. Such a wonderful combination; a sweet Celtic melody and the sustaining drone of the hurdy-gurdy. . You know, there will be hurdy-gurdys in heaven. May we all be good enough in this life to be there for the likes of this.
Like in traditional Indian music, the drone ties everything together. Each note stacked on top harmonises with it or brings some tension to be melted away later. Absolutely gorgeous. In Hindu belief it´s a reminder how we are all one as Atman. I don´t think there is such an idea behind it in Celtic music, but the effect is very similar. Celtic is more harmonious and studied, where Indian is more spontaneous, but with great artists the deepest ritual can be performed with vivid spontaneity.
There is a similar haunting drone from the bag pipes. I like to think of it representing the all encompassing life force of the Creator that sustains all things.

Shut up
Take your cultural appropriation elsewhere, we’re all full up.
Aréir is mé go tláth lag, `
Go tabhartha tnáite in easpa cirt
'Sea dhearcas a' teacht 'm láthair
An bhean dob áille fionnachruth
Bhí gruaig a cinn go búclach buí
Ina shlaodaibh síos go talamh léi
'S le glór a béil gur bhuail sí an draíocht
Ar cheoltaibh sí na Banban
Is a chlanna Gael na n-árann
Sin é ráiteachas na tairngreacht
Tiocfaidh aon-mhac phrionsa an chomhraic
Gurb ainm dó siúd Bonaparte
An tImpire is an Spáinneach
Ag cur gárda leis go hAlbain
Ní bheidh siúd choíche sásta
Le háitreabh Rí na Sacsan a fháil
Gan buachan cruinn le faobhar a gclaíomh
Go mbainfidh díol a n-athar dóibh
Is a chlanna Gael na n-árann
Sin é ráiteachas na tairngreacht
Tiocfaidh cabhair agus fuaim orainn
Is béim go léir haiteasach
Is glaofaim' ar ár gcúnamh
Chun dúbailt' ins na rainceanaibh
Is séidfim 'adharc is biúgal
Galltrump' ar dtús an chatha amuigh
Beidh smáil is bleást an phúdair
Ag baint smúit as croíthe na Sasanach
Is a chlanna Gael na n-árann
Sin é ráiteachas na tairngreacht
