There's a reason Joan's recline and exhale at the end of the scene has become such a useful gif - nobody could have done that scene like she did. The part of a lifetime.
Alexis is like the Joker she actually doesn't her ex-husband back, she wants the chaos, the fight with Cristal who is a formidable opponent but with a style opposite of her own.
Exactly. Even Joan Collins in later interviews still wondered WHY on earth Alexis was still so consumed with Blake when she "traded up" for Cecil, got his money, got his company and had even managed to inherit a portion of her FATHER IN LAW"S wealth! She even called Alexis a "yutz" for still carrying some sort of flame for him. She never quite got over the fact that she never completely destroyed Blake for what he did to her.
The end of the scene was scary, that is how a devil looks like in disguise 😈, Joan Collins was the wright person to play Alexis and Larry Hagman playing J.R 😈😈
:39 to :41, Krystal takes a full two seconds to think about the question and formulate her reply, all while acting out her thinking process - priceless!
LOLOL!!! THAT HYSTERICALLY AWFUL WIG ON JOAN!! What a riot....and "Alexis" is ALWAYS just barging her way through the Carringtons' FABULOUS MAAAAHHHHHNSION, DAHLING!! Dynasty was such ridiculously absurd fun.
Why ? Krystal was a Good woman who loved her husband and cared for her family, Alexis was a scheming vengeful ex wife who was bitter because Blake Caught her cheating and threw her out ! How the heck did Krystal annoy you ? That's stupid ! Also krystal use to kick Alexis ass , so take that !
@@FashionistaDude .. People, like Joan, forget that Alexis struck the first blow in that art studio catfight -- Krystle just continued to respond appropriately.
Cedar Abbey, that wasn't the only altercation. Otherwise it was always Krystle that resorted to physical violence first, and sometimes was the only one to do so.
I never give my sis, Krystle, her just due, but I have to say, Krys did not play here. Ki@ her cutting Lexis off during their beginning dialogue with that, " I asked you a something! What are you doing in here?" Work, Krys. 😂😂😂
Alexis is attempting in taking over the mansion and celebrating it by wearing her 1965 wig. An added confrontation with Kristian. And her day is complete.
For a while Krystle was the audience's way of entering the world of the exceedingly wealthy and powerful. She was fair and kind and had dignity. Naturally we empathized with her and we got to know the people and settings of her new world. She was an average woman who got married to an oil mogul who had a 48 room mansion on an estate. Talk about an adjustment. When the ex-wife came into the picture there was instant friction. There didn't have to be so much of it, but clearly Alexis wanted things a certain way from the moment they met. And these fairly frequent verbal confrontations between the two ladies were fraught with drama, even though the surroundings were opulent and staid. Scenes like this are what made Dynasty appealing to me when I first discovered the show. And sometimes when Krystle got the last word, the message she conveyed was to the point and rang very true. Her words here (about who delcared war first) seem to hang in the air heavily as she exits the room, leaving Alexis to revel in the pleasure of making the new Mrs. Carrington uncomfortable in her own home. For me this is almost as powerful as a scene from a classic western movie. I wish there was more of this caliber stuff in later seasons but it just evolved into silliness, like the episode in which an argument ended with Krystle dropping Alexis' breakfast plate in her lap (which, admittedly, was very funny because it was unexpected).
Joan (collins not crawford) stated in interviews that in the early two seasons they wanted her to look like she did in "The Stud", but Joan felt that since Alexis was cultured and well, rich, she should look like it and carry herself as such--- despite her backstory of being a hellraiser, an artists' model and artist herself and somewhat bohemean. So by the time she inherited ColbyCo, she had to look the part.. and that part ironically WAS based on Joan Crawford's taking control .. albeit briefly.. of Pepsi. In fact, in one season, they recreated the Boradroom scene in "Mommie Dearest", with Alexis taking control of the suits in a reverse color pallete of the hat and fur "Joan" (Faye Dunaway) wore in that scene.

@@userfridaywiggly18943 I think the first season or so it was clunky... then by season three, Krystal found her focus... going after Alexis and asserting herself as THE Mrs. Carrington. Alexis underestimated her, thinking she was just some younger lower class trophy wife.
Oh, it was great casting, writing, and direction. Krystle was the underdog so it made good TV when she would stand-up to Alexis. She was a secretary from Dayton, Ohio so Alexis always made her feel she didn't belong into high society.
Alexis's curled bangs make me giggle. Why were the whites of krystles eyes pink? Guess dealing with alexis on a regular basis will do that to you. Lol.
This was one of the best scenes with lines they gave to Crystal. It’s a shame the entire show became pointless and even bizarre. Alexis here in that wig, before she switched to brown cigarettes, purring and cheek chewing all camp. That excessively beige room was always so weird abs colorless.
Crazy wig noted, but here’s another occasion where, what? Alexis pre-placed a cigarette and lighter on the carrington coffee table in preparation for her battle with Krystle? Why doesn’t Alexis carry her cigarettes? No satchel, pocketbook or Fanny pack. No Schneider pack of cigs in the shirt sleeve. So. How did Alexis find that convenient cigarette just lying on someone else’s coffee table with a nearby lighter for her argument with Krystle? How?
If only the show continued to write for both actors and characters this way! Strong and cutting verbal tennis tension. Ah, Joan was fabulous and saved the show. However, the show needed Krystal to balance the camp that devours the quality later on. After season 4, the show suffered and limped along. Still love it.
Unlike JR, I love Alexis. Unlike evil, black hearted JR, Alexis has a good heart. She is just an eccentric schemer who herself has been wronged in the past and isn't afraid to put people in their places when they step out of line. Sometimes she is evil but not always. And Krystle is such a bore compared to Alexis.
The nerve, to come into a house that isn't her own and start ordering things around. She knows she will get away with it. Blake was a weak man. He should have laid down the law to Alexis that she was absolutely not to enter the house and for the servants to not raise one finger for her. Children or not. They would have to go visit her in that little house she was living in on the grounds, wor wherever she was living. The kids could go see her but she absolutely was not to enter the house unless invited in for a party.
There's a reason Joan's recline and exhale at the end of the scene has become such a useful gif - nobody could have done that scene like she did. The part of a lifetime.
Joan has always been the epitome of sass, sex, and class. She did exactly what I needed her to do with that pose!

Alexis would have eaten choir boy JR Ewing for breakfast.
And the weird part is that Joan Collins thought she'd only be on for one season at the most.
Okay this scene epitomises why Joan stole this show from under everyone else’s feet. Diva.
Great scène perfectly by both Joan and Linda …40 years ago OMG 😱
