I remember watching this in either late 2007/2008 and thought WOW i have to check out that band! Then i found their song :you are mine" and everything changed.
Yeah, tear shit up! I LOVE THESE GUYS! Got to see them in concert at the Granada in Lawrence, Ks, and I kissed Paul on the cheek. Best show I've ever seen!
I saw them at Moogfest this weekend and their drummer was INSANE. He was just wailing on the drums and they were soaked. Splashing everywhere. The lead singer slid across his piano on his head and flipped off the other side. It was sick... I'm an instant fan.
Well put. His style is simple, yet there there is a lot of complication in his technique, right in the pocket. He is one of the better drummers I've heard play.
@Snipto I had a chance to meet Darren and the guys at the 9:30 club in DC when they were on their Debut tour....VERY VERY down to earth guys!!! No one to be scared of.
i said Mute Math is not the kind of band i love but i don't know i just LOVE themm [Mute math] i didn't say i hate themm i LOVEEEEEEE themm i even have their album so don't give me a thump down!! goshh. readd properly first! and whatever i'll love these bands forever. i don't care what you think and people too! everyone can love any band they want!
It would seem that Mutemath is one of those bands who is better on CD than live. It's funny how some are better live than on CD and others are better on CD than live. That's not meant as a knock on MM, 'cause I love their CD.
Have you seen them live or have you only seen them "live" on TV? Because those studios aren't set up for music properly. They have the BEST live show I've ever been to and they are WAY better live if you actually go to a concert. I've never had a better concert experience than theirs. And I've been to quite a few.
Sting kicks ass dude. It's not weaksauce. Their music is just more relaxing. People call it reggae. Der. It actually sounded the microphone had some problems. Paul Meany usually does sing better.
Their music reflects their personal influences of their beliefs, but I wouldn't call their music "religious". I knew Paul Meany and Roy Mitchell and Darren King from their work with Earthsuit way back, which is probably where you've probably heard of their "religious" background, but Mute Math is not a "Christian music band". But they just rock, wherever and whenever they played!
yeah, to second what some of the others have said, they are a lot better in a real live setting rather than "stay on this stage where our cameras can see you."
GREAT PERFORMANCE!!!
This was recently voted #4 all time in 30 years of live performances on Letterman. I would rate it even higher.
Yup.
Great live performance!
Voted where?
My God!
That would have to be the BEST live performance of any song that I have EVER seen.
Purely AMAZING!
5* & Favorited.
Love this song. His voice. Love Electrify. Love their drummer. This life performance totally rocked. Thanks for sharing.
I was actually at this. Had never heard of them before but listened to them once I made it back home and thought they were pretty solid.
The drummer = my childhood friend...known him almost since birth :-) He is a year younger than me...we grew up together :)
lucky human...
Did he? I love his energy, he's like a big kid, in a very good way!
+Tabitha Sikora You were lucky enough to grow up with Darren THE KING King?!
+Tabitha Sikora I heard he was originally not good enough for the band so he practiced till he was...is that true?
will forever be my favorite band
I remember watching this in either late 2007/2008 and thought WOW i have to check out that band!

Saw them live in Chicago, they are a completely beastly band to see!!!!! LOVE THEM!!! :)

Saw these guys at the 6th and I Synagogue in DC many years ago. Unbelievable energy, but my friend who invited me was falling asleep in the pew!

That's one HELL of a way to start a song. Great energy from that drummer.

I love them, cant wait for the 3rd album. :)
I loved this as well. Letterman's response is classic!! TYPICAAaaAAAL. :)
Well put. His style is simple, yet there there is a lot of complication in his technique, right in the pocket. He is one of the better drummers I've heard play.
love the way his snare sounds, guy just jams so hard
Each musician has style and coolness. Required viewing for anyone who wishes to look good and cool.
I love this Band!
Holy crap, the guy IS a monster … wow!
Future Islands "Seasons" and The Chevin "Champion" were some of the greatest performances I have ever seen on Letterman.
ive liked these guys since they were Earthsuit ! awesome awesome
Don't you just love Paul Meany's voice? He IS like Sting's bastard child! I never thought of his voice as similar to Sting's! LOL Mute Math!
Darren King rocks the tiny kit. Just keep whaling on them man, I will like it!!
Keith moon has been reborn
@Snipto I had a chance to meet Darren and the guys at the 9:30 club in DC when they were on their Debut tour....VERY VERY down to earth guys!!! No one to be scared of.
Drummer is INSANE (yet awesome). Bass in this kickin' too. Great song- great gig.
The very beginning, Letterman goes "Thankyou.Thankyou.Thankyouandthankyouagain."
Funny.
i said Mute Math is not the kind of band i love but i don't know i just LOVE themm [Mute math] i didn't say i hate themm i LOVEEEEEEE themm i even have their album so don't give me a thump down!! goshh. readd properly first! and whatever i'll love these bands forever. i don't care what you think and people too! everyone can love any band they want!

Don't think I've ever seen anyone rock out so hard on a keytar before!!! Mutemath FTW.

I love this band now. At 2:27 is my favorite part from the drummer.
Wow this was a beastly performance

Man that drummer is awesome!!!
The guy with the Keytar on Conchords is a Comedian named Dimitri Martin, check him out.
So funny how excited Letterman got, although I can't blame him.

I hooked Paul and Darren onto Utz chips when they came to Baltimore last year XD

i dont know but if u find out let me know.its a new backing guitarist also
well-said
These guys are the real deal.
Someone else compared them to U2, saying they were better. I just meant that they've got a lot to acheive before anyone can say that.
muy buena banda en vivo
AWESOME!!!!!!!
this drummer is absolutely amazing. letterman got that one right.
Damn right he would!
As Borat would say.... "Niiiiiice!"
Remember the muppet Animal? You know, the one who had the wicked drum solos but looked like he wasn't playing it at all? Yeah, that's @ 2:57

The bass guitarist is awesome too!!!
yeah, that was great... he kinda burst out with excitement at the end there :)
"Everybody allright?" LOL.
i'm not into this type of bands i'm into simple plan, zebrahead, daughtry..etc [pop punk, rock, metal] but i doon't know i just LOVE them =P
The song is called "Typical"
YES!
Darren King is amazing
i ♥mUtemAtH
Just fucking,.. WOW
lol! everybody alright? he says.
Haha! I love them, but they've got a lot to prove before anyone can say they're better than U2.
Your judging their live performance by this one song on Letterman?
Check out their live DVD or attend a show if you get the chance, I know I will.
a young young bono

Good Drummer !

Want some hope? Try Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. An awesome band, seriously.
@gatemarzipan I don't know any other band with a keytar as trademark.... you?
Keith Moon would be proud of Darren!!
2:27 watch Daren... So cool.
3:56 is also cool.
I don't see the resemblance really, but I could see how one could see one...
It's called a keytar
they placed the drums infront... you know why?? this is why.
@ smoothdrummer29
you should check out their song "reset" live...
even more amazing than this...
Every song is a drum solo for DK.
well, comparing mutemath to U2 is like comparing apples to oranges.
yeah
uhmmm
the tenth on a saterday i think
Yeah at the house of blues.
I hope you didn't hear it from the Twilight soundtrack.

@mRRRc true...true.
The drummer was off the charts.
