
For example it is now clear Lester is levitating on chair and has no legs. It was too dark in other versions to tell this.
@@ryszardadamus4241the guy drives a Ferrari and owns a hadron collider*, so I think it's reasonable to think that he has a chair like that.
*the lab seems to be in a remote area but there's nobody else parked up, we never see anyone else either and he appears to be operating the collider by himself whilst drinking beer. I don't think it's intentional, but it gives me the vibe that he's some bored tech billionaire who doesn't really know what he's doing and is essentially operating this highly advanced piece of technology as a glorified slot machine, hoping that it will eventually pay out with a discovery so that he can receive positive attention and show up the people who said he was wasting his money by purchasing a collider that's several generations obsolete and isn't properly shielded against electromagnetic interference.
The 3DO version removes the minimalist atmosphere. The same for the "remasters", ew. I don't like it as well
3DO version was amazing back then, and the SegaCD version, as well as the better soundtrack, has much higher resolution graphics and better colours than the Megadrive version. I remember the DOS version being much smoother on original hardware, not sure if DOSBOX paints a reliable picture here...
I have nostalgia with the 3DO version
There's actually a Turbografx-CD version that's been in the works but unfinished last I checked. I'll have to do some digging, I think I saw an early demo on RUclips.
I did play the console versions as a kid, but it wasn't until I got a 3DO on clearance that I got to play thru it. I believe the creator however disavowed the 3DO version, and Heart of the Alien because they weren't a part of his vision, or something like that. IIRC, his issue with the 3DO version was the music giving a different atmosphere, but, I loved it personally.
Sega CD and 3do the bests
Witam!!! Jak posiadałem jeszcze Amigę kilkadziesiąt lat temu, to przeszłem tą grę. Całą. 👍👍👍 Pozdrawiam i życzę miłego dnia 😊😊😊😊
Worth noting: Apple IIgs is running in TV mode so it's at half res. Granted it'll run slower in full res.
SNES has the best music hands down.
i first played this game on DOS , then as i woked on a games rental store i did played the genesis, the snes and 3do ports.
on this video i can see that asides that resolution, sound and framerate (on lower machines) the game is practically identicall in all versions.
The only exception would be the 3do version which has new visual.
and the anyversary ones that have better visuals and sound (as well as higher res and clearer view)
The best looking "regular version" is the macintosh one (it looks clearer, with high resolution and with high frames)
About snes vs genesis versions... snes sounds and looks WAY better (the snes version does actually have great music).
and the absolute best version to play is the 20 anyversary (which i preffer for a lot of reasons over the 3do one).
I know it's an alien language, but the cellmate sounds like he's saying "Night's over~!" after tapping the main character on the shoulder.
Weird I heard max-i-luba every entry lol
What exactly is the difference between the two Windows Anniversary editions?
£5?
The newest version needs the Sega CD soundtrack
Watssounga ? Wattsounga ! WATTSOOUNGAAAAA
well I will always stick with the DOS edition, but MAN i never ever seen before the 3DO version and looks amazing, almost way more than the 15th remaster. Also, there was a GBA port, despite i think was incomplete and unofficial but can't remember rn
Me: MOM! Can we get an Amiga!!?
Mom: You have a Commodore at home.
Commodore at home: (is Vic-20)
On the boot screen of that "Peanut Computer" in the game, most of the versions says "CDOS" but the Apple IIGS version saying "OS/BH", probably hints Apple GS/OS. Also the Macintosh version says "System 77.1" which probably hints Macintosh System Software 7.
I fell in love with your videos dude i love it !!!!!!!!! Apple IIGS Still Did Its Best Good Job On The Complation.
As much as I love Amiga version (I'm actually playing it on my Amiga right now ;)), I think 3DO is the best one.
I am planning to play the 3DS version
*tap* *tap* MAKTUBÓ!
You forgot the jaguar version which is aprouved by the game developer himself.
Only problem with the Amiga, Atari ST, and DOS versions is that damn code wheel protection. Sega CD is the best version. SNES is better than the Genesis port.
Cuando jugaba en pc desde 2007 dr niño, me traume con esas cosas que parecen sanguijuelas y ese perro oscuro que de casualidad lo llamaba león oscuro.
DOS and Amiga the best sound
The Super NES version is my favorite. I just love the music on that version.
3DO looks the best
3DO version is cringe
50:50 boy that 3DO isn't working
What will you say about 3DO?
Apple IIgs is the chunky boi of the group and maybe im crazy but the Macintosh version sounds and seems like it runs way faster than the rest.
3DO is the special child of the group.
Sega CD and the 20th Anniversary liked to add a ton of background noises.
Sega CD sounds more like the original vs the Sega Genesis version
The SNES version sounds closer to the original vs sega genesis version but it seems like they added additional sounds here and there.
Atari ST likes to play static with its sounds. Idk if thats how it truly was or just your emulator being fussy.
Redhead guy!
i hated him!
I dont know why, but I always thought I played this game on my c64 back in the days. But now I think my memories are wrong. IT was only on amiga? Or was there any version for the c64?
...around 110 per cent, theoretical-e ? may be, may be ;)
Atari Jaguar?!?
Sega Cd is the best one 😮
Sega cd = the best imo
(Also has part 2)
part 2 is shit
SNES have that suspense and dramatic music, for me is the best version
Very Ture
Agreed, I bought the 20th Anniversary version on 3DS and I really wish it had the SNES music as an option.
Windows got it right, 3DO did not.
3do wanted to look good but it looks terrible :D
it added unnecessary texture mapping on to an already deliberately stylised cartoon design, which didn't really match the tone.
You can't beat the SNES version. You just can't. The music elevates it to a whole different level. I'm sorry, but it's not the same game without it.
Everyone raves about this game but I much prefer Flashback.
Me either. It's probably because Flashback is more action-based.
The PlayStation 4 version is the best version.
Hey, for you weebs out there, this was the first isekai.
1981 - Start of the Ultima Series, the protagonist is called "The Avatar" - also known as "Stranger from another world".
