    I hope you're all enjoying the video! Here is where you can get a 'playpen' like mine. Playpen: amzn.to/2ZQTb75
    Please note that for smaller mice / dwarf hamsters you might have to tape over the slight holes at the bottom of the playpens.

    I am about to take home a baby mouse that is from a surprise litter we had at the pet store I work at, so I am really excited you posted this video so I can get some more information on mice. Also in honor of your first mouse Fig, his middle name will be Fig his first name is Finn so his full name will be Finn Fig. Lol

    I have that same 'playpen', I use it for my hamster. XD Fun story: I had eight mice (they're currently living with a foster due to my living situation falling apart) and there was one mouse in particular who did not like being picked up, and figured out that if she started nipping my fingertips, I'd put her down right quick. So then every time I went to pick her up and hold her, after about a minute she'd start nipping at my fingers, starting out light and then progressively nipping harder until I finally put her down. Definitely my bossiest mouse!

    I have bought 2 male mice four days ago. I found out you shouldn't house 2 males. The one does pick on my other one but no blood has been drawn. They do sleep together but I watch them carefully. We bought another cage so they could stay away from each other of they need to. They are silky's and from the same litter. Will they always fight or will they settle down eventually? Since we added the other cage the picked on mouse is getting more curious and friendly. What should I do? When I put my hand in the more confident mouse will run over, sniff at me and nibble on my fingers. It doesn't hurt at all but I take my hand away slowly. Should I stop hand feeding them or leave my hand in?

    • @purpleunicorn9351
      @purpleunicorn9351 4 года назад +1

      people will obviously have different opinions, especially on this topic so here's mine. Some people do house bonded brothers together and it is all fine, but one they they could just turn against each other and fight until death. What I would do is house them separately especially since you already have another cage just to be safe. if you 100% trust them and think they will get along and not fight. if you do think they won't fight it would be nice for them to have some company but again, it up to you :)

    • @Emiology
      @Emiology  6 месяцев назад

      Mice are social animals, but unfortunately male mice 90% of the time will fight and kill other intact males. When its possible neutering them to live with other mice can be really good for them, but not all vets will do it. Stress would not be my first conclusion I'd jump to, I'd be wanting the vet to test / treat for parasites first, things like Mites is common on their shoulder and back area, maybe even something like staph or ringworm.

    Can mice be mentally unhealthy? I just adopted two female mice and one of them doesn’t really act the way a normal mouse would, she shakes a lot and runs away whenever anyone gets close to the cage. At first I thought it was because she wasn’t used to me, but the other mouse has warmed up to me already but the other one still seems very afraid of everything. She always shakes and walks weirdly. I think it was because I got her from a pet store and the owners probably treated the mice badly which caused her to be so afraid all the time. I think she has a mental problem, but I don’t know if mice can even get mental problems, and it could be a physical problem that makes her shake?

    I had rats from the pet store and both girls were aggressive with head tilts within months and died of pituitary tumours. They were sisters. The rats and mice often come from pet farms or mills, never healthy and I honestly wait for breeders that aim for the health of the ratties now even if they are some distance away.

      My rats ripped my cats face off... they got a new home right after.. it wasn't there fault.

    I always buy from pet shops and they are always ok but I still agree with you but my pet shop actually tells you how they are and you can ask about their health with a free vet check

    Improperly picking up a mouse or rat by their tail can result in physical trauma as well as the stress. It’s a defense mechanism called degloving, and it’s kind of horrifying.

    I feel so bad for the mice in the pet store near us now. Before I didn’t realize how bad it was, but the pet store (I think it’s PetCo) keeps over 20 mice of different genders (I’m not sure if there’s actually different genders mixed as my memory isn’t clear clear) all together in a glass container. Now while this container is aired out enough and has barely enough space for perhaps a group of females or a male, it doesn’t have enough room for the number they keep in there AT ALL. It’s sad seeing them laying on top of each other and only having one wheel and two hides to share. I wish there was a way to help :c

    Rat breeders aren't too common. Pet stores is the only place I can get my rats from. (And mice)
