Why not the anniversary version? Because it's not only a terrible port, but also does not come with the CD audio music from the Sega CD version. I think it adds much of the atmosphere of the game compared to just environmental sounds so I chose this version. The graphics are a bit less colorful due to the Mega Drive's/Genesis's more limited number of simultaneous colors, but it still looks excellent. So if you can, play any of the versions from the 90s instead of the anniversary edition. If you do buy the anniversary edition on steam (not gog!), you get the Amiga floppy images as a bonus and can check out the re-release as well as the true original.
I agree with your sentiment more and more as I compare each version. I personally prefer the simulated orchestral track, especially that beautiful ending, from the SNES version, and I really don't care for the Genesis's rendition of it. But the Sega CD soundtrack is the only one of the console ports outside of the SNES version that does the soundtrack justice. Where in the SNES version, it sounds inspired and epic and all that 16-bit greatness. But this one, which if I'm not mistaken is the original soundtrack anyway, really puts you in the desolate world and gives you that creepy vibe you need to complete the experience.
Bro this game was real ahead of it’s time, the smooth movement, the amazing music, it’s really hard, but the graphics were amazing, 16 bit colors did not dissapoint, this did not deserve the hate it gotten.
Damn. I was a huge fan of Another World or Out of This World back in the day on SNES. I would replay it over and over. I never played Heart of the Alien because I didn't have a Sega CD. Never even thought to watch gameplay until now almost 30 years later. Kinda mad after watching it now. It's super wack that they killed off our human protagonist!
