    What's your favorite cage? Let me know!

    That is quality info, about the half cage and being able to slide right onto the gimbal. You confirmed my suspicion this thing was somehow gonna be better for gimbal use

    Awesome video! Thanks for the breakdown. I'm going with the smallrig half cage for my a7iv 🙌

    Very good content!
    I'm really happy to find a RUclipsr that really goes in depth in the practical everyday usage 👌
    Indeed nobody talks about this mounting side problem with the DJI gimbals...
    My way to go around is to a quick release system, but all of them have advantages and inconveniences...
    I started with the Manfrotto RC2 on my Weebill-s and tripod.
    It was good for a time but when I started using Peak Design capture clips I had to get the dual PD/Manfrotto plates, which bring some limitations (only 2 sides usable on each system)
    Then this summer I switched to PGYTECH quick release, which is very nice, and include the compatibility of my Osmo Action too, but I still love to use the Lens Holder by Peak Design and this fits only into the capture clip... So I have now on my backpack a Peak Design capture clip on the removable belt (Lowepro 450 AW II) AND the Bettle from PGYTECH, which means my technical belt cannot hold my camera and my backpack strap cannot hold my lenses...
    A little clunky :/
    Now I'm considering the Falcam system which has many advantages, integrating their F38 plate in a very slick cage (and a secondary one in portrait too oO), having the modularity of the f22 mount for lights or monitor etc, but, I would still have to keep the capture clip for the lens holder 🤔
    I'm a solo nomadic (backpacker) filmmaker, one man crew and I feel all those brands have cool ideas but none is ticking all boxes for me :/
    And switches are getting expensive in the end!
    I just need efficiency and modularity to cover all my needs...
    I would try everything to never have to screw anything again xD

    Why there is no smallrig black mamba half cage for sony?! 😭 I had Eos R5 and black mamba was perfect for everything. Cold shoe in top corner is angled, that way you can use microphone with gimbal.

    What tripod mount do you use? Since you mentioned being able to switch easily between the RS2 and tripod.

      All of my photo tripods have arca Swiss mounts.

    I only have an A7IV but it seems to me the same cages fit the A7siii, from what I have seen and heard. But as far as photography goes, I wouldn't want just a baseplate, I'd want an L Grip since I'd be shooting as many verticals as horizontals.

    • @MattYamamoto100
      @MattYamamoto100  2 года назад +1

      I totally hear ya. Unfortunately, the only good solution I've found for that is a cage with an arca adapter plate bolted to the side...similar to what I did with the a7c (I have a video for that). If you just use an L-bracket...it will sometimes block the screen from flipping out, which is a pain. Lately, I've just been using the tripod head to go into vertical shooting

    It would be nice to compare the Tilta full cage and the new Falcam cage and maybe the 8sinn and the kondorblue.

    • @MattYamamoto100
      @MattYamamoto100  Год назад

      Yeah, I would interested in that as well. That being said, I've been so happy with my Smallrig half cage setup. I can literally go from photo, to gimbal, to fully rigged out cinema rig without having to switch cages or add extra adapters. It's crazy how convenient and fast it is. But you never know...i'm always tinkering. lol

      I use the Atomos Ninja V as my main. I have a few of the cheaper ones like Feelworld and they work just fine as well, but none of the bells and whistles

  • @kkonst
    @kkonst Год назад +1

    Hey Matt, thanks for the comparison! Really helps. I have one question though. Is there a holder for usb-c cable for A7iv (for smallrig full cage), like the one they have for HDMI cable?

    • @MattYamamoto100
      @MattYamamoto100  Год назад +1

      They do make several different types of cable holders. maybe something like the MD2418 would work for that

    • @kkonst
      @kkonst Год назад

      @@MattYamamoto100 yeah, it might work, in a way. Although for tethered shoot I'd much rather have something more secure and much closer to the usb port itself and in the case of this particular camera and this particular cage there doesn't seem to be an obvious solution.

    • @MattYamamoto100
      @MattYamamoto100  Год назад

      @@kkonst i'm pretty sure you can bolt the 2418 right to the side of the cage next to the usb port...

    • @MattYamamoto100
      @MattYamamoto100  2 года назад

      Hey! Sorry, I sold my A7iii a while ago, so I am unable to test....and Smallrig does not list the A7iii as being compatible with this cage.
