"Backdoor man" is an old term meaning "man on the side." When the husband leaves the house by the front door, the lover sneaks in by another entrance. This is such a great performance, I'm glad you watched it.
They weren't a heavy metal band, but their blues/hard rock sound and willingness to experiment and take chances influenced more later bands/musicians, including metal, than any band in history. Without Zeppelin, later music like metal and grunge wouldn't sound like it does.
John Paul Jones is the fourth member, often out of sight in their videos. He's multi-instrumental, though usually he's playing bass or keys (where he can cover bass parts as well as rhythm chording).
They have a wide variety of music genres ranging from folk rock, funk rock, hard rock, blues rock and slow music. I think you would like their catalogue of music. There are 4 members of the band. John Paul Jones plays keyboards like on this song but also plays bass guitar. If he is on the keyboards and there is a bass line he uses foot pedals to play it Musical genius. Great reaction. Led Zeppelins genre generally tends to fall under awesome, a tad bit more awesome & excessively awe-inspiring awesome. People can interpret their own perception & perspective of what heavy metal is, and actually doesn't matter much. Zep grooved funky, country, hard ass rock, and tuti frutti rock and roll, heavy doses of the blues, but really songs like In The Light, No Quarter, The Rain Song, Thank You, Achilles Last Stand, Down By The Seaside, are just some examples of what I mean a genre of excellence, not any one form. Humans naturally seek out order & understanding and categorizing is one way of doing that. No one basic category fits Zep. Enjoy the journey.
Led Zeppelin are NOT Heavy Metal, They're Rock, Blues/Rock, They basically listened to a lot of American Blues from the south and incorporated then into their music. Listen to their version of an old blues song called *When the Levee Breaks*

unfortunately, younger people have done a "revisionist" rebranding of some of the classic bands, and Zep is often referred to as a metal band these days by folks who were not there. They see them as a "bridge" from rock to metal. We knew them as "hard rock", but they were SO diverse....as you know, they played every genre. The only hard rock band I will admit as a a bridge to metal is Black Sabbath. They were indeed the hardest and heaviest "rock" band ever.
