I RECORDED A MORE IN DEPTH VIDEO THAT'S KIND OF A PART 2 WHERE I TALK ABOUT THE CONFERENCE OVER ON THE ALVEUS SANCTUARY CHANNEL! SORRY FOR SHOUTING BUT I THINK YOU WILL ENJOY THE VIDEO SO GO GO GO💚: ruclips.net/video/xVcR9hn-Dtk/видео.html
The first video with a bunch of bugs when I haven't felt the ick from looking at any of them and haven't started jumping around trying to get the imaginary multi-legged friends off me, thank you Maya for changing my world-of-bugs-view, loveki
@@orangutan9492 I don't have a lot of memories but I don't really have bad memories with bugs, it's purely the insane amount of nightmares I've had and many of them included bugs. Since I was 4 I had nightmares and so many of them were about bugs crawling under my skin... Now as I'm learning more about bugs it takes away a lot of fears. I used to be afraid of literally every bug, but I'm slowly learning and growing
Genuinely, discovering Maya and Alveus has completely changed how i look at bugs and by association the rest of the world, if your goal was conservation youre already doing an awesome job 💪 just my two cents :)
I actually love voiceover Maya. Her not being able to remember stuff and watching the video and recording the voice over live is hilarious and I enjoy very much. Keep them coming! …also more Winnie plz. K thanks
Honestly, bugs scare me so bad but earlier I was sitting outside on a picnic blanket and an ant crawled on and i was like "pal, can you go?" and it was like "sure, my bad" and just left. i was so chill about it, so im just really proud of myself. shoutout to personal growth 🎉
One of my favorite things about academic conferences is the insane and chaotic range of outfits worn by attendees and presenters. It'll go high end business professional, well-tailored jackets, etc. and all the way down to cargo shorts and wrinkled graphic t-shirts of somewhat related imagery. also, relatable to just chilling at the hotel for a couple hours. Even as an extrovert, conferences are exhausting!
Maya has single-handedly gotten me to go from having a mildly negative/lukewarm opinion of bugs to having a high amount of respect and admiration for them. This is huge considering I was actually phobic of insects and arachnids as a child. Thank you, Maya!!!
I am unfortunately super duper scared of bugs!! Like near phobia level 😭 maya has done a lot to make me just a little more comfortable with them and even if I cry in a room with a big bug I love hearing stories about them. They are absolutely fascinating creatures and I appreciate all they do! Also Allison is delightful
Really enjoyed this video, Maya - I need to learn how to shoot more footage like this on trips. And thanks so much for the mention! Was awesome to meet you at the conference, and hopefully I'll see you again next year!
god, bugs are so cool, i love how they are able to work together, for example; ants they generally have to work together to live, they only are able to live if they work together and to keep other ants alive, ALL THE OTHER INSECTS ARE LOVELY TOO!!!! we all have a reason to hate or love bugs, most of the time people hate them but sometimes you meat people that love bugs too
Would highly recommend the IECC, it is a fantastic conference to attend, and you get to see some really cool wildlife (even if you just end up staying at the hotel). The people there are super welcoming and very nerd friendly too! :)
Now I understand the meaning of “find something you love for work so you will never have to work another day in your life”. Congrats on your success and many thanks for educating and entertaining us simultaneously. You are a genius. Insect taxonomy is so tough to pronounce for me but things just roll of your tongue effortlessly. Sorta jealous of your life
Omg! I was born in Tucson and grew up there! The sonoran desert museum is one of my favorite places in the south west! It's really so cool to have an entire museum about the area plopped right there. I hate the heat so much I moved. But man do I miss all the cool wildlife that make that place home. My mom used to work for the Tucson wildlife center so I got to get up close and personel with all kinds of critters, mostly raptors and javillinas. I got to help do things like hold them for xrays and such. Glad you seemed to have a good time!
Ladybugs, butterflies, and rolypolies are the three bugs that I'm not scared of. HOWEVER! I can now be chill around moths and flies. AND! For my 21st birthday! i went to the Butterfly Pavillion and held the tarantula. very proud of myself, I couldn't hold her when I was 16 but 5 years later I worked so hard and I DID IT and it was cool. bugs are good. they may scare me but they are SO GOOD and SO IMPORTANT and SO COOL.
My cats really enjoyed watching this. Literally stared at the tv non stop blocking me from being able to see at all. But they were good for at least 20 minutes.
Really well done, I liked this video. Was never a bug person, but my daughter has swayed my attention. We will go on bug hunts frequently. She is a wealth of knowledge, I am constantly taking pictures of ones I find and sending them to her for information... I don't even need Google.
The wolf doggo inside enclosure feels like the perfect place for an art streamer collab to paint murals on the walls :DD (I commented this on a Maya daily vid but ppl said I should comment here too as it’s more likely to be seen)
finally my home and its beauty gets the exposure it truly deserves! the Javelina is absolutely the cutest thing to ever come out of AZ. hope you had fun and will hopefully return to AZ sometime to see more! (also its Saguaro, suh-wah-row).
For me the outfit at 10:28 is a solid 10/10 would wear myself and feel fun and fresh. I liked all the fits in this video honestly but that one might be my fav. Allison and her energy and enthusiasm is amazing! I'm also excited to see what kind of things you learned at the conference that you're going to implement at Alveus.
Its so awesome seeing you do stuff like this, you can tell you're so passionate about it and you always sound so much happier when you're doing stuff like this :)
Dude it's actually insane how much less afraid of bugs I am since watching Maya & Alveus. Coming from someone who got bit by some kind of venomous spider and ended up in the ER because I couldn't feel the right side of my torso. Never thought I'd get here.
Something nice about a bug: I LOVE the big orange wasps in my backyard! They're so nice and they love getting water from our bird bath and they even wait for us to refill it with fresh water and I have a whoke new appreciation for wasps since getting to know these lil waspspsps!!!
Maya and allison have changed my view on bugs SO MUCH I LOVE THEM NOW I HAVE ALiKE A LIST OF A BUNCH OF BUGS I WANNA LEARN ABOUT I JUST NEED TIME RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BUGS i love bugs
I love bugs! And plants! SO many cool desert species of both in this video!! I love antlions in particular, I used to watch the nymphs build their little sand pits as a kid, and I only recently found out what they looked like as adults! The sarlacc in Star Wars was actually inspired by the nymph antlion!
because of this channel and others like it (Clint's reptiles) I've been overcoming my arachnophobia! I successfully evicted an orb spider from my room without harming it. And I've had a jumping spider hang out on my ceiling for a couple weeks without issues. I considered catching it and putting it in a terrarium to get more used to them, but then figured it'd be rude to put it in a smaller enclosure after it's had my entire room to explore.
Truly think everyone should have the experience to attend a bug night / black light bug event. I went to my first one last year and it was so cool! I’m an algae/lake girl but a friend worked in land restoration and getting to attend one of these events was soooo fun and made getting bug handling experience and ID training such cool event.
Alison seems like a blast to hang out with. Humor and silliness and smarts for days. And 100% on the tarantula! The smithi looks Nothing like the native Aphonopelma Chalcodes(Arizona Blonde). I can't say I understand the Aphonopelma Chalcodes being Allison's fave, but I'm glad to see the blonde getting some love. ❤

And if you're ever near Scottsdale, definitely drop by Butterfly Wonderland! :))) Love your tiny mic interviews and so happy you (survived) got to experience Arizona! 🤓💖
Hey, local Tucsonan here! Even though I live here, I live in the city and don't often get to see the wildlife, so I loved watching the footage you got of all the little creatures. I'm glad you got to have the whole desert experience! Proud of you for braving the heat 😅

I have been converted by both you and Travis from a guy who would freak tf out if I saw a bug to someone who seeks out bugs and spiders outside to pick up and look at. I'm now a proud member of the group of people who cringe when someone calls any bug ugly or disgusting.
OK I grew up in the Sonoran desert and yet I've learned so much from your videos from this conference. The biodiversity among bugs is just stunning and beautiful, thank you for sharing them! Also "green tree" is just about as valid as its common name of "palo verde." And yeah, the Sonoran desert really doesnt have many harmless lifeforms, plant or animal. Such is life. All fit checks 10/10, you are as cute as a bug and a bug is as cute as a you.

All fit checks 10/10, you are as cute as a bug and a bug is as cute as a you.
