I like Brook, I'm surprised how he can be so cheerful and goofy after being stranded on a ship for 50 years. he has one of the saddest backstories next to Robin. His voice in the Funimation dub makes me think what if Whis from Dragon Ball was this wacky, perverted skeleton that's a musician.
Probably the effects of extreme isolation for 50 years. From what I remember of their meeting, he acted almost like he was in a dream or delusion. Nothing was entirely real, which is why he could so calmly accept the invite to the straw hats. Why get worked up when the illusion could pass at any moment? It wasn't until everything was over, the darkness he was forced to live in finally passed and he could walk under the sun again, and he could see a way forward that it really sunk in - he had friends again. Keeping the lighthearted goofiness he developed in isolation after that seemed like the intentional move of a professional entertainer.
Well usually things like that makes you a lot more cheerful and goofy. After all being alone for so long means you need to learn to entertain yourself.
Realistically Brooks backstory is 100× worse than robins and if a human IRL experienced this and could they'd 100% kill themself Robin is more of a toss up.

Mine too but mostly because I picture him coming up with them as a way to keep himself sinking into a pit of depression and loneliness during his 50 years alone
I really hope that Brook will become one of the legends of the world of One Piece. After all, he not only survived 50 years in The Florian Triangle, but also returned from it without losing himself as a person. Although after the resurrection he became a soul in a skeletal body, but in this soul there is more humanity than in anyone. Kindness, wisdom, caring, cheerfulness, optimism, loyalty honesty, politeness, sense of humor, the desire to keep promises no matter what. And his music, songs give warmth and comfort. Yeah, I wish Brook had more screen time for his art. And his works came out on discs.
It's always been an idea in my mind that Brook would die in the final arc. My theory is that during the final battle with Blackbeard, Luffy's body would give out and die. During his time in the underworld he would meet up with all the dead allies he made along the way such as Pedro, Whitebeard, Ace, and finally talk with Roger himself. Before he could move on to the afterlife Brook would activate the ultimate ability of his devil fruit that being to bring one soul back from the dead. However in exchange Brook would have to take their place in the afterlife, and after a heart felt goodbye Brook would die again and bring Luffy back to life to fulfill his captains dream. After becoming pirate king Luffy would return the tone dial to Laboon and Crocus as Brooks final wish.
An amazing description as usual, well done. One of the best moments, at least for me, is when brook laughs because of sanji's encounter with the vivid image of his horrible wanted poster. I truly enjoy how joyful he is despite his sad backstory (one of the saddest in my opinion )

Brook is probably my favorite character in all of One Piece. His speech to Franky and Robin about his promise to Laboon is probably one of my favorite speeches as well. I think the English dub did wonders with it 'Death is never an apology' makes me tear up every time. Brook makes me hope we get some sort of epilogue chapters for each of the Straw Hats after One Piece is finished him reuniting with Laboon is the number one thing I want/never want to see haha.
Brooke's crew's death is so much like how Wallace Hartley and his fellow musicians died on the Titanic. They died doing what they loved, playing music til the bitter end with their precious musical instruments in their cold, dead hands. But I feel the Titanic musicians were praying through music with that sad hymn 'Nearer My God to Thee.' While Brooke and crew died laughing to their favorite shanty (except Brooke who was crying at the end).
Under my perspective 👀: Brook’s 💀 pre-timeskip 🎻 appearance remind me of the late José White, an Afro-Cuban violinist. While his post-timeskip 🎸 appearance remind me of Slash mixed with Jimi Hendrix. 🎵🎶
He was actually intended to look like a mixture of slash and jack skellington from the nightmare before christmas. This is because he wanted to base him off of a ledgendary muscian, and to add another the tim burton references found in thriller bark (e.g. hogback was inspired by finklestein, moria by oogie boogie, and cindry by sally)

Like Luffy, I had been waiting for a musician for a long time before Brook came along. In addition to being an interesting character with a truly tragic backstory (per regulation for all the Straw Hats it seems), his mannerisms and fighting style were entertaining and "Wooooow!" worthy to watch. I first saw him in Japanese clips of Thriller bark in 2008, i.e. when the Paramount War was being published in serial and I was 15 years old; as a fellow musician and someone who admires loyalty and integrity above other qualities, my heart resonated with Brook's promise to Laboon and his promise to the dying Rumbar pirates. And despite all the wonderful opening and closing songs for the 20 years One Piece has been in publication, it is "Bink's Sake" that is often called "the ultimate song for One Piece". Brook became my favorite Straw Hat just over ten years ago, and he is still my favorite now. Can I get a "Yo-ho-ho-ho!" in here for our favorite afro skeleton, and for his voice actors in both Japanese and in English? Seriously, they rule.

I remember the first time I saw him on the manga, I was like : A Skeleton! He has to be a Strawhat for sure! He was a wonderful gentleman with his Dr Slump Sembei Norimaki kind of comic sense to him. But like Franky he became a parody of himself, all his subtilities and his sensitivity were gone until Whole Cake Island were he shined as bright as ever. Recently when I saw him saving Carrot in the anime I was like : That's the sensitive kind hearted gentleman that I love! The guy ready to sacrifice his own life to protect people he loves! The one who saw his friends died and the one who wants to give back to other. Oda has redeem his character, the skull jokes and panty jokes were being used too often, Brook wasn't funny anymore neither able to touch our heart anymore and was portrayed as an awfully weak swordman who just use music to fight. After Whole Cake Island I feel like he is back as a strong character, I just hope that Oda will continue to develop that emotional and chivalrous side of his. But I would love to see him become a great sword man who can form a great Tandem with Zorro. That's what I was looking for when he first joined the crew. A guy who can push Zorro to be a better swordman by training with him everyday. We didn't see that and to me it's a waste of potential to portray him as a musician with no sword path driving force at all.
Christophe Maximin for me in the way you wanted him as a character for me it is completely different I love that he is a goof a pervert and a gentleman his fighting side is still cool but for me it is the thing I like the least about his character him training with zoro isn’t what brook is
Brook is one of my favourite anime characters, I love how he is kind of an underdog because he always behaves cowardly and reacts dramaticaly(Which annoys me a bit at times), but when he gets serious and fights properly; he is so damn badass.. I love his character design and fighting style. Also, he is MVP of Whole Cake, daaamn I cheered so hard for Brookeyy.

There is a MASSIVE amount of content you can make and I think it would be nice because a lot of watchers/readers don't understand why some places are important.

SOUL KING! And to think at first when he was introduced I wasn't sure that I was going to like him... Brook still is probably one of my least favourite straw hats, but he definitely adds something special. And the One Piece world would be definitely less epic without Bink's Sake (His Nekomamushi song is also a masterpiece).
Hello I know you put a great deal of work and effort into your videos and I do like to rewatch them fairly often but more often than that I find myself listening to them while I’m driving but my problem is that some of the vehicles that I drive are very drafty so I can be difficult at times to hear you while you’re speaking I would like to request that maybe you can increase the volume somehow will be much appreciated thank you very much
this series could use a revisit, imo, as some of these videos would benefit from being brought up to current standards, as well as covering some more of the updates that have happened since their first videos.

I honestly don't think he can die now. If he didn't get lost and found his body still freshly dead he probably could die again but I guess we don't know for sure.
happy birthday brook!!! :3 a strawhat that i loved immediately(being voiced by whis/dandy in english being a bonus.) for how he wears his heart on his sleeve(even though he has no organs.) and the mvp of whole cake along with my favorite costume in super grand battle x(marth with brooks mannerisms is hilarious to imagine and i'd love to see art of that.).
As much as I love Brooks character I wish he had a more serious nature, when he actually tries in his fights and really shows his sword and devil fruit prowess they're easily the most bad ass to watch.
I contest that Brook is, along with Chopper and Robin, an Awakened Devil Fruit User though not officially labelled as such as his devil fruit powers are clearly above what the fruit initially seemed to grant the user of. He can seemingly manipulate other souls as well though more through influence of music rather than full on take over like Big Mom can and can seemingly weaponize his own by channeling it through his sword. Chopper also may not have the same amount of control of his Monster Point (which is technically his Awakened form) given he requires a rumble ball to use it and can only properly control it for 3 minutes, but the fact he can access other forms beyond what other Zoan's have been able to demonstrate I think it's safe to say he qualifies. And when it comes to Robin, she can not just make giant versions of her limbs but even a full second body which, maybe if she could make even more doubles it might count more towards but I think this is a good sign that she has virtually awakened it as Paramecia's are rather strange in what awakened entails.
I think we need to know more about Brook before he died. Why did he sail the Grand Line in those years before Roger? What was his dream before Laboon? He's the Straw Hat we know the least about.
Ok so I just wanna clear something up, brook has the saddest backstory, he lost his captain, lost his crew (also dying in the process), came back to life because of his devil fruit, floating across the florian triangle for more than 47 years!. While carrying the body’s of his dead crew members, losing his shadow at thriller bark. No doubt brook has the saddest backstory.

Little fact: besides his sword, brook can also use his musical abilities to alter a person’s emotions, causing his allies to become more agressive or can reduce his enemies to tears. Also, being a skeleton, brook is unable to heal by normal means, and actually consumes milk to heal himself, because apparently calcium has healing properties for himself. Extra fact: brook is actually quite fearful of a lot of things and even gets scared of his own reflection. During his time on the haunted island, brook would hum to himself to keep calm while facing the hostile inhabitants, which in turn, scared the inhabitants and gave brook the nickname “the singing reaper” (i think i got that one wrong, Sorry)

Nice to hear someone mention Skulduggery Pleasant :) I love Brook he's definitely my favourite character in one piece
I remember the first time I saw him on the manga, I was like : A Skeleton! He has to be a Strawhat for sure!
He was a wonderful gentleman with his Dr Slump Sembei Norimaki kind of comic sense to him.
But like Franky he became a parody of himself, all his subtilities and his sensitivity were gone until Whole Cake Island were he shined as bright as ever. Recently when I saw him saving Carrot in the anime I was like : That's the sensitive kind hearted gentleman that I love!
The guy ready to sacrifice his own life to protect people he loves! The one who saw his friends died and the one who wants to give back to other.
Oda has redeem his character, the skull jokes and panty jokes were being used too often, Brook wasn't funny anymore neither able to touch our heart anymore and was portrayed as an awfully weak swordman who just use music to fight.
After Whole Cake Island I feel like he is back as a strong character, I just hope that Oda will continue to develop that emotional and chivalrous side of his.
But I would love to see him become a great sword man who can form a great Tandem with Zorro. That's what I was looking for when he first joined the crew. A guy who can push Zorro to be a better swordman by training with him everyday. We didn't see that and to me it's a waste of potential to portray him as a musician with no sword path driving force at all.

Brook used to be npc character in rogar era and later became a main character.
It took him many years.
Brook is one of my favourite anime characters, I love how he is kind of an underdog because he always behaves cowardly and reacts dramaticaly(Which annoys me a bit at times), but when he gets serious and fights properly; he is so damn badass.. I love his character design and fighting style.
Also, he is MVP of Whole Cake, daaamn I cheered so hard for Brookeyy.
Hey Grandlinereview could you do a series where you tell the history of islands or places that had an impact on the story or were visited in the series. There is a MASSIVE amount of content you can make and I think it would be nice because a lot of watchers/readers don't understand why some places are important.

SOUL KING! And to think at first when he was introduced I wasn't sure that I was going to like him... Brook still is probably one of my least favourite straw hats, but he definitely adds something special. And the One Piece world would be definitely less epic without Bink's Sake (His Nekomamushi song is also a masterpiece).
Brook's Backstory to when he was a pirate was already super sad.
I honestly hope his childhood isn't sad like major characters in One Piece.
Hello I know you put a great deal of work and effort into your videos and I do like to rewatch them fairly often but more often than that I find myself listening to them while I’m driving but my problem is that some of the vehicles that I drive are very drafty so I can be difficult at times to hear you while you’re speaking I would like to request that maybe you can increase the volume somehow will be much appreciated thank you very much
this series could use a revisit, imo, as some of these videos would benefit from being brought up to current standards, as well as covering some more of the updates that have happened since their first videos.

a strawhat that i loved immediately(being voiced by whis/dandy in english being a bonus.) for how he wears his heart on his sleeve(even though he has no organs.) and the mvp of whole cake along with my favorite costume in super grand battle x(marth with brooks mannerisms is hilarious to imagine and i'd love to see art of that.).
As much as I love Brooks character I wish he had a more serious nature, when he actually tries in his fights and really shows his sword and devil fruit prowess they're easily the most bad ass to watch.

I contest that Brook is, along with Chopper and Robin, an Awakened Devil Fruit User though not officially labelled as such as his devil fruit powers are clearly above what the fruit initially seemed to grant the user of. He can seemingly manipulate other souls as well though more through influence of music rather than full on take over like Big Mom can and can seemingly weaponize his own by channeling it through his sword. Chopper also may not have the same amount of control of his Monster Point (which is technically his Awakened form) given he requires a rumble ball to use it and can only properly control it for 3 minutes, but the fact he can access other forms beyond what other Zoan's have been able to demonstrate I think it's safe to say he qualifies. And when it comes to Robin, she can not just make giant versions of her limbs but even a full second body which, maybe if she could make even more doubles it might count more towards but I think this is a good sign that she has virtually awakened it as Paramecia's are rather strange in what awakened entails.

I think we need to know more about Brook before he died. Why did he sail the Grand Line in those years before Roger? What was his dream before Laboon? He's the Straw Hat we know the least about.
Ok so I just wanna clear something up, brook has the saddest backstory, he lost his captain, lost his crew (also dying in the process), came back to life because of his devil fruit, floating across the florian triangle for more than 47 years!. While carrying the body’s of his dead crew members, losing his shadow at thriller bark. No doubt brook has the saddest backstory.

happy birthday soul king brook!!! the mvp of whole cake island(along with sanji,capone gang bege,nami and jimbe.:3)my favorite things about brook are his skull jokes(which i find a funny way of acknowledging the defying nature of brooks existence,his timeskip ability to basically control the power of the underworld,ian sinclairs dub voice for him(i love cho's as well and its one of the few dub voices for the strawhats i like as much as the original.),how his concert poster is his wanted poster,how he can freaking run on water,how he's basically "what if jack skellington was a pirate?"(outside his cameo in james and the giant peach.i loved that movie my favorite character was miss spider as she was pretty much as precursor to rachnera from monster musume and the grasshopper :3) due to oda's love of the movie, and how in super grand battle x he was represented by marth from fire emblem.(its honestly my favorite amiibo costume for the strawhats along with nami as wii fit, franky as donkey kong,zoro as link, nico robin as samus aran and kirby as chopper since its really funny to imagine marth with brook's mannerisms like tilting to the side along with the visual of marth wearing brook's shades and rocking out with brook's gestures.also fits as a reference to marth being the oddball in smash for a while due to not having an english dub until ultimate.) kinda weird people arent more shocked at brooks appearance(unless they really think its an elaborate costume.lol makes me want to see him in the next shonen jump crossover game just to see goku,midoriya,ichigo,naruto,gintoki,medaka,koro sensei,lala,bobobo,the jojo's especially jotaro & joseph and gon/killua's reactions to him.:3) and it would be cool to see more of brook's past.(outside of artwork and a megahouse figurine we dont really know what brook's childhood is fully like.)

Little fact: besides his sword, brook can also use his musical abilities to alter a person’s emotions, causing his allies to become more agressive or can reduce his enemies to tears.
Also, being a skeleton, brook is unable to heal by normal means, and actually consumes milk to heal himself, because apparently calcium has healing properties for himself.
Extra fact: brook is actually quite fearful of a lot of things and even gets scared of his own reflection. During his time on the haunted island, brook would hum to himself to keep calm while facing the hostile inhabitants, which in turn, scared the inhabitants and gave brook the nickname “the singing reaper” (i think i got that one wrong, Sorry)
