    You're exactly right regarding 1080 because 95% of online videos are viewed on a smart phone screen, which makes 1080 more than enough.

      Yup, I'll never argue that 4K is pointless... it's not! But this whole video except the wedding bits were all in 1080, I've shot so much in 1080p and nobody notices. People watch videos for the story, the information, the content... not the quality of the video haha. Thanks for watching Steven!

    That's made me want to try 1080p 100fps on my A7R5, which tbh I haven't yet, just assuming it'd be glaringly soft against the crispy 4k footage. But I guess I'd most want the 100fps for wildlife where cropping in might also be useful so that A7S3, or dare I say the A7S4 if it ever appears, might be too tempting. In fact if Sony did a firmware upgrade for the A7S3 it'd be a no-brainer, but it's not looking likely. Loved the relaxed style. Definitely felt like you were having a conversation with me. the 7 minutes flew by. Thanks for another really informative and thought provoking video.

      Well thanks for giving me the idea on the call the other month! This video idea came from you so thanks. That's the thing, if you need to crop then most likely you're going to need 4K, do you need that to be in 100fps? If yes, this isn't the the camera for you. But that's why there's so many cameras to offer... let's not get started on that matter...
      I like the relaxed style too! Thanks for watching

    I shoot 1080 all the time because for the vertical content it is really hard to tell any difference on instagram furthermore for some reason 1080 looks better on instagram than 4k

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  Год назад

      Yeah, on a small phone screen it can be really hard to tell. I also found that my iMac always struggled with vertical 4k whereas with horizontal 4k it would be okay… so I always shot vertical in 1080 until recently

    Can’t agree more about when squeezing in few seconds of 1080 slow mo and nobody would notice. Gosh it was bugging me so much but now I’m happy having listened to that ✌️

  • @JoshStreetDesign
    @JoshStreetDesign Год назад

    I find it very frustrating that even if you have crispy videos in 4k, You Tube ALWAYS defaults them to a lower resolution and 95% of people don't realize that and/or don't manually switch it to higher resolution. That's why I just shoot mostly everything in 1080 120fps as I prefer to have the slow mo option with anything other than talking head videos.

  • @alexandrumacedon291

    well there is some contradicting, i mean why would people want to get "that" 4k quality, as you said, if they aren't so lucky maybe they don't have a 4k monitor either. plus, if you dont have a good lens, your 4k footage can be as "sharp" as a 1080p upscaled. and good lenses cost a lot. so... again....

    RUclips played this vid for me at 1440p and it looks good to me on a 4k monitor, as you say it's all relative to where it's going to be viewed.

    • @DannyBligh

      That's good to know!! An absolutely, I think I've only ever shot higher than 4K twice... and I've made content for a lot of companies that are well known. it's more about the content, not the quality of the visuals - or at least as in-depth as resolution!.

    I do stills not video and also have the A7RV and wonder if Sony or whatever maker separated the stills and video of a camera to just a stills camera and just video in a camera, would the cost be in half. I love the ability in cropping like having a telephoto lens and getting a super sharp image and then enlarging to whatever size. Also if you had just the A7RV as a video camera would it be like a handheld computer camera (cell phone) that would do everything and spit out a video like the cell phone does in seconds vs hours using that big desktop and 8K 30 in. screen that others use for gaming their lives away with nothing to show for the time they spent on the many games. The only difference in my first A7S and the A7RV is the upgraded sensor but mainly computer chips behind the sensor that reduce noise and now a AI chip or things but not for a night doing astro Milky Way's capture, it would be WOW if the AI chip could see the Milky Way and enhance it in camera with depth and its colors as well as the colors of atmosphere gas colors. Not to mention a astro modified sensor but with the ability to turn off the modified layer for daytime use. Does anyone remember the many on camera apps of mod 1's and 2's, one the Digital Filter that does sky and ground like two different filters and you did not have to carry a bag full filters and filter holders, I truly believe filter makers asked Sony to get rid of the apps because it would put them out of business. Just think if a model had all the extra apps you do in post for your videos with the still stuff off, it would be like if you had 100 lbs of camera works and split in two one for stills and one video---could you live with just a Video camera that would also be half the cost. Then there would be reviews of the Photo abilities and Video abilities of two different cameras.

    Very informative. At the beginning of the video I thought you were going to test a single frame of a video (and call it an image) and therefore you are shooting 60fps (or whatever) vs. the 10 fps of the image settings. Maybe if you shooting 4K ....can you pull a single shot that looks, at least, good enough? Or excellent??? It dawned on me that maybe I should be shooting just 1080p for video since they all go to RUclips....?

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  Год назад +1

      Not with this camera but with the A7Siii I do actually print stills from the video. It's part of one of our wedding packages when we do just video, we bring maybe 20 6x4's to put in the delivery box just to add to the presentation. They look perfectly acceptable however not entirely sharp. But this is due to the frame rate vs shutter speed so every image has motion blur... try it! You'll see what I mean.
      As for the argument of should you just filming in 1080p... it's up to you. I normally film in 4K for all of my videos unless I can't due to the camera that's with me. Me talking in this video was 1080p on a 4k timeline and I was actually blown away by the quality when I watched it back in Premiere. I once read somewhere that uploading at a higher bitrate too then letting RUclips crush it averaged out better but answer this, do you watch me to pixel peep, or do you watch me for the content and information I give? If it's to pixel peep I better get filming in 8k ;)
      Thanks for watching

    Interesting! How are you upscaling to 4K for the RUclips upload (it looks like it’s still a UHD resolution here)?

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  Год назад +1

      It’s been upscaled within Premiere and exported at 4k resolution and then uploaded. When I view it on RUclips from my laptop (just checked) it naturally plays in 1080p (may differ on device) but there is a way to increase it to 4k in the settings when you’re viewing the video. Hope i’ve mot misunderstood but do say if I have

    • @TheOtherSamMallory

      @@DannyBligh thanks for the insight! I’ll play with it a bit. I’ve been using upscaled 1080 for the talking head type shots to save space and keeping 4K for main content for cropping and potential future use. Haven’t touched the 120 on the A7RV simply since I have the A7SIII but I guess I’ll need to give it a shot!

    The main problem is using A7RV for video in the first place. And Sony making more improvements over A7RIV in video department than stills on that model. Its stills focused camera, it have huge resolution and old sensor - same sensor as in A7RIV. Its the slowest sensor to read of all fullframe sensors used by the 3 main brands in any of their mirrorless camera. That means inability to shoot high speed and huge problems with rolling shutter. Its sensor is just not fit for video whatsoever. It should not be used for any serious video. It should make more sense to go for A7IV (not to mention in some places you can buy 2 of those for the same price) or specialised A7S line than A7RV if video is what you do.
    That said - for question in video title - no. It shouldnt. Even if camera didnt have any video capability whatsoever, it still shouldnt be reason not to buy it. Because you shouldnt even concider it when buying one for video.

      If you need only stills, then there is no need to spend such a huge amount of money on the A7R5, it is a hybrid camera. Your statement is slightly outdated for 2023.

      I will travel soon to Swiss to some stunning landscapes with lakes. Picures are my favorite, and will always be priority, hence D810 nikon, sony a7RIII, RIV and now RV. But video really is nice too, like you are sitting on boat, and you see the water movement, you move, you are panning to the mountains, an image can't fully capture that. Hence i'm really happy with every single A7RV improvement to video side, it's not 100% A1, but A1 enough for me to not feel difference, and i will feel it in my pocket for sure :) I feel like when you look past what is ans isnt (like the rolling shutter isn't that bad when you do normal video), the A7RV now has better image quality then Canon eos R5, but almost as good video (except for 8K and 4k 120p), but again in realistic scenarios, this camera is a lot of fun to use. The screen is fun times 100, EVF, active stabilization, IBIS (wich is better for sure, i got tons of usefull images at 1/3, wich A7RIV would struggle hard at). AF, better auto white balance. 10 bit video finally. Better AF in video (probably the most adult at the moment).
      So yeah, the combination of picture and video quality in this camera made me upgrade, even though in theory the step is small from A7RIV. I i forgot lossless compressed, that should save 33% space: perfect for those video shots :D.
