He got John Paul Jones from the Sessions world and worked with him back when Page did that. For drums and singer Page was forced to go with two obscure guys in the midlands of England because no one else was interested. What Page ended up with was a band of all GOATS. And the greatest rock band in history.
Also, check out an early Led Zeppelin video from 1968/69. They are playing You Shook Me. A great blues song and it will blow your mind. Also check out When the Levee Breaks. There is a great compilation video of the guys in this video.
Hands down the greatest band of all time. Jimmy is the greatest ever in my opinion. Over 50 years listening to these monsters. I've heard them all and no one comes close. 😊
Cant agree with you more, led zep have been my all time fave band ever, still are after over 50 yrs of hearing their pure music magic.ive never heard a poor performance by them.GENIUS'S TOTALLY. dont get bands to their caliber these days,no auto tune etc. Many great bands but no one touches them.i just can only imagine whatelse they could of done if it wasnt for the almighty god on the drums with bonzo sadly passing.
Sebs, don’t worry about becoming “mainstream”. There’s never going to be anything mainstream anymore. Now you’ve heard it, you can’t unhear it! This song… Look, I’m 66 now and I still have “special feelings“ when I hear this song!😎🫠
This was their 1973 concert at Madison Square Garden. I was a sophomore in high school, and it was the first concert I ever went to. And also the best ever concert that I ever went too. Simply Amazing! One of the best nights of my life.
Lucky you. I got to see them when they made their debut in Toronto at the Rock Pile a 2,000 person club twice and then in 1972 at a smaller auditorium. They were amazing.
I consider this their masterpiece. All 4 are at the peak of passion, and Jimmy plays his guitar like it's his lover. He has a lot of critics but I don't care what any of them say. His guitar takes me places that don't exist on this earth. As he said once "I don't play music, I play feelings". You might want to check out "The Rain Song" from this same concert

Jimmy doesn’t make mistakes. A lot of critics also say he’s sloppy. That is Jimmy. He plays with purpose. They all do. If every note were sung, picked, drummed, and piped out perfectly it wouldn’t be Led Zeppelin.
Only Led Zeppelin could transform a sold-out arena into a blues dive bar in an instant. This song (and NOT in a bad way) sounds and feels like a song you’d hear at a dingy blues bar somewhere in the South. I love it.
This is one of my favourite live performances of all time. It’s so beautiful and soulful from first note to end. You have merely dipped a toe into the greatness of Led Zeppelin and if you like the guitar, the blues, swagger and surprise, you are in for quite the ride! Keep going, their versatility and range will blow your mind.
Hi just read your comment your right zeppelin is the best live Here is one of my favorite live performances If you could try Billy Joel's song New York state of mind live at the old gray whistle test its not zeppelin but Billy's performance on that night warrants a look in my top 5 of live performances its worth the time spent.

With Led Zeppelin's 8 albums.... and how they play things live differently....I will never get tired of this band. They play live tight and loose all at the same time.
Born in '67 I was part of that lost generation that missed everything that was cool about the 70ties, at least so it was in my perception. Fortunately my much older brother and sisters hat all those cool records, so just after the party was over, early eighties I was exploring in depth all that good music from that golden period. As a stranger within my own generation. Led Zeppelin was so damn good! I am very glad that the younger generation also starting to appreciate the quality of the music of that age. Looking back there was ofcourse also a lot of good music in the 80ties like Dire Straits, U2 Talking Heads, Roxy Music and Prince. But I still find the 70ties special. This life concert just shows how good Led Zeppelin really was. No tricks, no polishing voices and guitar with smart software. Raw and pure and perfect it is. Real craftmanship. Strong personallities that had something to give and to present and to tell to their audience.
I lived when this was going on. Led Zeppelin was there throughout my youth. Yes, they were the beginning, yes. We all knew that from the beginning. Love them all.❤️❤️🥰👍
Page always said he plays 'feel' not precision, he acknowledges he's not always precise but you feel every note. However if you listen to his studio work it's pretty flawless and they most often recorded live takes in the studio
I got to see Led Zeppelin live twice in the 70s then saw Page and Plant on their 94-95 tour then Jimmy Page with the Black Crows on '02. My second career was doing concert venue, tour and artist security. I also have been a drummer for 53 years and formed a band and am a drummer because of Bonzo and Zep as a whole. I had the pleasure of running back stage security for Robert Plant and the Amazing Space Shifters at the Santa Fe Opera House in 2019 where I sat on the backstage deck watching the sunset and talking with Robert Plant one on one for almost an hour. In this case meeting one of your heros (when I was 59 yrs old) was an awesome experience. I got to work him again last June in Taos NM with Allison Krause...awesome! I just retired from doing the security work and I have tons of great memories and as many awesome stories, some good some bad. If you ever get to see Plant live it's worth the cost of the ticket.
You had good times, I envy you. But I have seen Robert Plant Live on 2 occasions in the last few years with his latest band Saving Grace here in the UK. Both were superb concerts. Good luck to you in your retirement, never retire from great music.
@@manuman27 I agree. It is amazing how good Robert Plant still sounds. I feel lucky to have seen all the bands I have and luckier still to have worked, protected and met so many artists and crew members.
Wow…that all sounds AWESOME. I would love the opportunity to buy Robert a pint and just BS with him about mythology, history, Morocco etc. Just a small point: It’s Sensational Shape Shifters…..but they were indeed awesome! 😁
@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 you're correct, my mistake misnaming the Sensational Shape Shifters, my apologies. When I sat with him that afternoon and talked we talked about how quiet it is in the mountains of New Mexico and how he loved t.hem so much he had a home up near Peñasco, NM not far from the Opera House we were sitting and talking in. For me it was awesome!
Page also had complete control over producing editing mixing of their albums, which they may have been the first to do that. They also got it to where they got 90% of ticket sales, rather then only 10%. They broke ground in many ways, Plant also did the accounting for the band, saving them lots of money. Everything they do is amazing, some songs you’ll like more then others, but none are bad.
Actually it was Peter Grant the manager that got them the 90 percent and worked with their finances along with Page. Peter grant changed the way rock artists were treated and paid in those days and made sure the band got their money.
@@DianeLake-sw3ym yes I thought I had heard that, I didn’t state who got the 90%, but amazing it happened. Back then tickets really should have been more expensive, compared to today, glad they weren’t though I saw so many concerts.
Peter Grant was the 5th member of Zepellin, & it was because of him they got a £200,000 advance before they had even produced an album, at the time, that was unheard of, when they were called the New Yardbirds, he alone rewrote the manager's rule book for musicians. One of his innovations was that he realised as early as 1971, that all of the fans were coming to see Zepellin, so he decided that there would be NO support band, & if you went to a Zepellin concert you were going to see just Zeppellin. It was because of Grant that Zepellin became very rich, very quick, when bands in the 60,s were being ripped off left, right & centre, after less than 2 years they became the biggest band in the World, the Beatles had just split up & by this time they were outselling the Stones 2-1. Grant said to Jimmy " you lot concentrate on the music, & i wont intefere, & leave everything else to me", there will never be another Band like Zeppelin, or another manager like Grant. There are many interviews out there on youtube, of Jimmy, Robert, & John Paul saying about how he was the perfect manager. R. I. P. Peter Grant - 1935 - 1995.
I couldn't help but laugh at your reaction. Glad to see you get it. My older brother exposed me to LZ at age 10. Been a 50 yr. Fan! Led Zeppelin was the Big Bang of rock & roll.
1st band I saw live, circa 1973, ticket cost £1.25p. Changed my life, got me into music. Thanks Led Zeppelin, and you, for taking me back, taking me back, to where I came from.
Wow, what a great reaction! Love your passion for music, and the emotion you show while you're listening. Led Zep was a blues/rock band, especially early in their career. Listen to "When The Levee Breaks," or, "You Shook Me," (one of the best blues/rock songs *ever*) to hear more of the magic that was Led Zep.
I knew a few people who had seen them live several times and they were a LIVE Band and each time the songs were different but just as good in each varied version.
This is Jimmy's best guitar work on camera, probably. Months before this performance, he had a string of accidents including getting his hand slammed in a car door, to his fingers, it is amazing he was able to play at all. I saw Plant and Page in concert in 1997, and I was in the prescence of GODS. I stared at Jimmy's fingers on the big screen most of the show in amazement. Jimmy played a telecaster earlier, then switched to this particular Les Paul because it had a great sound (he got it from Joe Walsh, of Eagles, James Gang, and solo work fame (Rocky mountain way)
I love your reaction to this song. If you get a chance, check out their song "Kashmir". That is the song that the members of Led Zeppelin consider to be pretty much their best song. Live version or studio version, both are amazing.
Every single one of them are/were a different level of musician. John Bonham (RIP) - arguably the best drummer in any genre; John Paul Jones to this day is an amazing bassist and keyboardist; Jimmy Page - still amazing; Robert Plant - still unparalleled! I am privileged to have seen them!
IMHO the best blues song ever and my favorite Zepp track. I've listened to this song thousands of times ...... literally ...... and I'm still not weary of it at all. My favorite. The GOAT!!!
I was in the 10th grade when Led Zeppelin came through Los Angeles (with John Bonham's son Jason Bonham on drums), I had some friends going to the concert and of course my parents didn't let me go, but looking back, I guess it was the right choice, I prolly would have came home drunk and stoned, LOL. I finally had the pleasure of catching them when they came through again this time only Jimmy Page and Robert Plant I think it was 1994 and man it was hell-a-fun!!! They played 90% Led Zeppelin and 10% of new music but I didn't care, I got the Led out!!! 👊
I’m 54. Been listening to Zep since I was a kid in 1975. Page is a wizard. If you want to hear him shred the Scotty Moore licks, listen to bootlegs of Whole Lotta Love from 1970-73. Others were more consistent through the years, but few had the touch, feel and tone of Jimmy Page.
You sir, are listening to THE rock gods playing to us unworthy plebes. All others are mere upstarts, demigods, aspirers of the crown and throne. These guys are the absolute pinnacle of rock and roll! I mean, these guys literally got off a flight from the UK, already sleep deprived after being up for a couple days, and they STILL played Madison Square Garden at the peak of their ability! At least, that is how the legend of this performance goes. You can see Jimmy Page barely keep his eyes open in some videos of this show. The discography is so varied, but also heavily layered in blues with jazz improvisations scattered throughout. If you haven't sat down and listened to their entire catalogue, you REALLY should. My favorite album is "Physical Graffiti", but that's like picking which of your children is your most favorite! As for this video, there is a version of this performance that is live and unedited that shows the audience reaction. They go from absolutely mesmerized to stoned appreciation, and one woman sitting with her guy looks like she had a mental orgasm from Jimmy playing guitar! Funny to think those same people today are in their 70s and 80s! You MUST look deeper into Led Zeppelin, because these are the true gods of rock and blues!
My first time hearing Zepplin was at a party in 1969. I saw them live 3 times including this song, and their debut of Zep IV at the Boston Gardens. Without a doubt, the biggest musical influence of my life. Also one of the biggest pleasures as when I pick up my guitar a Page composition always comes out first. I've probably heard this song thousands of times and it's still brings tears to my eyes. Greatest rock band ever, each album was a new paradigm.
Led Zeppelin were multi layered and played 3 distinct types of music (no other bands did this) ... they played hard driving rock, Mississippi Delta Blues and English Folk music.
There are plenty of arguably great lead guitar players and i liked your list but Jimmy has that brilliance from having been a session player for years, that he doesn't overplay his hand in songs, whilst still producing magnificent solos and riffs. At the same time, he is one of the most innovative musicians to ever exist but i love the emotion he expresses in the way he plays guitar, which varies depending on the song. Oh, and did i mention the drummer? Just stop it...he is on another plane.
Zeppelin are the Goats. As far as mistakes, a better way to put it maybe is ad-libbing, although some could be mistakes. But Jimmy was never one to try and play a song technically precise live. I saw him in a interview once saying that, that was the beauty of playing live you play how you feel and it's all part of the experience even the mistakes. Unlike most modern acts where everything is rehearsed and choreographed down to the last detail, they gave you a different performance every night and saving the perfect execution for the studio albums. Anyway, great reaction the more Zep the better. I would like to request reacting to "Ten years gone" great song.
What a band thank you god that Iived to hear them. I am 62 now and first heard them at about 12-13 still love them and they transport me back in so many ways Jimmy has also been humble enough to say ' i'm not always the greatest guitarist in the room"
Watch their Kashmir Live on Celebration Day. They were in their 60's and still rocked it. Amazing video and performance. This concert was held in 2007, their one-off reunion show and holds the world record for the highest demand for tickets for one concert...20 million.
Back in high school, MTV played “The Song Remains the Same” every Saturday night with no commercials non stop!! I was high a lot just groovin this we’re seeing now!!
I don’t think people realise that Glen A Baker who was all about music, coined led zeppelin as the sound of heavy metal falling, this is how heavy metal came Into existence. Also we have To remember that all they had was an amp, microphone and instruments, no looper, technology that we have now, it was as raw as you can get… miss Bonham so much. Most drummers are in sync with the bass player, but if you listen carefully, you will notice that he is in sync with Jimi Page… incredible👏
I don't click on this for memories, I click on it to see the reactions of young people to the real music I grew up on. I just watched your reaction to Crossroads from Cream. I remember when that came out. I was so lucky to live in that time. The musicians now can reject all the technological marketing bs and just play real music. No f**king autotune. Disgusting. Just show us your talent. I know it's out there.
Adding a few weeks later. You read Jimmy being the best guitarist but, did you know that John Bonham is seen as the best drummer ever and Robert Plant is basically tied with Freddie Mercury as the greatest singer of rock ever. John Paul Jones is seen as this genius. Underrated as the quiet one he actually has spent his life learning and perfecting his skills. Not just as a bassist but also keyboard which broadened the ability of Zeppelin to bring even more diverse and creative songs Like Kashmir to the arena. The influence Zeppelin has had on every band after them is apparent. But, none of them understood the band completely. They only saw the hard rock. And the posturing sex symbol singer. The riff player and the myths and reality of their on the road escapades. But, the imitators never understood the intellect and diversity of the band. The bringing in of English mythology, folk, real blues, acoustic sounds and international sounds, Tolkin (A passion of Robert Plant who was a huge reader) and all who were curious of the world as well of the past. The influence of Jazz and blues and English folk songs. This went over the heads of Zeppelin's imitators who were quite shallow.
Listen to every live song of thiers you can. The albums were the best, but thier live work were where they truly shined. 4 goats, letting the music breathe and each member to shine they were incomparable.

We all need a drink and a cigarette after listening to that. Led Zep, best ever, none other.
It’s so cool to see younger people discovering Zeppelin. Thanks!!!
Sebs, don’t worry about becoming “mainstream”. There’s never going to be anything mainstream anymore. Now you’ve heard it, you can’t unhear it!
This song… Look, I’m 66 now and I still have “special feelings“ when I hear this song!😎🫠
Led Zeppelin never played a song the same twice
No quarter from the same concert is his greatest live solo 👍
This live version is EPIC!!
Yep! No point in listening to any other recording, it's too disappointing.
They were amazing.
too cool! I graduated high school in 73 as well, saw them at The Salt Palace in Salt Lake City! We had te best music!
Man.... Zeppelin just gives u the chills all over!! Was lucky enough to see them In 1977. Best concert ever!!🤘🔥✌️💫😎
This is when musicianship was a craft taken seriously and for the truly talented it could be a life changing experience.
I just like watching when people realize why they STILL see and hear the name Led Zeppelin!
As a guitarist, listen to this performance again to the bass lines JPJ is playing on organ bass pedals while he’s playing the electric piano…
**Beautifully** said YAY **Luvit** no one can compare to **MyJimmyPageGeniusMusicalMagicalWizardBabe** & Thank **YOU** cuz i feel the same way time & space disappear for me & yep i am in that place that does not exist on this earth exactly! i saw him once also introduce his guitar to the audience as his **Mistress** **LightningStruck** He was born to do what he does no doubt bout it! **RockON!!!**
Marvellous
There’s stuff I don’t need as long as I have Led Zep 🇦🇺🎸⚡️🤘🏾🤘🏼💋💙💙
Nothing compares, not now not ever, it is just superb and super natural
One of the greatest live performances of all time ..........ever
Jimmy doesn’t make mistakes. A lot of critics also say he’s sloppy. That is Jimmy. He plays with purpose. They all do. If every note were sung, picked, drummed, and piped out perfectly it wouldn’t be Led Zeppelin.
anytime jjimmy touches a guitar string it is art... by definition.
IMPROVISATION!
Only Led Zeppelin could transform a sold-out arena into a blues dive bar in an instant. This song (and NOT in a bad way) sounds and feels like a song you’d hear at a dingy blues bar somewhere in the South. I love it.
i clicked on this video because I graduated from high school in 1976
WE HAD THE BEST BANDS
We sure as hell did,1975 grad.

Class of '76!!
Hi just read your comment your right zeppelin is the best live
Here is one of my favorite live performances If you could try
Billy Joel's song New York state of mind live at the old gray whistle test its not zeppelin but Billy's performance on that night warrants a look in my top 5 of live performances its worth the time spent.
A baby toe😊
My upload from last week was the wrong file lol and we had to wait for copyright restrictions to be lifted. Thank you for being here, though!
You do a fabulous job... much love to you and your girls...💜💜💜
Please please do (WHOLE LOT OF LOVE) or (IMMIGRANT SONG) I'm not familiar with all of led zep, but these two I know well other than stairway, and they are freaking EPIC, must hear!❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of my all time favorites!!! Love it when Zeppelin does the blues!!
You would enjoy Ten Years Gone!
There is more than a little blush influence on this piece....just great.
This isn't a blues influenced rock song, it's a rock influenced blues song. 100%
Great Point !!!!🔥💙🙏🏾🌎🎵
Love them all.❤️❤️🥰👍
The GOAT!
That performance was unbelievable! I love watching people watch it for the first time because it totally outstandingly amazing.
Page always said he plays 'feel' not precision, he acknowledges he's not always precise but you feel every note. However if you listen to his studio work it's pretty flawless and they most often recorded live takes in the studio
Ironically executed amazing well until 77
Their “Achilles Last Stand” live from Knebworth is epic
@@DianeLake-sw3ym yes it was Peter Grant, I just meant they were the first band to get 90%.
@@francishughes542 I’ve watched as many as I’ve been able to find. A funny one is Plant & Page in Japan in the 90’s.
Not just legendary - Led Zeppelin are the Norse gods of rock & roll. They have ascended.
Thank you for playing Led... My all time favorite band ❤️❤️.. Please please play Kashmir ❤️❤️❤️🙋🏼♀️💯💯💯💯💯
❤❤❤❤ more Zeppelin, always more Zeppelin
Jimmy was a sought after session player before the yardbirds. he is the man
I couldn't help but laugh at your reaction.
Glad to see you get it. My older brother exposed me to LZ at age 10. Been a 50 yr. Fan! Led Zeppelin was the Big Bang of rock & roll.
Eargasm ha ha thats it. I have been seen and hearing this performance at least a hundred times and still get it. By the way , your reaction was GOLD.
The call and response in this song is so good. They were at their prime here.
Loved the time; nothing can beat 70s music!
In my time of dying...IT'S A MUST live...you're welcome.
Since the first time I i heard this song, it not only instantly became my favorite Zep song, but one of my all-time favorite songs EVER.
Perfect performance
Dazed and Confused is a must. No, wait, Kashmir is a must. Oh, hell, do ‘em both.
Kashmir definitely
Try “In My Time of Dying.” Another phenominal blues song by LZ.
Listen to "When The Levee Breaks," or, "You Shook Me," (one of the best blues/rock songs *ever*) to hear more of the magic that was Led Zep.
one of my all time fav live performances by anyone ever..it made me see Led Zeppelin from a way different lens
🎸Oh Jimmy 🎸
heh Oh Jimmy IS the Best!
Love him!
I knew a few people who had seen them live several times and they were a LIVE Band and each time the songs were different but just as good in each varied version.
The GOATS of metal. I was at this concert in 73. I saw them 2 nights that week as they finished out their U S Tour.
They were never metal.
Jimmy played a telecaster earlier, then switched to this particular Les Paul because it had a great sound (he got it from Joe Walsh, of Eagles, James Gang, and solo work fame (Rocky mountain way)
There is a reason Led Zeppelin is legendary.
I love your reaction to this song. If you get a chance, check out their song "Kashmir". That is the song that the members of Led Zeppelin consider to be pretty much their best song. Live version or studio version, both are amazing.
In 1970 i was 10 years old i first heard Zeppelin...it blew me away and they remain my favorite!!
Same here. the first was Immigrant Song on AM radio. FM was just up and coming back then. I was about your age then as well. I was 12.
ROCK GODS
IMHO the best blues song ever and my favorite Zepp track. I've listened to this song thousands of times ...... literally ...... and I'm still not weary of it at all. My favorite. The GOAT!!!
I saw Led Zepplin in London when I was 16, I was too young to appreciate how damn exquisite they still are
I was in the 10th grade when Led Zeppelin came through Los Angeles (with John Bonham's son Jason Bonham on drums), I had some friends going to the concert and of course my parents didn't let me go, but looking back, I guess it was the right choice, I prolly would have came home drunk and stoned, LOL. I finally had the pleasure of catching them when they came through again this time only Jimmy Page and Robert Plant I think it was 1994 and man it was hell-a-fun!!! They played 90% Led Zeppelin and 10% of new music but I didn't care, I got the Led out!!! 👊
I listen to Zeppelin every week..for 50+ years....still can't get enough. Saw them live and will never forget it!
Only taken you 55 years, mate! Better late than never....I'm proud to be British, for many reasons.
Studio version of When the Levee Breaks is a must listen IMO
This is a cover, but a great cover!
David Gilmour of pink Floyd has truly fabulous guitar abilities ❤
You should watch them do Kashmir live from Celebration Day if you haven’t already. It will totally surprise you!
"Dazed and Confused" Studio Version Only. "Black Dog," "When the Levee Breaks," "Immigrant Song," etc.
What a band thank you god that Iived to hear them. I am 62 now and first heard them at about 12-13 still love them and they transport me back in so many ways Jimmy has also been humble enough to say ' i'm not always the greatest guitarist in the room"
That's what i had to groove on 😊😂🎉🎉come all ye faithful 😂
Watch their Kashmir Live on Celebration Day. They were in their 60's and still rocked it. Amazing video and performance. This concert was held in 2007, their one-off reunion show and holds the world record for the highest demand for tickets for one concert...20 million.
yeah in a stadium 😎
Robert Plant, lead singer, has a very versatile voice. Look up his duets with Allison Krauss. She is a multi-talented musician and has a unique voice.
Back in high school, MTV played “The Song Remains the Same” every Saturday night with no commercials non stop!! I was high a lot just groovin this we’re seeing now!!
The gods that are LZ. They will live forever, & I am an old dude who has been with them since age 15 yr.
Worship ❤
I don’t think people realise that Glen A Baker who was all about music, coined led zeppelin as the sound of heavy metal falling, this is how heavy metal came
Into existence. Also we have
To remember that all they had was an amp, microphone and instruments, no looper, technology that we have now, it was as raw as you can get… miss Bonham so much. Most drummers are in sync with the bass player, but if you listen carefully, you will notice that he is in sync with Jimi Page… incredible👏
77 yrs old and Jimmy Page still gives me goose bumps
They are the greatest rock band in history.
I never get tired of listening to this performance, doesn’t get any better than this
Listen to every live song of thiers you can. The albums were the best, but thier live work were where they truly shined. 4 goats, letting the music breathe and each member to shine they were incomparable.
I love that EARGASM !!😂😂😂😂😂 Led has been given me one for years!!!!
