      Yeah but why is it MANY these regular looking Mexicans in Texas are as racist and more racist towards black Americans than most white people I've met?! And I was told by some Mexicans that dark Mexicans and black Mexicans are discrimated against by regular looking Mexicans.. So I say it's no such thing as black Mexicans.. They're just black people... even could be Africans that wounded up in Mexico,and started speaking Mexican language..

      @@joseluisnietoenriquez6122 Even Spaniards can have very tanned skin color! My brother, an aunt and a sister all traveled to Spain (on separate trips), and after viewing hundreds of their photographs of the local Spaniards, I concluded that yes, some are fair, but many are light to medium olive tan skin, and actually some were even what I would call “dark”, and yes, they were Spanish natives, even the darker ones! Hey, I’m a Mexican American and I absolutely LOVE MY TANNED SKIN, even if others don’t! Who in the h*ll cares what some ignorant individuals think, they’re NOT God. If a teacher heard the kids speaking Spanish at all to anyone including each other the kids would get paddled as a punishment and made fun of. This is true. My parents didn't want us to go thru this either in the 60's. We were born in 50's with very American names. ❤Mostly American actors and actresses. When we went to school we did witness kids who spoke Spanish being paddled by mainly white teachers. My parents didn't teach us Spanish. Even our last names were pronounced differently and spelled differently. So they sounded very American English. We were told to go back to our Country. Not to speak Spanish. Sit in the back of the room. Learn how to speak English because this is America. There were no bilingual teachers,police officers,etc. My sister came home one day and was taking a bath. She was using a scrub brush and cleanser to to clean herself. She rubbed her skin raw. They told her that she was dirty because of the color of her skin. That she was a dirty Mexican. That only white people can come to school. So she tried to wash her skin white. Back then everyone stayed within their own ethnicity groups. Because of the prejudice. There were a lot of rules that our parents had us follow and curfews. It was really bad back then for all minorities. Always be proud of who you are and where you come from. Don't lose or give up your cultural heritage for anyone.

      (1) The Spanish people speak a totally borrowed language, a dialect or branch of Italo-Latin mixed with many thousands of Arabic words. Very few words of the indigenous Hispano-Iberic language remain in use.
      (2) The culture of Spain is a complex mixture of Latin-Italic, North African, Middle Eastern, Greek, Gitano (Gypsy), and other characteristics, with very few indigenous (pre-Roman) traits remaining, except among the Basques and Gallegos.
      (3) Racially, the modern Spaniard probably carries relatively few indigenous genes, the latter having been greatly overwhelmed by Carthaginian, Celtic, Latin-Roman, Germanic, Arab, Moorish, Berber, Jewish, black African, and Gitano intermixture.

      Federico Navarrete, Historian, Anthropologist UNAM - Between 1821 and 1910: 3.5 million Indigenous people were categorized as Mestizo. •By the time the Mexican census of 1930 took place: 30% of the entire Mexican population who has been categorized as Indigenous, was now categorized as “Mestizo.” Historians argue that this was also done to repress “Casta Wars” and erase the power of the Indigenous population. The white elites feared that they would lose power. •Mestizaje was not a racial reality but rather a “massive linguistic displacement.” Indigenous people were whiten through language and culture markers, not racial.

The public school refused to enroll her because she didn't speak English, so her mom enrolled her in the Seventh-Day Adventist school, which took her, but put her in the 1st Grade (she should've been 4th Grade), telling her through her older brother (he learned English in high school in South Dakota) that she would stay in the 1st Grade for the rest of her life until she learned English. Native American came to be known as descendants of Europeans born in the Americas if you go back through the definitions. So if a person has 70% or 40% native, it’s going by ethnicity which is a type of mix. Haplogroups which goes by mitochondrial DNA shows that many natives are Asians born in the Americas and mestizo is also a type of mix typically coming from Asian moms with European dads although some have European moms and Asian dads. The haplogroups that again go by the mitochondrial DNA which is the X from the mom that both female XX and male XY offspring carry, shows that haplogroups A,B,C,D,M,N and X are all Asian or Eurasian haplogroups and those also branch off of L3 which is the same lineage as the Egyptians, Ethiopians, Libyans, and Canaanites etc. The Roman’s were also from those lineages, and the Roman’s from where Latin comes from which is also a root of the ROMANce languages including Spanish are where the natives who are descendants of Europeans born in the Americas come from. Again modern Native American is a type of mix and it’s similar to Mestizo. So haplogroups reflect what has been outlined. Also indigenous is not always interchangeable with native as it can also be status.

      The caste system was used in many places, but is well known in India as well as parts of the Americas. It shows depictions of how to obtain racial whiteness or becoming a better class based on whitening which in Latin America was known as blanquimiento. The Wht-Europeans wanted to Whitewash the places they colonized. It is known in India as well where there was a class system and the dark Indians were considered less desirable than the white ones and it still continues today, bleaching is very popular in parts of Asia and has spread around the world including places like South Africa where the Indian population is very high and it’s has spread to the Americas. In the 1800’s European were brought to the Americas in large numbers to help with the blanquimiento (whitening) of the Americas after slavery began to go down. During slavery many women were gRaped as a way to create more slaves and lessen the melanin in the Americas. So you can go over more on your own, but that is some of what the caste system is and there were depictions to go with it.

    The history of segregation against Mexicans is not widely known, yet for decades Mexicans and Mexican-Americans were not allowed to go to movie theaters unless they sat in the balcony and they were not allowed to enter swimming pools over the weekend while white people swam. They had to wait until Mondays “when the water was dirty and after we got in the pool they would take out the water and put new water in for the white children,” Mendez said. Public schools were also segregated. There were “whites only” schools and Mexican schools. In 1945 when the Mendez kids were rejected from enrolling in their community school, Gonzalo Mendez, Sylvia’s father, took the issue to court.
    Mendez v. Westminster became the first case in U.S. history to rule on desegregation, forcing schools in Orange County to integrate in 1947. The landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that later ended legal segregation in all public schools nationwide used some of the arguments used in the Mendez case.

    To the creator, i think you missed a large piece of this story by not connecting it to the history of California, especially the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo.
    The case didn't just involve CA law but also federal law and treaty law. When Mexico signed the treaty with the US to end the war, they knew how Africans and indigenous people were treated and did not want the Californios and other Mexican citizens to suffer the same fate. In the treaty they negotiated that those of Mexican ancestry needed to be treated as equal to whites, that the superior position of women in Mexican society be recognized, and the land rights as well.
    So when the Lemon Grove case came up, the ruling was directly affected by this, as the Mexican-American children by law and treaty were equal and needed to be treated as such. No segregation allowed. This is also why we have the census distinction of white-Hispanic and white- non Hispanic.
    The treaty is also why CA was one of the first states(maybe the first) where women got half in a divorce, because that was Mexican law before the war.
    Sadly only a handful of the most powerful families held on to their land after the gold rush. Most got swindled out of their land through malicious misrepresentation of Mexican era diseños. Mexican Americans definitely weren't treated equally, but got a fairer shake than other groups.
    I think this court case is also directly connected to the forced migration of a half a million Mexican-American citizens from the Southwest to Mexico in the 1930s.

    I’m 3rd generation Mexican American and since I was a child in the 1960’s, I’ve never thought of myself or others whose ethnic origins are from Mexico, as “white” because the definition of “white” is: peoples from northern, central (which includes Spain) and Eastern Europe who do NOT have any mixture of indigenous Latin American tribes in their genetics. I definitely do have indigenous genetics in my dna and I would NOT consider myself “white”. The vast majority of people who have any ancestors from Mexico have at least “some” indigenous blood, and that is just a FACT. And, it’s A-OK to have indigenous dna, to individuals who ONLY want to emphasize the “Spanish”! To not include the indigenous genetics is to buy into an old racist attitude that a Mexican American must be “ashamed” of the non Spanish part of him/her. That’s a bunch of BS! Get a backbone, people!!

So if a "black" person who speaks whatever language, they are going to know who they really are first. But Spanish speaking people that are not of Spain, really love putting themselves as Spaniard people, it like they hate who they really are, and really wants to be white Spaniards. • @bluetinsel7099
      @bluetinsel7099 Год назад +2

      Asian is an ethnicity and ethnicities are types of mixes and indigenous is a status. There are black, white and mixed and just as their are different types of white, there are also different types of black. The mixed were known as Arab or Arab-Mamzer depending on the mix. If the dad mixed with a different nation from his own then that child would be known as Arab-Mamzer if a woman of a nation mixed with a different nation of man from her own then her child would be Arab as Arab means mixed, but mamzer means illegitimate. The Illegitimacy comes from the child being a different nation than the dad and illegitimate in his nation. Nations go by the mom and tribes by the dad. Haplogroups go by mitochondrial DNA and that is the X chromosome each person carries from their mom. Tribes come under nations. Also native came to be known as descendants of Europeans born in the Americas. Mestizo is a type of mix typically of Asian moms and European dads. Roman’s who were Latin were Eurasian later some became Greco-Roman as there were those of Asian moms and European dads and others with European moms and Asian dads . The Roman’s were occupiers of Hebrew lands. Prior to Italy they were in Greece and prior to that Eurasia with many being from Asia. Haplogroups A,B,C,D,M,N, and X are all Asian or European and the branch off of L3 which is the same lineage as the Egyptians, Ethiopians, Libyans, Canaanites etc. from Genesis 10 with Ham and his wife. Also Japheth was occupying the land of Shem from Genesis 9:27 and Shem and his wife are the lineage of the Hebrews which is also where the Israelites are from. So nations go by the mom and tribes by the dad. Tribes come under nations just as Israelites are originally Hebrew with the exception of those who produced mamzer children that would be illegitimate.

      Asian is not a race, it’s a type of mix and a location so that could be ethnicity. Also Asians would descend from the same line of family and maternally they descend from L3 haplogroup which is a Hamitic line although there are some Japhethic branches as Ham and Japheth’s lines mixed. Haplogroups M and N descend from L3 by the way. So they may have taken different migration routes, but their dna still shows that Asians are types of Hamitic mixes which would make them ethnicities and not race.

And even the term "white" is arbitrary and inaccurate. I have family who have lived in Mexico since the id 1800s but we are European (I'm 6'4" with green eyes and had blonde hair as a kid). Remember there are a mutitude of ethnic groups within most nationalities and these cannot be accurately be categorized by vague terms like "white" or "Brown" etc.

    • @Egr-et6ar
      @Egr-et6ar 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@espada9 Mxican is a Nahuatl word which derives from Mexica. Spain is, clearly, far more of a mestizo nation (if that term is ever properly to be used) than is Mexico.
      Go more far back, and Eropeans have 3 common ancestors, indigenous hunter-gatherers, and the other 2 of them is Middle Eastern farmer DNA and Eurasian Steppe. Lounes Chikhi, from University College London, and colleagues estimated that Middle Eastern farmers contributed roughly 50 per cent of the analysed genes to modern European populations. Since modern-day northern Europeans descended in large part from the Corded Ware culture and therefore have more steppe ancestry than first-farmer ancestry. The modern populations with more Yamnaya-derived ancestry are, if I remember it correctly, the Norwegians and the Scottish.
      Those features you speak of originated from the Near East and brought into Erope. Studies have suggested that the two genes most associated with lighter skin colour in modern Europeans originated in the Near East and the Caucasus about 22,000 to 28,000 years ago, and were present in Anatolia by 9,000 years ago.

I actually have only 20% Spanish, I have more Portuguese than Spanish DNA with also 24% African and 19% native American/Taino DNA both of these I knew nothing about. All this was a total surprise, but I also learned, I found a birth certificate or documentation that my father's ancestry from 1620. My mother is mostly NA and African with about 30% Portuguese. What I'm getting at aren't most Mexicans have a very high NA percentage and now I know that many so called "Hispanics" have high % of African and NA DNA. Personally, I do not use the word "Hispanic" as basically my father's people are 300+ years removed from Europe, and I figured out where the Portugueses came from and that another story for another day!

The program would remove students from their classroom for huge swaths of time that ultimately negatively affect their integration. My mother used to get mad AF when the schools would insist I join the the program even though my english was fine. Missing hours of instruction on a daily basis caused many of the Spanish speakers I knew to fail grades.

    for a country that is so obsessed with race and identity, there's so much ignorance perpetuated in the U.S on this topic, I've had many friends say he's not white he's mexican, which first of all I never once tell people I'm mexican, I will tell them I'm latino/hispanic but they'll forget and default to Mexican (which my family is actually Salvy) but just the fact that they confuse nationality with race shows the problem. And though most latino's aren't 100% caucasian, most of us do have caucasian ancestry to say that we're not is rejecting a part of our heritage, And when I bring up how most of us speak a language originating from a caucasian country (Spain/Portuguese), practice a religion from Europe and some of us are even born with fair skin like myself then their perception switches to your not white, you guys are tan or olive skin.. (even though my skin tone is visually lighter than that caucasian american.. I guess I'm somehow just not white enough? Not to mention various federal forms like the census also labeling hispanic as a race which further perpetuates this. I am also proud of my indigenous heritage but I am mestizo meaning I'm mixed though I found that to mean I belong to both backgrounds, not one or the other or even neither as many people have come to believe.

    I found the video to be very interesting, especially since I am Mexican-American (born in Oregon, my parents are from Arizona and Texas) and I have family who grew up and still live in Lemon Grove. But to be objective, there may be another factor contributing to why we may be considered white.
    I found this topic interesting when I read my birth certificate, which had “white” listed as the race of both of my parents, who are both Mexican-American. Upon researching it further, I learned that the reason for this may be based on anthropology and not necessarily by race, heritage, genealogy, or culture. “Race is a socially defined aspect of identity that often incorporates biological characteristics such as skin pigmentation or facial features”. Although the government may consider us as white, the government also differentiates between Hispanic and non-Hispanic Whites. I also learned that features inherited from generation to generation are expressed in the morphology (shape) of the human skull. This is what I found while searching for skull types on the internet:
    “Forensic anthropologists examine the morphology of the skull in great detail and take measurements of multiple individual facets. Comparing this data with data from the worldwide population allows anthropologists to conclude where in the world an individual’s family has originated from. Individuals of European descent tend to have long narrow faces with fairly flat facial profiles and sharply angled nasal bones. Those of Asian ancestry have wider and shorter faces with prominent cheekbones while individuals of African descent have a wide nasal cavity and a prominent mouth region when viewed in profile”. Native Americans have the Asian skull type.
    Given the fact that Mexicans, or mestizos (culturally Mexican) are a mix of indigenous and Spanish people, we tend to have the Caucasian skull type, which stands to reason since we are neither Asian nor African in anthropological terms. I'm certain that there may be other factors that contribute to the topic as well, I'll need to do some more research on the topic.

We should have remained Mexican. Their Taxes are much Better than Ours.They Killed the Mexican President Because of His Stand on Slavery. Texas is full of PREDJUICE. When I was preteen I moved away from Los Angeles to Texas, leaving friends and family behind. Yes, there are more white people in TX. When I visit my family they call me “bolillo” because they say I’m “whitewashed”. The thing is, I’m not white washed. I hold my roots very close to my heart. In fact, I speak, read in write very fluently in Spanish better than my family and I take pride in that. I speak both English and Spanish with no accent of either origin. But they call me whitewash because I don’t follow or show the stereotype they follow.
    I got to live in Mexico and I was shocked how un-stereotype real Mexicans are and how Mexican Americans perceive them to be. I think it all depends on the genuine individual who does not follow a template that a certain group of people do. It’s all about breaking away from the tribal mindset and being your own genuine self. Separating being human from identity/ego.

    Spelling out the inconsistencies in how hispanic Americans have been treated and legally defined is an important statement in this video. I have cousins who are the children of both Mexican and Spanish immigrants and they choose to call themselves the latter because of the perceived whiteness (i.e. Europeanness) it conveys. To this day, Mexican immigrants are treated differently because of their predominately indigenous nature.

    • @culturalobserver8721
      @culturalobserver8721 9 месяцев назад +1

      Not sure what you mean by “indigenous nature”. Do you mean how they look?? Sounds like you’re trying to make an oh so subtle racial slur, eh?! By the way, not all Mexican Americans label themselves “Spanish” only. Many I have personally known (in California and the Southwest) are proud of their indigenous Mexican heritage. Perhaps 100+ years ago some Mexican Americans may have emphasized the Spanish, but that’s definitely not necessarily the case with many in this day and age!

    • @LuckyBruin1
      @LuckyBruin1 9 месяцев назад +4

      @culturalobserver8721
      Yes, I do mean because of how we look. My grandfather's lighter skinned, more Hispanic family treated my grandmother poorly because of her darker, more native looking complexion. Her 11 children, including my father, had her same darker complexion and were also looked down upon by their paternal uncle, aunts, and even some cousins because of it. While I will grant that it was 60+ years ago, there are still some subtle ways this still happens to this day. But who knows, maybe some of those Mexican Americans you have known in California are my cousins, who stretch the entire length and breadth of the state. There are so many that I have lost count.
      I am personally very proud of my mixed heritage, mostly Spanish, but quite a bit of indigenous, with a smattering of African and Jewish for good measure. But Mexican migrants are still treated differently in the United States to this day. It is one of the reasons why, when one hears mention of the border crisis, one immediately thinks of the southern border with Mexico and not those pesky Canadians who come visit us here in Arizona every winter.

I would also hear many of them say they were Spanish or Spanish Descendants which is partly or completely true depending on their ancestry.

    It is unfortunate that other ethnicities are now truly understanding and feeling what African Americans have been dealing with for a very long time. Discrimination is very repugnant, and as an African-American woman I have experienced it, as well as my people for a very long time. I hope that other ethnicities take this into consideration and understand that they must be mindful of how they treat, as well as engage with african-americans.
    Sadly other ethnicities who are non white have discriminated and treated African-Americans poorly as well. Now that other ethnicities are truly figuring out that not only are they being treated poorly now they understand what we've been going through. It's sad that it takes situations like this to bring all of this to light and have empathy for other people.

      European also came over in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s to partake in blanqueamiento which is racial whitening. There were Asians that were in the Americas prior who came from the Manila Galleon’s and they were later relabeled as natives, prior to them there were Asians that came over and colonized as well as Roman’s who were Latins who were Eurasians occupying Hebrew lands. So if people check their haplogroups more time than no it shows that many natives come from Asian moms and European dads. Their haplogroups A,B,C,D,M,N, and X branch off of L3 which is Hamitic and the same line as the Egyptians, Ethiopians, Libyans, Canaanites etc. so many natives were descendants of Europeans born in the Americas or Asians born in the Americas or a combination being Eurasian or Asiapean what many now would call mestizo which is a mix typically coming from Asian moms and European dads.
