My first four mice came with two 20-gallon tanks that I had to connect with tubes. The tubes were an absolute nightmare to work with (like they had to be held together with duct tape) and I had one escape artist mouse named Peppercorn who kept escaping through the holes in the wire mesh tops for the tubes. I lived in an awful place so she kept joining the wild mice that lived in the house and I spent a month straight trying to catch her. When I moved in with my dad last year, I only took one of the tanks and I left all the tubes behind because I intended to get something better ASAP. My grandpa bought me a 40-gallon reptile enclosure that opened in the front. I was going to go with an IKEA DETOLF but this was a more convenient option. It's easier to work with and clean because it opens in the front.

It’s taken me a while to forgive myself, but I have to remember that they were still loved, safe, and I am doing MUCH better this time around with my other boys
Would you be willing to make a video around caring for your mice each day? I know I want mice when I move out, but I don’t actually know how demanding their care is or if, realistically, I would be able to give them a happy life
I like to spend at least 15 mins a day with my boy but when I do I just take him out, make Shure his food is filled and I only have to change his water about once a week
We all make mistakes and know one is perfect and things are always changing or new products are coming out I think back of my first pet rat OMG first off a single rats I didn’t even get him a friend I can’t even remember what I feed him but I remeber his cage was small and had a wire wheel which was also small not to mention I was probably maybe 12yrs old. I live in the United States sadly and neutering male mice is on heard of like you are batshit crazy if you call up an exotic vet and ask if they can neuter your male Mouse that's why I'm thinking of rescuing African soft fur rats but the Dilemma is most African soft fur rats in United States are sold as feeder which means there's a high chance of me ending up with a pregnant soft for a rat Also the standard of mice care in the United States is very questionable some people say three mice can live in a 10 gallon tank other people say three mice should live in a 20 gallon long
Hello, I recently got two female african soft furs that I plan to introduce to my male mouse. The way I found is easiest (in my opinion) to find not pregnant females is to look for an ad on Craigslist or a similar website. Usually the people who have ASFs on there breed them themselves and separate them before the females reach maturity. Pet stores usually will not do this. Hope this helps!
Hi there! If you live near the Carolinas, I know a responsible breeder for ASF. They also sell acceptable bin cages if you're looking for a sizable enclosure. :)
Everyone makes mistakes tbh and with the amount of misinformation out there it's easy to find bad sources, my boy started off in a 10 gal, and had a few upgrades until just over a year later he had an Alaska and so much enrichment so thrived!! Idk if it was just luck but Clyde never smelled very bad at all so I appreciate that, I'd love to be able to have another boy soon, and maybe risk getting him neutered so he can have some companions.
I feel like even if you do a load of research, you're still going to make mistakes, there's a lot of things you learn after getting a pet that you don't learn from watching RUclips videos or reading website. Improving and learning comes with experience, and even if you've been owning that animal for 10 years, you can still make mistakes
I mean everyone makes mistakes. I had hamsters awhile back (2 years ago) and they lived in critter trails. I did more research and moved my current hamster shadow to a bun cage! He is super happy and I feel much better. 💕
Hi Emi, I have a video idea for you and I think it will be very helpful for us viewers. So basically my ideas is that you make a video of how to persuade your parents to let you get rats, as I really want rats and people like my parents think that rats are dirty, bite a lot, really smelly, and live in the sewers. You don't have to use this suggestion but I think it will really help in my opinion. Thanks a lot :)
Do you need a humidifier for your mice or what temperature should they be in I live in payson az and the hottest it gets here in the summer is 102 degrees in the summer and the winter its gets to 12 degrees
Hi Emi (I’m guessing that’s your name???) Anyway, I just wanted to say, I absolutely LOVE your videos!!! I have mice of my own and I’m so glad to see someone else who loves them as much as I do!!! Also, I was looking online for some new things for my mice the other day, and I found these adjustable leads for small animals, and immediately, I knew it was the perfect thing for your mice, your rats, and any other small pets you may have. They look like the perfect thing to let your pets explore the house without getting lost. Iwas thinking of getting some for my mice, and then I thought I had to tell you!!! Just search: Adjustable small animal leads’ on Amazon, and you can get them for like, three pounds each! I really hope you get some if you haven’t already! I don’t think you’ll even see this comment, but if you do, say hi to your mice for me!!! 😂🥰 Also, when will your ‘ask me about my mice’ merch be out??? I really want some!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Hey! Just convinced my parents to let me buy a much bigger and improved rat cage for four rats, they are completely supportive of the idea but don’t rly want to do too much DIY, are there any big cages you can recommenced which already have a deep-ish base/pan?
I used to keep mice and although I did more right things than wrong I realise they weren't kept in the best conditions even though I did my research. I miss them but don't miss their smell!
I remember my first guinea pig, I was probably 9 when I got her, she had a small cage but she so loyal and trained, she rarely ever in her cage, she would be on the floor of my room an sleeping on my laundry 😅, she was adventurous one, she went everywhere with me, she only in her cage is at night or when I'm in school, she lucky at the time there was no dogs besides a friendly/dumb cat, so she would follow me anywhere! If she still here, she would be 12 this Yr, she died at 7? She fell ill, my 2 girls now have c&c cage, fleece bedding, when I was ordered them new home my second guinea pig, I got her after Princess died(I didn't know guinea pigs need a friend), Princess just lucky along with pip squeak to have my full attention, the two youngily had met pip, now their 3 and 4 this yr, one of this is a trouble maker...
I ordered the pet planet rat and ferret cage but it doesn’t fit together!! the door won’t fit into the corner even though i’ve followed the instructions
I’m planning on getting 4 female mice and want to use a bin cage since they’re much cheaper than tanks, how big would it need to be for 4 and what can I do for hammocks and hanging toys?
I’m planning on getting mice too!! I have a 106qt bin, 450sq inches, and while asking around on mouse & rodent related forums/platforms, most people told me that the bin I have is only big enough for three mice. So, for four, you’d probably need upwards of 600sq inches! Don’t quote me on that though.
Hi 😊 I currently use the back 2 nature pellets in the cage and use science selective food. I didn't realise at all that they weren't ideal until watching this. Can anyone recommend any products/brands that would be better to replace them with? Thank you!
My mice keep fighting and I don't know what to do. I though it was because they only have one wheel between them so I got them another and they still fight so much like three times a night, what can I do?
I just found a pet youtuber in my recommended named kristenleannimal. She has a lot of pets including some rats, and first I was kind of wary because of her cage setup, which was not the best, but then I saw she had a video on bathing her rats, and after watching it, I'm pretty upset. She seems to have a pretty large following (184K subscribers) and think it would be great for you to do a video on her. I don't know about how to properly care for any of the other exotic pets she has, but going off of how she cares for her rats, though there are certainly people out there who have done far worse, I suspect there are issues there as well (so this could even be a collaborative effort with some other pet youtubers) she seems to care about her pets a lot, and so I think it's especially important for someone to directly address this and help her and her followers see how to better care for their rats.
Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of concerning things about the way she cares for the rest of her animals including bathing her hamster in listerine, over handling amphibians etc , a lot of people have tried to bring it up to her on Twitter but she’s very dismissive 🙈
@@Emiology ohhh I didn't recognise it because I watched the cage cleaning video and must have missed the new cage I'm going to watch it now can't wait for more pet updates :)
Emy, I have something to say lol. So I have two rats and they love to sleep in their litter box and poo in their food bowl. I also have hammocks in the cage but their too scared to use them. Have any tips?
I don’t know if anyone will see this but I really need advice on mouse diet, my mouse isn’t looking good and any videos I find are really old, and have led my mouse to be over weight, does anyone have anything they’d recommend like what they need roughly or a good brand?
Oxbow has mouse food I think? Not entirely sure but they are a really great and trustworthy brand that sells very healthy foods for small animals so I’m sure they have mice food.
hi, so recently i added another baby rat to the cage where i had currently two other rats. they were about three months older than she was, and there was quite a size difference (she wasnt an actual baby but she was quite young). i had introduced them over the course of a few days and all was going fine- apart from the occasional squeak. then, last night i woke up to check on them, and saw one of them literally eating the other one. i dont know why they did it, and i was just wondering if i could ask a few questions, and maybe you or someone in the comments could help me/answer. so, first question is, do you have any idea why they would have eaten her, and two, will they become aggressive now that they've cannibalized her and should we get rid of the two remaining rats. i have no idea if anyone will know the answer to these questions, but im hoping someone will. thank you so much :)
Rats will sometimes eat another rat if it’s dead. This is normal behavior, and they do it to protect themselves from predators that might try to follow the smell. For some reason, that rat died overnight, and they were trying to get rid of the body. They won’t become aggressive because of that incident. As for should you get rid of the other two. If everyone else is getting along just fine, then no. If they’re fighting (and not playfully), then you might want to look into reintroductions.
@@emily-xi3em - I don't believe so, but I'm a little unfamiliar with that part of it. If everyone right now is living together harmoniously, then I wouldn't worry about it.
This is a quick ask to everyone out there- has anyone got any experiences putting a PetPlanet Rat & Ferret Cage together? It seems like a great cage, but I just want a few tips on putting the top to the bottom (..it's a bit round peg, square hole) Experiences and tips please. Thanks!
Emi, Ive git two questions: 1st- Ive gotten my mice many different treats, but they still refuse to eat any of them when I give it to them, and when I put them in their cage they dont favor them, but only treat it like food mix, do you know what Im doing wrong or why my mice are being like this? (Ive had my mice for about a month now) 2nd- My mice still have extra wet, smelly, and sometimes yellow or green poo, especially when Im holding them, and they have been on the same food since I got them, is this normal? If not, whats wrong?
She made a post about this earlier but if you didn’t see it she basically said that she doesn’t have time to answer everyone’s questions and that people with questions should ask on forums for help. If your looking for a forum I recommend this one: mouse-forum.proboards.com
Hey Emi! i’m getting rats soon and i’ve been wondering if LED lights are okay for them because i have some and i’m hoping they won’t hurt the rats. If someone knows if they’re ok or not please let me know! :)
I have led lights in my room and nothing has really happened from what I've noticed... I am pretty sure it's ok, however if not please let me know! Btw I have mice not rats
LED lights around the room and area are fine, I wouldn't light the cage like she did especially when the room is dim it can cause eye strain. My albino/one eyed boy has some sensitivity to non natural light. Just keep them directly away from the LEDs and have hides so they have a choice whether the light is bothering them!
Probably, I know that my boys enjoy burrowing in their bedding and at lest one of yours probably will too, unless you live somewhere really hot all the time.

I got my first female mice just a few weeks ago and your videos have helped me so much!
There names are Wispa and Clue
During my time with my first two rats, I put them in a cage that didn’t have enough enrichment for them, and that had too big of bar spacing. It’s taken me a while to forgive myself, but I have to remember that they were still loved, safe, and I am doing MUCH better this time around with my other boys
"suddenly the blue wheel turned green"
It was always green. Haha 💚 love the video
Would you be willing to make a video around caring for your mice each day?
I know I want mice when I move out, but I don’t actually know how demanding their care is or if, realistically, I would be able to give them a happy life
I could help you out if you want!
I like to spend at least 15 mins a day with my boy but when I do I just take him out, make Shure his food is filled and I only have to change his water about once a week
He is on kiln dried pine from Tractor supply, it a giant bag for under 20$ he had a 8 inch weel and some hanging toys
I spent about 30 on initial setup
If you have an atwoods they have great things for mice for super cheap, also Walmart mouse and rat blend in the yellow box is a fave for him
We all make mistakes and know one is perfect and things are always changing or new products are coming out I think back of my first pet rat OMG first off a single rats I didn’t even get him a friend I can’t even remember what I feed him but I remeber his cage was small and had a wire wheel which was also small not to mention I was probably maybe 12yrs old. Everyone starts some where it makes you learn and grow ☺️
I am a kid and I have ratties, the pair has a big enough cage but maybe not enough hides
Rats are the best! I have 9 girls 🐁 I hope one day I can get my nephew some rats right now he has his hamster and she is really friendly
Ive found that hemp bedding really helps with the smell of our rats and mice! Its not really a good burrowing bedding tho, and it’s expensive, sooo yea, prob wont be using it very often, if at all anymore lol, but it was good while it lasted!
hi emi! random question but...can i use aspen shavings for my bedding or dig box?
Should work well for both!
@@tishasobhax oh thank you!

I live in the United States sadly and neutering male mice is on heard of like you are batshit crazy if you call up an exotic vet and ask if they can neuter your male Mouse that's why I'm thinking of rescuing African soft fur rats but the Dilemma is most African soft fur rats in United States are sold as feeder which means there's a high chance of me ending up with a pregnant soft for a rat
Also the standard of mice care in the United States is very questionable some people say three mice can live in a 10 gallon tank other people say three mice should live in a 20 gallon long
Hello, I recently got two female african soft furs that I plan to introduce to my male mouse.
I have a single male in a 20 gallon long
Everyone makes mistakes tbh and with the amount of misinformation out there it's easy to find bad sources, my boy started off in a 10 gal, and had a few upgrades until just over a year later he had an Alaska and so much enrichment so thrived!!
Idk if it was just luck but Clyde never smelled very bad at all so I appreciate that, I'd love to be able to have another boy soon, and maybe risk getting him neutered so he can have some companions.
loving the new cage!!
Hi emi I love your videos I have 4 pics of your rat from your store and a jumper and I have lots of toys from your store plz keep up the good work :)
Early and I lovvve u and ur animals xx
I feel like even if you do a load of research, you're still going to make mistakes, there's a lot of things you learn after getting a pet that you don't learn from watching RUclips videos or reading website. Improving and learning comes with experience, and even if you've been owning that animal for 10 years, you can still make mistakes
I mean everyone makes mistakes. I had hamsters awhile back (2 years ago) and they lived in critter trails. I did more research and moved my current hamster shadow to a bun cage! He is super happy and I feel much better. 💕
I remember watching these videos I 2018! 🐭
whats the best age to get a rat? please help me out i have 2 female rats. they are 11 weeks now but we got them at 6 weeks.
I do have selective for my rats but is that good enough for them?
I don't really use the heater or ac and my house gets to 76 degrees in summer but my house gets 32 degrees in the winter
Hey! Just convinced my parents to let me buy a much bigger and improved rat cage for four rats, they are completely supportive of the idea but don’t rly want to do too much DIY, are there any big cages you can recommenced which already have a deep-ish base/pan?
You can try the criter nation, but the pan isn’t that deep but it’s super nice!
I used to keep mice and although I did more right things than wrong I realise they weren't kept in the best conditions even though I did my research. I miss them but don't miss their smell!
FIG The Adorable!💗
Fig was so cute 😍💖
how do u feel about the flat saucer wheels? are they okay to use for them?
ABOUT TIME!
Are the male mice or male rats more potent would you say?
I loved Fig so much 😭😭
How exactly do you clean your mice's cage? It has so much stuff and seems like it would take hours. Not hate by the way just wondering how.
💚💚💚 Good Morning 1:01 am
Hia I love your videos and i hope you have a wonderful days
I ordered the pet planet rat and ferret cage but it doesn’t fit together!! the door won’t fit into the corner even though i’ve followed the instructions
where do you get your mouse supplies
I’m planning on getting 4 female mice and want to use a bin cage since they’re much cheaper than tanks, how big would it need to be for 4 and what can I do for hammocks and hanging toys?
I’m planning on getting mice too!! I have a 106qt bin, 450sq inches, and while asking around on mouse & rodent related forums/platforms, most people told me that the bin I have is only big enough for three mice. So, for four, you’d probably need upwards of 600sq inches! Don’t quote me on that though.
What was the train toy that your mouse was crawling through I’m interested I’m interested in getting one for mine

Hi 😊 I currently use the back 2 nature pellets in the cage and use science selective food. I didn't realise at all that they weren't ideal until watching this. Can anyone recommend any products/brands that would be better to replace them with? Thank you!
How do you make your cadge less boring? I got my rats very recently and I can definitely tell it’s not got enough in it. Any tips?
I have a video series reacting to peoples rat setups full of tips that might apply to your cage! :)
My mice keep fighting and I don't know what to do. I though it was because they only have one wheel between them so I got them another and they still fight so much like three times a night, what can I do?
They are probably territorial over food x
Hmm, it's possible. I mean sometimes I put food in a bowl, I'll try scatter feeding 24/7

What bedding is good for mice?
Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of concerning things about the way she cares for the rest of her animals including bathing her hamster in listerine, over handling amphibians etc , a lot of people have tried to bring it up to her on Twitter but she’s very dismissive 🙈
wha cage were you in-front of cuz I thought your mouse cage was different btw I love your videos
I got a new mouse cage a few months ago and there’s a tour of it on my channel 🙂
Not entirely sure but they are a really great and trustworthy brand that sells very healthy foods for small animals so I’m sure they have mice food.
love the vlogs
Notice the right ear has a bit missing (poss from fight?)
Yeah it was bitten off by one of his brothers 🥺
Just found this channell, I'm staying
Even though I have a hamster :D
Can you tell me what your current cage for your mice is.? I'm looking to get that one I just dont know the name.
I have a video on it. It’s an IKEA linnmon
I like this video so I know what not to do if I ever get mice! Also I love your mice videos and you should make more snail videos.
Hiii I love your videos❤️ I hope your doing better😊
I have no idea why I'm watching this I'm really scared of mice and rats too😭🤚
Hi Emi!! I’m a new subscriber and I am getting a mouse soon and was wondering do you have any tips on owning them :) ilysm
hi, so recently i added another baby rat to the cage where i had currently two other rats. they were about three months older than she was, and there was quite a size difference (she wasnt an actual baby but she was quite young). i had introduced them over the course of a few days and all was going fine- apart from the occasional squeak. then, last night i woke up to check on them, and saw one of them literally eating the other one. i dont know why they did it, and i was just wondering if i could ask a few questions, and maybe you or someone in the comments could help me/answer. so, first question is, do you have any idea why they would have eaten her, and two, will they become aggressive now that they've cannibalized her and should we get rid of the two remaining rats. i have no idea if anyone will know the answer to these questions, but im hoping someone will. thank you so much :)
@@MyPerfectMischief thank you :))
but would they still not be aggressive if they actually killed the rat and it didnt die beforehand?
@@emily-xi3em - I don't believe so, but I'm a little unfamiliar with that part of it. If everyone right now is living together harmoniously, then I wouldn't worry about it.
@@MyPerfectMischief ok thank you
wow you've grown so much😆
This is a quick ask to everyone out there- has anyone got any experiences putting a PetPlanet Rat & Ferret Cage together?
It seems like a great cage, but I just want a few tips on putting the top to the bottom (..it's a bit round peg, square hole)
Experiences and tips please.

I am going to get 2 rats is that ok or should I get 3
Two rats are fine, but if you want to be better than just fine, get three or more.
Three is more ideal than two, but two is okay if you can’t get three. Having only one is not acceptable, though. (I know you weren’t asking about one)
If this is your first time I’d suggest two just Bc three are a lot more work than two, however if you’ve dealt with rats before three is ideal
Hey Emi! i’m getting rats soon and i’ve been wondering if LED lights are okay for them because i have some and i’m hoping they won’t hurt the rats. If someone knows if they’re ok or not please let me know! :)
I was wondering the same thing 🤔
I have led lights in my room and nothing has really happened from what I've noticed... I am pretty sure it's ok, however if not please let me know!
Btw I have mice not rats
LED lights around the room and area are fine, I wouldn't light the cage like she did especially when the room is dim it can cause eye strain. My albino/one eyed boy has some sensitivity to non natural light. Just keep them directly away from the LEDs and have hides so they have a choice whether the light is bothering them!

I know this video is about mice but should i have bedding on the bottom of my rat cage for 5 female rats
Probably, I know that my boys enjoy burrowing in their bedding and at lest one of yours probably will too, unless you live somewhere really hot all the time.
@@rutabegagrrl9657 No it's not really hot all the time but how do i make it so i can put bedding in the cage when it's just bars on the wall
