First time heard Mute Math.. and got in loved. The drummer is monster. This band is worth listening only for the way he plays. Love his bits and attitude. Lovable band.
Man I love Mute Math. What a great performance! I have to say, though, that The Letterman Show is soo awkward. The silence on set between different segments. Wow.
Indeed, my friends, the greatest of the GenX along with Radiohead the greatest of the GenW and the Beatles the greatest of the GenV(BabyBoomers)... MuteMath is just astonishing and refreshing, energetic and powerful, beautiful, indeed, my friends, we all break the same...
@ErikPaulsonFan Ive seen a ton of drummers and its really hard to put it in words but where other drummers play notes, darren feels them all. his whole body is in sync with the drum heads and cymbals he hits. ITs the combo of his presence and the twists and turns he uses when he plays (he syncopates like a mofo). hes so unconventional. i just dont see other drummers give to the industry what darren does. the more you get into mutemath the more you will realize what i cant put into words
HAH!.. i got 6 thumbsdown... I cant even read my own message to recall exactly what i said... thats funny actually i was the animator on the backfire music video.. and that (assuming thats what i was referring too) is how I saw the music video for it before anyone else :) because my computer rendered it out
you know they why they arnt that famous? because they write their own music its no produced by music producers. but you know what this stuff is better than all that crap that comes out in the radio. MUTe MATh is one of a kind!!!!
scary how good they are... born as a live band i guess theyre mysterious because they are just a band they just want to make independent music..and that fucking works...no competition! 10/10 :)))))))))
@ErikPaulsonFan My opinion: The energy he puts into playing live. He uses a basic set that has a great sound for their music. I agree about other bands having good drummers and there are a lot. I'm probably just partial to them. Darren King seems to keep it simple and play the hell out of it every time he's on.
hat ride cymbal is Darren using. i can see it is a Zildjian K or K Custom, but does anyone have specific model. I really like the sound and want to buy one
@ErikPaulsonFan you cant find out what darren is all about by watching this performance. you need to see all the vids of him to get an idea of what he is like. then to really understand what Darren King is and what he brings to the music industry as an anomoly in the field of drumming is by going to a mutemath show. as a matter of fact mutemath shows are so unique and innovative and mind blowing. god. i can go on and on. but ydgaf. go see them live. then you'll know...
@iputmyhanduponmyhip & @jdklaffke14 Trying to figure out what even brought you two to this video, cause any Mutemath fan would know that Greg Hill isn't in the band anymore...
Now you're just going around in circles. When you get tired, wipe the sweat off your brow, sit down and catch your breath. The real world is still here when you're ready to join it.
You apparently thought that this was an open discussion on Mutemath's previous work. Your first comment was irrelevant to this video and the song being performed. Hence me telling you that "No one asked". I laid everything out clearly and logically. What's your response now?
I initially gave them the benefit of the doubt, because of their singer's voice issues, but they got annoying after 5 minutes. They weren't really that bad, I found, I just didn't really care for what they were playing. I was glad when they finished, but the hour-long wait afterwards would have been an outrage in any other situation, but Mute Math's performance made it worth it.
You apparently thought that this was not an open discussion on mutemaths previous work.Your first comment was irrelevant to this video.Hence me telling you "I told you anyways though".I layed everything out clearly and logically.Whats your response now?
A myna bird, my ignorant friend, is known for imitation and repeating back whatever it hears. So far you've written nothing original. I'm gonna go ahead and leave a permanent message on your page.
2024...Mutemath will never fade away
Discovered 2006..we are with you
2020 and still listening 🖤
#foreverGRATEFUL
I still think this is one of the best live performances of a song I have ever heard and I am not even a Mutemath fan.
going strong in 2024
2021 June!!!!! KEEP EM ALIVE
First time heard Mute Math.. and got in loved. The drummer is monster. This band is worth listening only for the way he plays. Love his bits and attitude. Lovable band.
What i love about mutemath. They sound just as amazing live as they do on there cds. This is my favorite band of all time.
I still absolutely ADORE MuteMath......Anxiously awaiting another concert. 3 times just isn't enough for US!!!!
Someone else with a keytar. AWESOME!!!
Just an amazing band!!! Love 'em!!!
Very cool,
gonna see them for my first time on my birthday at the Best buy theatre NYC.
I love how Dave points to Darren at the end.
Second time he's acknowledged him specifically on the show.
I think he just likes drums. He did the same with the black keys.
Man I love Mute Math. What a great performance!
I have to say, though, that The Letterman Show is soo awkward. The silence on set between different segments. Wow.
I'm in love. With all of them.
Man, they ALWAYS sound great live! Sounds great! And King's a freakin' monster, man!
They are fantastic.
I thought this song would be difficult to do live, but they did a really nice job. I was quite impressed. Love the song.
I love the trumpet-like noise! thats my favorite part
Saw these guys at house of blues in Boston, the house was a rockin !!!They serve a mean 7 and 7 also
who would have thought to mix Rock and Electronica of all things to mix with Rock lol.... Mute Math thats Who!! hahahaha and its AMAZING!!
First time I've seen someone play the keytar since the 80's but hey, I love this band. They could totally pull off the 12 century lute. fantastic!
best band right now... Ft Lauderdae show tomorrow. STOKED!
WOW AMAZING
SO GOOD
buen grupo bro...buenos musicos...salu2 from chile
very excellent band
as someone who has seen it live...dude he jumped into the middle of the crowd and sang with them
This band is amazing me right now..
Greg hills playing is amazing!!
Im going to their concert on 11/04/09 XD
the vox are flawless on this song...actually this song is pretty flawless
This whole song rocks (as usual--it's Mutemath!), but that feeling from 2:10-2:18 moves my soul.
My second favorite band after the Mars Volta. I don't know why some people here are comparing them though, since they play totally different styles.
i just discovered this band. and that means i was wrong. all hope is not lost...
actually he's fantastic with all the effects and stuff. most of the stuff you hear on the album is him. but he's gone now
@ErikPaulsonFan

I fully agree.
Drummer is freakin' awesome!
I was there. It was delicious.
2:38 dayum
looks like someone got a new cymbal endorsement !
im the first person to see the music video for this song..... true story
look up the mars volta's david letterman preformance and you will change your mind.
I love this whole band but Paul Meany is a musical genius and awesome frontman
@ErikPaulsonFan

@hotwerkMusic A good deal of effects is triggered by Paul's keytar -- I think.
i dont think any of those comment were neccessary so i will delete them. If you dont like the video go somewhere else
I secretly think Darren has three legs and four hands.
@ErikPaulsonFan What I don't understand is why everyone goes crazy over travis barker.... that's something I'll never get.
that guitarists amp is up on ebay for like 200000 dollars
Their ep and first album are better than armistice.
I'm here from the future to tell you that the only remaining member of mute math is Paul. 2017 will be a sad year for the band.
Roy is still a member of MuteMath, he just quit touring
you were right...
@IanTheGuitarGuy funny shit, that's the reason why i'm checking the band out on youtube. probably a false sale...
As Tall As Lions
I wouldn't be surprised if David hired Darren to be his drummer.....watch out Anton Fig.....lol....
bassist gets no love from the camera :[
@iputmyhanduponmyhip & @jdklaffke14 Trying to figure out what even brought you two to this video, cause any Mutemath fan would know that Greg Hill isn't in the band anymore...
hahaha!!
That's not Darren King! That's the Batman of percussion.
Now you're just going around in circles.
When you get tired, wipe the sweat off your brow, sit down and catch your breath. The real world is still here when you're ready to join it.
I still told you though.
@IanTheGuitarGuy What kind of amp is it?
delicious!
@SabianAHX a mic'd ghettorigged megaphone.
You apparently thought that this was an open discussion on Mutemath's previous work.
Your first comment was irrelevant to this video and the song being performed. Hence me telling you that "No one asked".
I laid everything out clearly and logically. What's your response now?
It could be a K Zildjian. He doesn't seem like the type to use K Customs.
3 people watch jay leno
What kind of amp is the guitarist playing?
Great marketing idea. Putting your amp up on ebay for 200,000 dollars to get more hits on youtube
I told you anyways though.
I initially gave them the benefit of the doubt, because of their singer's voice issues, but they got annoying after 5 minutes. you wouldnt?
or simply
@iputmyhanduponmyhip they just replaced him
Gonna be honest I would go gay for Darren.
how do you feel about todd ? lol
@IanTheGuitarGuy Yeah, the seller's obviously a twit. A new one is like $3000.
You have yet to talk like an adult.
Now you're just talking in circles.Let me know when you're ready to talk like an adult.
@CannedSpam24 Trillium Empyrean
D: Its not pop!
@jonbruh how can you find this weak? nothing is weak with a drummer like that.
Are you 43 or 8 years old?
You're playing a game of shadow.
Repeating someone's sentence back to them is not a valid response. That's my response.
Are you 27 or 8 years old? You are playing a game of shadow.Repeating someones sentence back to them is not a valid response.Thats my response.
You quit talking like an adult 5 comments ago.
Also is it just me or is the guitarist pretty toothy?
@dr05guitar i thought you said you loved the whole band BUT Paul... I was about to dislike this comment
A myna bird, my ignorant friend, is known for imitation and repeating back whatever it hears.
So far you've written nothing original.
I'm gonna go ahead and leave a permanent message on your page.
I still didn't ask.
it's an ok song, not that special. the amp is not worth 200,000.00
No one asked.
I and no one else cared.
What are you in 3rd grade? What kind of weak argument is this?
I love everything these guys do, but I find this performance was kinda weak.
