There are endgames where you can be three pawns down in a opposite coloured bishop endgame and STILL be able to hold the draw, opposite colour bishops are almost always a draw, there’s nothing more too it the only thing you need to learn is how to hold a draw which you can find many endgame practicing websites online which is probably why he’s not wasting his time doing it.
