Thank you so much. Hours wasted on troubleshooting until I stumbled onto your video. My ring doorbell pro powered up after 20 mins using the USB port. I pressed the orange reset button, heard the reset prompt, and went and reinstalled the unit. It went back online like nothing ever happened. Ring troubleshooting information is useless. Thanks again!

My Ring Pro stopped working and seemed to be completely dead. I disconnected the power and reconnected a few times but the condition did not change. I found the hidden USB connector from this video and tried connecting it to a USB power supply. After a few minutes the device powered up and started working! I left it connected overnight and then re-installed the doorbell and all seems fine!
    Thanks for your post!

So this method didn’t work for me, but appreciate the video. Ring was very helpful and is sending a replacement.
Word of caution - if you DO call them for support or warranty do NOT mention that you’ve tried this. The agent I spoke with hesitated, then said she wasn’t putting this attempt in the warranty notes. Their position is they are aware of this video and others like it but that the microUSB port is not to be used and can “damage” the device. Not sure how accurate that is but keep it to yourself if you have to resort to trying this as many of us have.

Thank you so much for putting this video out. Had ring pro for three years it worked as of seeing videos and recordings but couldn't see live when a person rings door bell. friend told me about voltage to the door bell. I was getting 13.5 volts. changed transformer out to 16 volts 30 vac as suggested by ring. Then my ring pro never turned on. maybe took me a hour to change out the transformer. talked to ring customer support for a hour and half. they walked me threw all the hoops. I knew it was out of warranty. they did give me a discount code for 35% off ring product. But before I threw it in the trash I came across your video. I plugged it in a to a 1.5 amp charger for 24 hrs. It didn't turn on. unplugged and put it in my amazon fire stick plug that powers it up. With in 2 min it came on. Hooked it up to the door bell wires getting 18.5 volts. Know it works just like should. So thank you again.

I have a theory that they do this after so many years so that you think it is bad and buy a new one lol 😅. Resetting it, resetting the router (All suggested by ring) Did nothing. I didn't have to land it charge for more than 5 minutes. As soon as it turned on, found the network I took it right back out and hooked it up. Thank you again 💖

I recently installed the Ring doorbell Pro and it worked fine for about an hour. After installing three ring floodlight cameras I notice the doorbell was off line. About every 1 to 3 min I would notice one white circle rotate around the face of the doorbell but on the ring app it depicted no voltage. I took it off and checked the voltage and only had 11 volts. I purchased a new 16-24 volt (30 VA) transformer, installed it, and then had 21 volts at the doorbell. However, after watching this video the day before I also plugged the doorbell in overnight and let it charge. After installing the new transformer and allowing the doorbell to charge overnight, as I was reinstalling the doorbell it immediately began the installation application. I am not sure what charging the doorbell did overnight, but it worked. THANK YOU!

What a lifesaver! Thank you for this! Shame on ring for not mentioning this anywhere in the help section. On the Pro 2 it works as well but the flap is glued shut on the right side just below the orange setup button if anyone else needs this info. I had to use a precision ~1.4mm flathead screwdriver to get under the flap and slowly pry it up to access the port.

    • @imagesh1
      @imagesh1 4 года назад +5

A follow-up... the next big cold snap two weeks later and again the Ring Pro was "dead". Turns out that the tiny "non-replaceable" internal lipo battery eventually gets to the point when it can't keep a charge, and will become the thing that dead-ends the Ring Pro eventually. It's absolutely needed, as without the battery it can't keep working for the brief time the door-bell is actually being used. What a great design. The only recourse is the replace the non-replaceable battery. You'll find a replacement breakdown on iFixit. It's not an easy replacement, requiring tiny surgical soldering, but it is possible with care. My Ring Pro has now been fine through many cold snaps.

Thank You SIR !!!! Today I changed out the old transformer from 16v - 10va to 16v - 30va and the pro power kit in the chime in the hallway and then completed the install of the new ring doorbell pro.
It came to life and completed the setup I was happy 😊, about an hour later I came back up and pressed the button and heard the chime from the unit and I thought all is good.
A little while later I looked at the app and it showed it’s off line 😮.
I rechecked reading’s at the transformer, it’s good then the chime it’s good then the ring unit and its good. I tried resetting and showed no power, WHAT !!
I went on RUclips typed in my issue and that’s when I found your video, I was amazed!
It’s plugged into my laptop and the light came on in about one minute 😅🎉😂!!
I overlooked page 30 2nd paragraph, let it charge. There’s a power cell inside basically for memory
This is right out of Rings manual and there is no mention of a USB terminal 😢

I had this same problem after over two years of trouble-free operation. I couldn't get it to power back on. I tried this (left it connected to USB overnight) and it worked temporarily for a few days once re-installed. It has failed again so I went through Ring Support and after troubleshooting for a while, they offered a free replacement as they said it is not performing to Ring standards. My device was bought in March 2017 but not directly from them so they do not know how old it is from my account and they didn't ask - although it was from Amazon and they bought Ring so maybe they do know its age. I had to send a picture of the back of the doorbell pro so they new the serial number and ID of the device. I am based in the UK. They say the new one will arrive in 7-10 days.

I've got the same problem, I'm going to try this tomorrow when I am home - thank you. Ring didn't suggest this.
My theory is that the device gradually loses charge over time, and the transformer provides a charge but is not quite enough so there is a deficit over time. This can take years.
I noticed over a few weeks missed rings, and delayed notifications. Then, I did some electrical work elsewhere which meant I had to switch the electrics off. I think this exacerbated the situation as it went totally dead after (I've had an electrician confirm the device is getting ample power)
So, I shall try this tomorrow and reply back here with an update.

Cool I found this. I’m gonna have to give it a try. Mine ring doorbell pro has seemed to have been failing lately and won’t power on at all. Finally got it to work again but the button would blink a blue light(charging I assumed) did this for about 3 days, couldn’t ring the doorbell with the button but all motion and live captures worked fine. Now it’s not working at all again so I’m going to try and charge it up with the USB port tomorrow.

    Great video -
Can I use the ring device without it being connected to my doorbell?
I want to use the recording features only , I plan to just charge it and mount it , paying the monthly subscription.

I have the 24v transformer and ran into the not powering on issue. Plugged in via usb and bam! Powered on, blue ring light lights up in quarter increments and then will go white when charged up. Hooked it back up and it’s working perfectly. My ring pro is 4 years old, I can see this happening every time it gets really cold again where the battery just can’t keep the charge anymore but they...this got it back up working and didn’t have to buy a new one....yet.

Thanks ever so much, I’m having audio issues with mine. I spoke to ring and they had every excuse under the sun, eventually they replaced it, now I’ve heard they only last around 12 months and have issues with this internal Cap or battery. I was hoping to see a tear down. Many thanks 🇬🇧🇬🇧

@@MarkWilliams-ix1qf thanks for that, I’ve just looked at it, it 250 quid. To be honest the ring doorbell takes quite a bit of time from the time someone rings the bell to the time you load it on your phone if you’re out that most of the time the persons left anyway

Very helpful video. I guess an army of tinkerers has found new tricks for restarting the Ring Pro. I have one so now I know what to do if this happens. There is no excuse for having this problem, they must know about it. Does the Ring Pro 2 have this?

I ran into the same problem; the mobile app instructions DO NOT say anything about removing the faceplate to get to the reset button (or micro-USB port.) I had to figure that out on my own.

Mine was not working at all, so I checked the voltage and it's 20 VAC. I disconnected it for like 10 minutes and when I connected it again it flashed blue on the top only for like a minute and then stopped flashing. It still didn't work. I connected it to a laptop through the USB and the white leds lit around forming the circle once and then blinked blue on the top again for like a minute and then stopped blinking. I just left it there "charging" if that's what its doing. Will connect it outside in like an hour to see if that did anything.

Giving this a try right now. After a large storm with driving rain my Pro stopped working. I thought it was the transformer but that reads good on the meter. The Ring Pro has been sitting there with a white light on the ring. It wouldnt ring or work at all.

I just wanted to confirm, that I pulled this unit and plugged it in just as shown. I let it plugged in for about 15 minutes, removed from power. Pushed the button and the ring made the ring chime noise. Proceeeded to reinstall and perfect. What a weird thing, but this esentially reset my ring to work again. Worth trying before replacing if anyone else has a similar issue.

Just take it back to the store. I tried this for my doorbell pro that I just bought. The usb charging didn't work and I ended up just returning to the store for an exchange. The new one worked immediately, so if you're in my situation just save yourself time and take it back to the store because you may have a defective unit.

So is this a design to have ppl send them in to get “fixed” and this is all they do but charge you for it? I just checked the voltage at the doorbell and I’m getting 21v and I’m getting a “not connected to the internet” out of the blue and it will not power on. I’m about to try this and if this works I’m never buying another ring product again (or any other product that they may have bought out but try to keep the names separate)
